Can someone please explain how a split stay with multiple magic bands works? We are going the first week of April and will be splitting our stay. We received two boxes and customized two sets of magic band, with directions for adding FP+ to both of them.

Now, without being flamed, please explain how I would put FP+ on both bands. Does that really happen or would they only read one set of FP+ from either band?

This new system is very confusing. A CM told me that my ticket would be linked to both bands.

So what will work on each band? Do I have to switch bands during our stay for anything other than the room?

You can use either set of bands for the entire trip.

But, you won't be able to "put FP+ selections" on separate bands.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just to keep things as clear as possible-

There is no reservation info, or ticket info, or credit card info,
or FP+ info "put onto" a MagicBand.

The MagicBands just contain a unique serial number that is used
to access the information that is stored in your MyDisneyExperience computer file.

So, even if you were to lose a MagicBand, the info stays locked in your file.
Disney can just set up a new band (different serial number)
to access the info in your MDE file.

The MagicBand works like the combination to a locked safe, a key to a locked door.

The MB, itself, is not the file of info or the container of the info.
The MB just unlocks the file of info to be read, when needed.

So, having multiple bands cannot get you "extra" FP+ since the
FP+ is actually registered not "on" the MB, but in your MDE account.

Either set (or both sets) of MB that you have will access the same account information
for the entire trip.

You don't need to "switch" MB when you change resorts or rooms.

Thank you ROBO. Great answer very informative. I had the same question..

We also have a split stay. Could we just order one set of bands and use that for the whole trip? Seems silly to have to waste two sets.

Disney sets the rules.

The rule (at this time) is that guests WILL receive a new set of MB for each separate resort reservation, even if it during the same trip.

That's how they've decided they want to do it.
Will it change and, if so, when... nobody knows.

It will be interesting to see what happens with us. My husband booked a stay at Pop for 1/20-26. He apparently forgot that I am now an Authorized Disney Vacation Planner 'cause I never mention it (sarcasm). So, I cancelled his reservation and re-booked it.

In the time between the first booking and second, we selected our bands and they came in the mail. Since then, we received an email that since we booked so late (the new booking) our generic grey bands will be waiting for us at the resort.

It gets even better, we plan on going down two days early and staying at CSR since Pop is sold out this weekend. We will have a generic set of grey bands waiting for us at CSR.

The big questions will be - did my linking our second reservation get us on ME on the colored bands? Probably not since we will be two days early for that reservation.

can't link our CRS reservations yet because we have not made it and won't until we are boarding the plane (we fly standby and don't want to pay for a room and then not make it)

Guesses anyone?

Nothing regarding your trip is "ON" the bands.

The MB just unlocks the file of info to be read, when needed.

So, since anything that you change will be part of your MDE files, any bands
that are programmed to access your MDE files will be able to be used.

3 sets of bands "connected" to the same files (including tickets) will all
access the same info.

NOTHING about your trip is "ON" the bands.

I understand that. But the code on the band is linked to your reservation. I will be traveling on bands which were issued to a reservation which has since been cancelled.

I have subsequently linked the bands to a reservation which will start two days after my arrival.

My reservation which starts Sat has not been made yet.

I know I can get on ME by going to the counter. The question is, will my colored bands get linked to the reservation made hours before my arrival.

The code on your band is linked to your MDE profile and the database containing all of your information. It is not linked to a specific reservation. You can bring your colored set and when you check in at each hotel they'll set it up for you.

That's what I was thinking. The colored magic bands won't be of any use until I get to the hotel. I will be incredibly impressed if the agent taking my reservation on Sat managed to link it to my MDE and therefore my bands.

I will try the bands at the ME to see what happens but plan on going to the counter for a paper boarding pass.

And, what a waste of money. Disney will give us 12 bands for a 7 day trip. I wonder if we just don't accept them at the hotel they will reuse them.

I guess I misunderstood. I thought the magic bands were optional. I think my mom told me they weren't ordering them but I guess they'll just end up with the non-customized versions. I have only gotten one email about the bands so I'll have to check and see if there are two sets to customize in our MDE account.
