We are planning a trip for April/May of 2017. My husbands company does a seniority based vaction picking thing, which happens in October. That being said we wont know which week we are able to get until late October. We are planning to stay at desert inn and suites and their rates are super low if you book like now. Usually by octoerb they go up at 20 or so a night. Does anyone know if booking a few weeks in may and april 2017 now and then cancelling which ever ones we dont need come October when we know for sure which week we get for vacation would be a problem? Does anyone do this, if so what has been your experience.

I would just check the cancellation policy on their website. I am currently holding 3 (!) reservations at various area hotels while I figure out what I am doing in August. 2 are holds only; reserved without any cash down and 1 I had to put $$ down but will receive a full refund if I cancel 5 days prior.

As I began planning my trip, I had up to different reservations through Hotels.com. But they all had free cancellation and pay when you get there options. Once we decided to fly and locked in our days , I cancelled all the reservations and made the last reservation at the LAX Motel 6 for the night before we leave.

Thanks guys, i will call and double check their cancellations policies. I just hate waiting til october to book and prices go up! I would rather get the best rate possible even if it means booking 3 different weeks and cancelling two of them!

As long as it's free cancellation (usually up to a couple days before checkin) there should be no problem at all. I have done it with many different "possible" trips I was planning, sometimes cancelling just a few days before. If you are talking about cancelling in October for the next May, I don't see any issue at all if there is a "free" cancellation policy for your booking. If you are worried about having to call in and book multiple trips on the phone at once, I doubt they'll really care either this far out, but it can probably be done cheaper and more anonymously through their website or sites like hotels.com, cheaptickets.com, etc... You just click cancel and done.

Um, I have reservations at 4 different hotels for 3 different weeks in November.... I have been using Booking.com
