In reading over many of the questions and responses on the Disboard, it's apparent that DVC owners are frequent visitors to DVC and many use DVC as their "getaway from the madness." I also see that some DVC's that visit frequently within the same year also purchase AP's, but what about those of you out there who visit once a year or possibly twice a year but do not feel that the AP is worth the cost...are you buying 10 day no-exp passes instead ?

Also, does no-expiration really mean no-expiration, so did Disney throw in a limitation on the time frame of using it. Except for the AP, do DVC'rs get any other sort of discount on tickets ?

Traditionally Disney has had no-expiration tickets and they really do honor old time tickets! Now that they are the Magic Your Way sort, if you pay for "non expiration" that's what you get.

My extended family purchased the 10 day, hoppers, non-expiration because they don't go as often was we do, and the price per day is quite reasonable.

No, there are no other discounts than the AP or PAP for DVC members.

For us, we did buy the AP and we expect to renew them for next year as well. We have so few points left in '07's UY, we may just buy the no expiration after that. Last year and this one, we have so many trips planned that the Disney Dining Experience card has been a great savings to us as well. Because we don't live in Florida, we have to have the AP to buy the DDE card.

Bobbi :)

PS. We still have 3 water park visits left on old park hopper plus tickets and we've used them with a year + between visits.

- we buy the park hopper no expire tix 'cause we will not benefit from the annual pass cost with only one visit a year; it really is a no expire ticket as long as you plan to use it in the way it was purchased; i believe there are costs involved if you plan to upgrade the ticket - but a more knowledgeable source can help ya out with that one.

- there are no disney discounts for ticket purchases at this time - used to be, but not now; many purchase thru info shared from allearsnet.com or mousesavers.com.

We buy the nonexpire park hoppers too. Actually, not that we at DVC members, we just enjoy going to WDW and relaxing at the resort, visiting DTD, trying some non-park restaurants, boating, etc. so we don't go to the parks every day. We also try to fit in a couple days to VB when we can. So we only visit the parks 1-2 days of our trips. That makes the 10 day tickets the best option for us.

It really depends on what you plan to do, and how often you plan to go.

We got the 10 day park hopper no expire option in Jan 2005. We used it again Jan 2006 and will use the remaining days Jan 2007. This works perfectly for us as we do one trip per year generally 10-12 days and we dont overload on the parks. One ticket for three years make sense in our books :)

We bought 10 day non expiring tickets as well. We haven't gone "home" yet, but now when we do, we have the accomodations and the passes taken care of. 10 day was best for us as we will only go once a year or less, so we will get 3 or 4 trips out of it.

Should we buy in, AP's might not be worth it for us either. The 10 day with no expiration might be a good way to go.

I looked at mousesavers, and I see that an adult Premium AP is $574.06. This is probably less for DVC members though.

It looks like a 10 day PH, no expiration, with 6 water park visits would go like this????

$ 223.65 - base 10 day one park admission
$ 143.78 - no expiration option
$ 95.85 - hopper option and 6 water park, DQ, etc. admissions

$ 463.28 - TOTAL

Anyone know if DVC members get a price reduction for hoppers?

Unfortunately, no DVC discount for hoppers.

So for the 10 day premium, no expiration tix, with 6 plusses, it comes to the $463.30 (according to www.AllEarsNet.com) as you mention. With DVC member discount, Premium APs come to $440.91 with unlimited plusses. So if you're doing all that visiting in a 1 yr period, the PAPs are a good choice, otherwise, stick with the no expirations.

We did not do any of the waterparks or DQ this time, so we stuck with the regular DVC APs at $335.48 per adult. If we decide to do the waterparks on either of our next two trips in the next 12 months, we'll upgrade.
For DVC members, the breakeven for the APs is 7 days over two trips in one yr (IMO), while the PAPs' breakeven might be as high as 9 days.

I've been able to avoid the water parks so far, but my boys are not 10 and 12, and they are on to it big time. I'm running out of excuses for us not to go to TL and BB. LOL.

I think that if someone goes to WDW...say...in April of 2006, and then plans to go again in Feb of 2007, then an AP is probably the best way to go.

But if you go once a year, especially if you don't go to the parks every day on vacation, then the PHP is the way to go.

We only buy what used to be called the 10 day PHP with no expiration. My family enjoys Disney, but not 2-3 times a year!!! We were just down for New Years, and may not be back for almost 2 years, we are probably heading to Vero this August, along with other vacations planned, (2 weeks in St. Maarten and a 5 night cruise to Bermuda), so we are not Disney crazed like some are, so the 10 days work perfect!! I have pluses left from older tickets, and now maybe 5 days left on PHP purchased a year ago, which were used for Feb 2005 and Dec 2005!

We purchased the 10 day No Exp also.

Previously I had the AP, but felt more pressure to get my money's worth by going to the park more often. My Ds's and Dh prefer the waterparks and DQ so our park days were few and far between.

So when my AP expired, I purchased the 10 day MYW for us instead. We have used a day just to go to Epcot and eat and I didnt freak out because I know we will still get our money's worth out of the 10 day pass.

Our passes will most likely last us 4 years and I dont have to plan our vacations around the AP like we have done in the past. We also let our US/IOA AP's expire last year too. We really enjoy being DVC members and enjoying our family time and resort time. The parks are just icing on our cake :love:

We purchase AP's for DH and myself since we usually visit twice a year (once by ourselves and once with our kids and grandson) and we get the DVC discount. But, we don't purchase the premium AP, just the regular. I've got about 20 pluses still left on old tickets (the Ticketmania days when they used to give extra pluses a few times a year). However, our kids get the 10 day non expiring hopper with no plusses and that gets them two visits (they only go once a year). I think the price works out to about $32.00 per day (that may be what the price was before the most current price increase...not sure).
So far this has worked for us.

We usually do one larger trip a year and don't do the water parks. When I looked at the numbers as far as just going to the parks(hoppers), not including water parks or the other possible benefits of having an AP, these are the conclusions...

If you are going more then once in a year that total 8 or more park days go for the AP (or if there are other benefits that would make this more attactive). If you have less then 8 park days get the MYW 10 day non-exp. hopper.

If you are going once for the year with 7 or more park days then go with the 7 or 10 day MYW EXPIRING Hopper.

If you are going once for the year 6 or less park days then go with the MYW 10 day NON -Expiring Hopper. However if your at 6 park days you might want to pay slightly more for the convience of access to the parks for up to 10 days and get the Expiring Hopper.

One caveat, typically the tickets only cover the parks open when you bought them. So if Disney opens a 5th park, while your no-expiration ticket would be good at the 4 parks that exist today, you'd need to buy one for the new park. This was the case with MGM and Animal Kingdom, for example.

We only go once a year, but we stagger out trips so that we get two trips out of one AP. For example, last year we went in July and bought new AP's. This year, we'll go before they expire in July and use the same AP. We won't renew it after it expires, we will just buy new ones the following summer and repeat the process. With the DVC discount, it's like getting premium parkhopper passes with water parks for the price of about a 5 day base ticket (about $200 each year, $400 total).

We also buy the AP's because we spend about 30 days a year in Florida, and I like to be able to come and go to the park whenever I want. If I want to just walk over to catch some lunch, get a little exercise, and then walk back, I can do that. And our renewal rate this year was a terrific $297, instead of the usual $315. We also love the AP rates on the regular resorts and DVC's, too. We got a two bedroom for $255 per night with maid service, so we used it to have maid service every 3-4 days(the hot tub needed cleaning by then) :lmao: so for us it's worth the cost to get an AP, even without the discount, but the discount is icing on the cake. :love:

We are in the process of becoming DVC owners so we bought 1 annual pass for the room discounts and I could get 3 rooms and then we would take another trip for the 2 of us. I purchased a 10 day no expriation. I didn't even get the hopper because I noticed that in the last 5 years we had quit hopping so why pay for it. The discounts with the annual pass are numerous and they are for numerous people even if you only have 1 pass. The passholder has to be with the party to get the discounts.

We bought 10-day non-expire (usually with parkhopping). We don't always go to the parks on our WDW trips. Some trips we golf and do day trips.

No expiration really does mean no expiration.

We've got ap's. We purchased them in Oct 05 and we did a food and wine trip for the last week in October last year. We are going for the week before Easter and possibly a week in July, plus another food and wine visit in October 06, the week before our ap's expire. That will give us about 28 'possible' park days from the ap. The reality will be closer to 15-20 days where we actually go into a park. Our ap's were a little over $300, so our park days cost us about 15 to 20 dollars a shot, which I think is very reasonable. In 2007, our plans do not include Disney until October, so we will not get another ap until then, and we will try to do a late week, and stagger the 2008 Oct vacation earlier to use the same ap. We do Disney at least once a year, with October being the month we like to visit, so ap's work for us, even if we don't do other trips as we are doing this year. Now, if only I could afford to 'stockpile' the ap vouchers at todays prices........
