Multi-generational Trip - One room at Deluxe or two Moderate?

I'd recommend going through a points broker and staying Deluxe. You would spend about the same amount. We did this for our upcoming trip, and are definitely spending less for a two bedroom dvc points rental. Or, you may want to consider purchasing one annual pass for some great deals at a deluxe. You should crunch the numbers. I looked at it a number of ways, and since we are adding a night onto our dvc rental with a reservation from Disney directly, I can tell you that we will be spending that night at AKL for $226. The Standard Room Rate for the same room/same night is $349. The Standard Room Rate for the same night at POR is $224. (With Annual Pass is $168 a night.). Last, if you consider renting points, don't forget that you will not be paying tax, which would be 12.5% at POR. That saved us some cash for our main stay (renting points for 7 nights.). Also, with your wanting to same your mother some walking, look carefully at the resorts. Some have the rooms directly tied to the main lobbies (like AKL) while others, like the Poly (which I especially love) does not. That matters to some. If you rent points, use a reputable broker. (One concern for renting points is that if you rent, you cannot change your reservation - just fyi.)

You know your family. We will often travel with my DD and her family, and we share a deluxe room. We are used to traveling together and know how to manage space. With my son and his wife? We could not, so two moderate rooms would be a must.

If you have never traveled together, don't practice on a Disney vacation.

If renting points is an option for you I would try to get a one or two bedroom villa or even two studios. You just need something where a door can be closed between you. You need space. The price of the rented studios may be the equivalent of two rooms at Riverside.

Some people don't mind cramming in a room because they're barely in it, but I've done this before with girlfriends and by the end of the week we weren't even speaking.

You really don't know who someone is until you live with them, lend them money or go on a vacation together.

If you like your parents, don't do it. :rolleyes1

I forgot to say that I meant 2 bedrooms at a deluxe through renting points. Or two bedrooms with an Annual Pass Discount. I agree, don't "practice on a Disney vacation."

I would never book one room for four adults and a teen, too close for comfort and I don't care how much time you spend in the room. That's too many people sharing one bathroom, and its your parents anniversary. Renting points is an option, as another poster mentioned, but most have a no cancellation policy and you would more than likely need to pay for the trip in full (or most), at booking. This is great for a lot of people, but some people need the flexibility of booking a room as opposed to renting.

Not to mention that renting points is not always as easy an option as the posts make it seem.

I agree with all those who recommended staying at French Quarter. If you're staying in the bayou, I recommend requesting a ground floor room, as this section does not have elevators.
French Quarter doesn't have a bayou section. That's Riverside.
