Hi guys!

We've been desperately trying to research flight options, and I think I've come up with an option. It will probably be a combination of Virgin/Delta flights. I just wondered if anyone had done it, or similar, before? I would have preferred to have done Quantas, as the return flights are better (via FW with 3hr layover), but they were almost $1000 more expensive!

So now, we're flying SYD-LAX (arriving in the morning LAX time). We're staying at Paradise Pier for 2nights on DVC points. We're not going to do this every year, but this year marks 25yrs since we lasted visited!

Then we're on the early morning flight LAX to MCO, getting in at 5pm-ish. We're staying SSR, then 4-night cruise, then SSR again. Then, flights back are via LAX (so MCO - LAX - SYD) My only concern is that the plane arrives in LAX for 9.15pm and the SYD leg leaves at 10.40pm!

When I spoke to the Virgin lady, I did ask if that was enough time, and she said yes. I assume that since the airline offers it, they can fulfill it! It occurred to me this morning that, of course, on the way back there is no need to worry about immigration/customs/quarantine or anything like that, so it's literally jumping planes, but I'm concerned about whether or not we might have to collect baggage and re-check-in.

So, if anyone has done this, I would really like to know how it went! Thanks

I've not done it with Virgin, but every time I've flown Orlando-Sydney, I've been able to check the luggage through all the way and not had to do anything with it in SFO or LAX, except one trip where I had 12hr 15min break between flights in San Fran - once you are over 12hrs, they aren't allowed to check your baggage through all the way. That doesn't apply to you, so there should be no-problems.
Just make sure when you check the luggage in, it does say SYD, and get them to do it if it doesn't.

Thanks for that cola. The last time we did a transfer flight, we were doing LGW - MIA - MCO and we have to collect our luggage in Miami and re-check it (I guess because we had to clear immigration, customs and quarantine there). There was a two-hour window and because we were special assistance, we were waiting for the wheelchair and last off the plane. I had to collect all the suitcases with my sister while we abandoned mum in the wheelchair with the fast pass airport staff! lol It was not fun. However, on the way back we didn't have to bother about the luggage, it was checked through to London. So, was hopeful this would be the case on the way home this time! :D
