*~* Muggles, Welcome to the Burrow! *~*

I'll help you there if I can Coco! Would me buying the book and shipping it to you work? You know I wouldn't mind doing that!

Judi, it's fabulous of you to offer! I'm going to check the store here just in case they've decided to jump onto the HP bandwagon. If not, I will definitely be looking for some way to get one here. Thing is, with that weight it won't be cheap to get it here quickly, and it might be possible to just have Amazon or B & N send it. If I can get a good idea of the shipping weight I can estimate USPS charges and compare them to having Amazon send it to me direct.

Does anyone have any feedback as to who is better to pre-order from? Did either one get their pre-orders out early? Right now my choices are Amazon and B & N, as they are the only ones I've ever dealt with online, and they will ship internationally.

I keep meaning to post on this thread and forgetting... but this is big news! I was really afraid that they were going to push it back a few months.

I have a silly question... do they do the midnight book releases and movie premieres in England? I would assume so, but I'm hopefully going to be studying abroad at Oxford for the month of July, and I'm going to be very disappointed if I can't get my Harry Potter as soon as it's released, especially the book!

I guess I'm the only one who isn't sad. I'm glad its coming to a close. Its been a wonderful 10 years, but its time to know the ending. :goodvibes

I'm torn. I really want to know the ending, but I'm sad because I haven't had 10 years - I only got into HP in the last 2 years, and I'm not quite ready for it all to be over!

Have any of you gone to see the movies at midnight the first night it comes out? I'd love to do that but at the same time, I don't want to be tired when watching!

I think I will wait in line though at midnight to get the book for sure!!

Shelby

We do and it is so much fun! The theater had games and activities for us...for PoA, they had mylar balloons of Aunt Marge to give out! We just took a nap in the afternoon so we wouldn't be tired.

It really is fun to see it with a crowd of people that you know are as excited as you...and a big plus is that there were virtually no crying babies or toddlers there!

In June or so, check your local bookstores to see if they are having a book release party. Those are fun too. The last one we went to had a costume contest and trivia games and broomstick races. My daughter got a collectible poster and won a bunch of Harry Potter candy and a Barnes & Noble gift card. It was a hoot. I'll have to scan in the pictures of her in costume with some of the store employees. They had a great Harry and Draco, that dueled all over the store.

I have a Mrs. Weasley costume, and I have also gone as Hermione's mother - i.e. dressed as a dentist - because my daughter likes to be Hermione. But I mentioned before that I would like to be McGonnagal this year.(thanks for the hat links, everyone!) I did offer to give my daughter a temporary haircolor so she could be Ginny...she's thinking about it.

I have gone to the midnight book premieres, but not to a movie, YET. However, the last movie (we saw it on IMAX) on the opening day, and we dressed up...so that's pretty dorky :cool1:

I can't wait for book 7, but I'm sooooo sad too! :guilty:

I'm not positive about the movie but I know they do for sure for the books. I've read about them online before :) How cool you get to study over there!

I did the midnight showing of GoF when it came out. This is when I was working as part of the college program in Disneyworld and I went with a bunch of people from work to the AMC at Downtown Disney. It was so much fun! We took up an entire row :rotfl: I'm going to the OOTP midnight showing with my younger sister this time.

I'm thrilled that we finally have an actual date for the release of the seventh HP book, but I'm also a little disappointed that the final book and the fifth film are being released within a week of each other. We'll have SO much HP excitement and then, nothing. :sad1: I kind of wish that OotP was hitting the theaters in November, not July.

There is also additional Harry Potter news today (although not of the book or film variety.) We have been discussing this for quite some time over on the Universal Forum, but Streamscape has today confirmed that Harry Potter will be coming to Islands of Adventure. :woohoo:

http://www.screamscape.com/html/islands_of_adventure.htm

2009/2010 - Harry Potter / Lost Continent Transformation - (2/1/07) A Screamscape source has confirmed to us that the IOA project is indeed a real Harry Potter project. No more false rumors claiming “letters of intent” from J.K. Rowling to Disney and all that nonsense, it seems that Universal has sealed the deal at last. This has been a long time coming too since Universal has been trying to gain Harry Potter since way back when the first film was still being shot.

There is more info if you click the link. I'm only listing the info from today. If anyone would like to join the discussion with us USF/IOA fans, here's the link to the DIS thread:

I've already pre-ordered my copy. DH has been mocking me all day.

I didn't pre-order because then I would have to WAIT for it, but I definitely will have to figure out where I'm going to buy it. Probably with a bunch of friends at some Barnes and Noble or something. I'm so excited!

I usually pre-order with Amazon. They always tend to arrive on the day the item is released too. :thumbsup2 I'll either do that again this time OR I'll be standing in line at Borders.

How do we know what the difference is between the regular edition and the deluxe edition??

About $30!LOL! The guy at Barnes and Noble said the deluxe edition has a stronger binding and thicker pages.
Yikes. The retail price for the regular is $34.99. I have to buy 4 of them, one for everyone in our family.:faint:

We bought two copies last time, but may need to go with three this time. My DH also loves to listen to the CDs and wants me to find out how quickly the library will have it.

Barnes and Noble's online price for pre orders is $20.99. I wonder if that will be the same price we will get at the retail stores on the release date?

My hubby wants to know how quickly it will be available to download to his iPod. He listens to them all. :listen:

I *SQUEALED* so loudly when I heard the news this morning at work! We all shrieked pretty loudly, actually. Luckily, it was before the library opened... :)

I, too, am sad that this will be the final book. I hope at some point JKR decides to write more about the HP world. Not necessarily a new Harry book, but maybe something like Hogwarts, A History. I'm also suprised the book and movie are being released so close together.

N&B'smom-- I believe the press release said the audiobook will be released on the same day by Bloomsbury (the British publisher.) It wasn't clear if Scholastic (the US publisher) would do the same.

I can blather on about this one. Since you are a librarian, I'm sure you know Madeline L'Engles A Wrinkle in Time, which is one of my favorite books and which I am making my daughter read now and will be so upset if she doesn't like it!

Anyway, I see a similar ending for Harry. He can't love (forgive) Voldemort, just as Meg can't love IT. But he could forgive Snape, as Meg could love Charles Wallace. And in forgiving Snape, I think Harry will allow Snape to do what Harry can't - which is kill Voldemort.

I hope your daughter likes A Wrinkle in Time! That is such a beautiful book.

Very good response. V's army of Death Eaters will be nothing compared to Harry's (and, by extension, DD's) army of family and friends.

It is interesting you think Snape might finish off V. I just finished re-reading HBP and right now, I want Snape to die! I also want him to redeem himself; perhaps by dying at the hands of V to help Harry.

Harry was horrified at the thought of having to kill-- but we've seen him attempt it and fail. I think he is coming to terms with the idea of killing and really might be able to in the last book. Even with all the support he has, I really want to see it come down to him and V and I might be disappointed if V is finished by somebody else. I don't know... I could see Harry able to kill but the idea that he is too pure to actually do it is very valid as well... Who knows where JKR will take Harry? We'll find out in 5 months!

Is anyone else going to be avoiding open forums like this one once we get closer to the book release? When HBP came out a lot of people had the book spoiled for them. They found out who died because people randomly posted about it. By saying it or showing pictures of the page where it says it. I won't be on any forum for about a month before the book comes out. Not DIS, not HP, not MySpace, nothing that just anyone can post aything. I didn't even go on Mugglenet last time just in case, even though they are careful about spoilers. I even saw a video of some jerk shouting out of his car who dies in HBP at people coming out of a bookstore the night it came out. Is anyone else paranoid about spoilers? :confused3

WE LOVE HARRY POTTER!!
