Muddy Buddy Training!

Howdy everyone!!! I'm psyched for our final week of training. Muddy Buddy is less than one week away. Whoo hooooo!

Glad to hear you are feeling better. :thumbsup2

So what is the best way to prep for this race during the final week?

You want to make sure you give your muscles time to heal up. For a marathon, you go through this whole taper process. This race isn't that long, so you don't need a big taper, but you should give your legs some time to recover. You can bike as much as you want because that is not as hard on your legs. You don't have all the pounding and breaking down of muscles as you do with running.

My plan is to run 3 days this week, and do a day of cross-training. Here's my plan: Monday (run), Tuesday (run), Wednesday (cross-train; bike), Thursday (run), Friday (fly - travel to Orlando, no running), Saturday (race). So I'll have one full day off before the race on Saturday.

And what should we eat the night before and the morning of?
Again, this isn't a really long race - so you don't need to do the whole carboloading thing that you might do for a marathon. I think a normal dinner would be fine the night before. You might want to go easy and not eat a big steak or something, but a decent meal that will settle on your stomach well should be fine.

The morning of the race is a little more tricky. I need to eat before I run. I usually have an energy bar (Powerbar w/ protein) an hour before I run, and that will be good for me - some people also swear by a bagel with peanut butter. Again, you want something that is easy to digest, but also has a little protein to hold you over. Try to eat at least an hour before the race to give your stomach time to settle.

What wave is DIS Unplugged Team 3 (Chris/Todd) in? Aaron and I are in wave 4, and I know Paul and Don are in wave 1.

Team 3 is Wave 2.
Man, you're wave 2? Aaron and I are getting gypped. Now, that I think about it though. I think it will be nice we're all spread out on the course. That will give our cheerleaders lots of DISers to cheer for along the way.

I agree, but I think crawling through the mud together is a good idea.

p.s. Did you get my check?

Yes I did, thanks. I was waiting to deposit them all together. There are still a couple I haven't received... :rolleyes1

We are in Wave 2. That means that Team Beast will be waiting for us at the mud pit.

Hmmmm.......

Maybe I need to rethink the taunting strategy. Todd, I think that stealth is best. Be nice to them now, and attack them in the pit. :lmao:

Just cause we start after them doesn't mean we won't speed by them. Our smaller size is our advantage. To heck with the fact that Paul and Don are athletically inclined. (We can tie there shoelaces together.....)

Shoot, I was hoping Aaron and I would catch up to you two. Aaron, make note of the tying shoelaces together strategy.

An important pre-race strategy: I forgot to say this, hydrate, hydrate, hydrate... make sure you drink lots of water before the race. Especially make sure you don't dehydrate yourself the day before. If you're on the plane, drink water. If you're in the parks on Friday, try not to be on your feet all day, and doubly make sure you hydrate.

Thanks for this reminder Dave. It's easy to forget; especially getting excited after just arriving to the Happiest Place on Earth!

I don't plan on visiting any parks other than WWoS to pick up our packet info. We are just going to be hanging around Kidani Village, grabbing a bite to eat and touring the resort.

I'm also planning on getting my race materials as ready as possible for the next day. The last thing I want to do at 4:00AM in the morning is put my race bib on my shirt and put my timer chip on my shoe lace. Basically, just throw my stuff on and head out the door.

We were over at Kidani Village yesterday. You are going to do lots of walking at that resort!!!!

I like this.

We need more thinking like this. :thumbsup2

Team Beast could be "howling" mad after we pass them on the course. :lmao:

Yea! I thought that might be the case. From what pictures I've seen and what I witnessed during the construction. The place is Ginormous! Maybe Dave and I can run a warm-up mile or two down the hallway.

It's a beautiful resort but my goodness you do a lot of walking. If your room is over by AKL to get to the lobby, bus stop, pool you really have a hike.

I will encourage this. The more that Aaron walks is the easier it will be to complete a multi-pronged attack on him and Dave in the mudpit.

1.......2.......3.......4, I declare a Mud War! :lmao:
