As far as I'm concerned, the best part of the whole thing was Grand Master Flash deejaying old school hip hop.

Too bad it was mostly during the commercial breaks!

DH almost had a heart attack when MC Hammer came on stage, he jumped up, put his hands on his hips and started doing the crab from side to side.

Personally, I jumped up and started booty shakin when Luke came on and started in with I Wanna Rock/Doo Doo Brown.

The rest of the show? Crap.

I always watch the VMAs and I usually love them. This year it was nothing but a hip-hop, gangsta/mafia love fest.

I'm sorry but Diddy was just awful. And when he announced the fashion contest and then had those "thugs" come out showing everyone the briefcases of money, I just had to roll my eyes.

I was also wondering who dressed Jessica Simpson. Her whole "look" was trashy.

I had read somewhere that even though she had 8 nominations, Gwen wasn't going to attend because MTV wouldn't let her perform. Obviously she was there, but she didn't look too happy in most of the pan shots I saw.

We could only stomach an hour's worth.

I heard this too, on the radio this morning. They wouldn't let her perform for some reason. Then I heard that in the beginning of the show Diddy was "sampling" some of her song (although I didn't hear it) and she apparently looked very pissed off. I just don't get it. They usually let ALL of the VMA nominees perform a song. Hollaback Girl was nominated so I wonder why she wasn't performing?

I'm actually rather impressed with Green Day.

I'm 28...not old...but not in HS anymore. Green Day was my first concert at 17 years old...love them. (I had a Dookie tee-shirt that I lived in for about a year.) American Idiot is the first CD I've owned in a while that I can put in the my player and NOT have ONE bad song. 10+ years and still rocking? Rock on boys!

About the VMA's...now, I'm not a huge MTV fan anymore (I'm a country girl now mostly . heheh) But I had it on while I was doing some domestic stuff (ironing/sewing some buttons on...yeah, I was BORED last night!)

It seem like it was the "Diddy show". When he was dancing and such? What the heck? Get off the stage...

And Jessica Simpson needs to fire her stylist, makeup artist AND hair stylist. blech! she can be a pretty girl...but she was just blech last night. (dirty south? wth?)

I LOVE Green Day. Been a fan since they were in the punk scene in California....way before they had a major label. But I'm old (36) so I remember their early punk days. I still think they can really kick it live!

Anyway....I thought they gave the best performance of the night IMHO. I was SOOOO disappointed in Kelly Clarkson's performance. She has such a powerful voice but she's going to destroy her vocal cords...unless she's trying to become punk or something? I just don't see what screaming is going to do for her voice and career? I love that song too.....oh well?! It was a bit confusing.

The rest of it was not my style, with the exception of the Killers. I enjoy hip hop but it felt out of balance to me. Not enough rock performances. Would have liked to see Gwen sing anything!! I love her.
