So we are stying at the BW this summer. I called today to see if we could switch to the WL. The girl says, yes theres room and I said great switch it please. Cue the elevator music for a minute...she comes back and says "Oh while I was cancelling your BW, one fo your nights became unavailable." Luckily I could rebook the BW. But the silly newbie didnt hold the WL room while she cancelled our original ressie, so we didnt get the new room and she darn well could have cost us the old one. Man is she lucky. GRRRRR.

Thanks. Had to vent.

Apparently there are some issues with the new "auto waitlist."

This new system works by the computer automatically filling the reservations as they are cancelled. The problem is that the availability is not always accurate. I've noticed over the past few weeks several posters with the same kind of issues you described.

I have a feeling this is going to be a big problem. I would not be surprised if resorts start becoming overbooked.

UGH. I had a similar thing happen. It was at check in for BCV though years ago. The CM said I could get X room that I wanted. Great. As he's reserving the room, he kept talking to me. Then a few minutes later he said, oh, sorry, while we were chatting, someone else reserved your room (the guy next to me). My room was gone and I had to wait another 5 hours for another room. GRRRRRRRR.

that is why i learned to book my room using more points then cancel the old room, then those points go back into my account. I had booked a room and by the time ms put all our names into the system, added the ddp then when she went to give me the conf. # the system wouldnt give her the conf. # because one of my nights disappeared.
it was very strange and i know it happened to other dvc members on this board.

Actually you are lucky to still have the room. I lost both rooms recently, the one I had and the one I had wanted. I have written 2 letters to DVC and have recieved no word back from them. Since I do have someplace to stay, I booked SSR, I am equally concerned with MS's lack of response to me, the room loss, and MS's failure to book the alternate place for me after telling me that he would, and he was a supervisor.

For me, it was on a day that the computers had been down in the morning.

If you would use points from next UY (effectively borrow them) to make the 2nd ressie would they switch them out once the dust settles so that the next UY retains the full complement of points...and moreso, you are still able to bank said year's points?

A proper booking system would allow MS to lock another reservation temporarily without points, then allow them to drop the old reservation and reuse the points on the new one.

You would NEVER cancel a reservation first...it's like trying to book airline tickets - "whoops, those seats are gone...the next ones will cost $300 more..."

Precisely.... For a company that can do so much right... they sure have a lot of trouble with DVC and keeping up with technology. Except those motion sensor t-stats... they're everywhere now.

That's what had me so mad, I have had an effencient MS CM do just that, hold a room for a few minutes while she switched over my reservation.

A happy ending!

So chatting with you folks got me thinking..."This Cm seemed just clueless enough that I better call back and make sure everything is on the up and up, including our waitlist priorities."

I call back and the first thing i ask Janet is "are you a veteran?" She says that shes been on the job four years now. " Excellent!" I say. So I tell her what happened and ask if she would please give everything a once over. Reservation, check. Waitlist, check, ckeck...but wait, she says, she's got a studio at the WLV for us. And low and behold she can actually book it for us without loosing anything, first! TAH DAH!

the love afair is back on.
