My friend and I have decided to take our kids to Myrtle Beach for April School Vac. April 7-14. We will have 2 adults, 3 children (8,8, and 10). We are looking for a hotel. All we need is it to be clean and have a pool and on the beach or close to the beach. It would be great if we could find one with a kitchenette to save some money on eating out. Anyone know of a nice hotel? A place that rents timeshares? This is our first vacation without the hubbies. My DH is staying home to take care of my developmentally disabled son. He said I needed a break!!!:lovestruc Kids are so excited about this trip!! I am so hoping to find something reasonable so we are able to make the trip. Anyone have any great tips??? Thanks in advance.

We stay at the Coral Beach Resort. They have multiple room options but we get the suite which has 2 double beds and a double murphy bed also so it sleeps 6. Great set up to since the murphy bed is actually in the separate living room area. Rooms have a kitchette also. Good prices in the off-season (which is when we go) but you should be able to get an early booking discount since it is more than 30 days out or possibly a AAA discount. Indoor outdoor pools, and right on the beach! Hot tubs, sauna, bowling alley, great breakfast buffet at a decent price. Right up the street from Family Kingdom Amusement park and their waterpark. The website is www.gotomyrtle.com . Greast staff also!

Check out Travelzoo.com for hotel specials. This time of the year they usually have a lot for Myrtle Beach. I'm talking like $40 a night for two bedroom condos.

I would also check out SkyAuction.com and their vacation rentals. You should be able to get a week in a condo for like $400 including all taxes. Just read the fine print carefully since the auction may be $5 but the fees are $295. We have done this many times and always been happy.

Another option is govarm.com or getravelop.com. Can use if anyone is a govt. employee....from teacher to town, state or federal. Great deals for about $300 a week.

Finally, check out homeaway.com and see what you can find from a direct owner. Many would rather cut you a deal than have their condo sit empty.

Hope this helps! Have a blast!

We stayed at a place called the "Baywatch Resort" in North Myrtle, which we found a little less "packed in", if that makes sense. If you've been to Myrtle Beach before, you know what I mean: main Myrtle is where a lot of the action is, but it's also pretty tightly packed with resort condo's. North Myrtle seemed to be a little less so. It DID require a bit of a drive to get to some of the attractions like Broadway on the Beach and other fun stuff. As for the resort, it was very reasonably priced, had A LOT of pools (3 main pools outside, a few more inside, hot tubs, lazy rivers, ect). Plus, it was right on the beach, where the water was perfect--required no 'dip the toe in and wait for the wave to hit you'.

Now, I'll have to warn you that if you read trip advisor, you'll get a range of opinions about every resort, making it a bit difficult to choose, and figure out which of these opinions are fact, and which are being posted by employees (I have my doubts--lots of one time posters always make me wonder). Regardless, the Baywatch was a bit run down, as are many of these places. They're located along the ocean, and take a beating by the weather I'm sure. But if you come with an open mind and a desire to stay within a reasonable budget, it's a great place to stay. A lot less costly than Disney, but then again, my kids got bored there kinda quickly, and kept comparing it to the constant 'go-go-GO' a Disney vacation requires.:thumbsup2. As for my wife and I, laying on the warm sand all day listening to the sound of the beach is my form of fun:)

Enjoy!!

By the way, the Baywatch offers one and two bedroom oceanfront with balcony units, that typically have full or at least partial (oven, micro, sink, some counter and cabinet space) kitchens for making food and saving some money. Most of the oceanfront places do. Google Myrtle Beach rentals, and check the various sites. They're filled with photos and info. You'll find it can be as challenging as lining up a vacation at WDW!!

And...I see you're listing from upstate NY. Driving in one day is not the way to go if you can avoid it. We did on the way back. It's a loonnnngggg drive (which I think we made longer by taking a wide route from Central New York, rather than hooking up with I95 quickly). We wanted to avoid traffic heading through the DC corridor, but I think we ended up spending more time in the car as a result. If you have any questions, please post em.

Check our The Landmark Resort! We always stay there and are able to find a good deal. It's one of the few that have a walkover so you don't have to cross the busy street to get to the parking garage. They have big indoor and outdoor pools, 2 lazy rivers, 1 kid lazy river, countless hot tubs, a kids waterpark, a mini golf course, kids activities (seashell hunting, jewelry making, etc.) just lots of things!! My kids are perfectly content at the resort and we'd never have to leave and they'd still have a great time. It's also oceanfront, just steps from the beach. Check out their savings page on their website.

The Landmark is not in North Myrtle, it's in the busier part of town. I disagree with a PP though, because I think North Myrtle is nice for kids too. If you're looking for less hustle and bustle, less crowds, etc. you may want to go in that direction. Both are great it just depends on your preference. We have stayed in that area once and stayed at The Caravelle resort. It's also a nice resort but doesn't have quite as much to offer as The Landmark. It has plenty of activities but has a more relaxed and quiet feel than some of the resorts in town. It's still perfectly within driving distance of all the major attractions though. We were able to get anywhere we wanted to go within 15 minutes or so.

I recommend Dunes Village Resort on the northern end of Myrtle Beach. There are tons of children's activities, indoor waterpark, indoor hot-tubs for adults to relax and watch the kids on the waterslides... Dunes Village is on the beach, has two outdoor pools, poolside bar, onsite restaurant and it is clean. There are many different types of accommodations to choose from. We spent a few days there during Spring Break last year and had a wonderful time. We even returned for a long weekend during the summer.

Be careful: Myrtle Beach is full of cheap hotels but some are just yucky!:scared1:

Have a great trip!

Best Western Carolinian Beach Resort. You can get an oceanfront 2 bedroom/2 bath with full kitchen, balcony, 3 flat screen tvs. We stayed there last year for my niece's World Series. It has beautiful views. Do NOT stay in the rooms in the regular part. They aren't nearly as nice. The 2 bedroom condos are very nice and they are very, very close to all the attractions. http://www.oceanaresorts.com/hotels/carolinian

Thank you for all the info!! I will be looking at all suggestions!!! We will be driving to Washington the first day, staying with friends, doing some sightseeing and then driving on the next day. Thanks again!!

We always rent from Elliott Realty.

Be sure to check out their specials page.

They have a HUGE listing with tons of properties in various price ranges.

We've stayed off-season in a 3 BR condo with a full kitchen, washer / dryer, indoor pool, and lazy river for around $500 for the entire week.

Seconding Skyauction. I got a week in Maine at a timeshare resort hotel once from them for under $300 total.

As above, read the fees and etc. fine print - it's not a scammy thing or anything, the website basically sells off travel agent and other such extras and the fee is the guaranteed $, the auction prices are on top.

I second the suggestion of Dunes Village. Right on the beach, kitchen, nicely decorated, close to shopping and restaurants and the indoor waterpark is great.

Thanks for suggesting this resort! We just booked here for our spring break the end of March.

We'll be there the week after you! We're staying at the Marriott Grand Dunes and in years past we've done the Crown Reef which does have kitchenettes.

We've gone to MB for the past 6 or so years straight. We have stayed at the Long Bay Resort for the five years. Last year we stayed a the Dunes Village and didn't like that quite as much.
Dunes Village seemed too spread out. It was 2 building and each had indoor water parks. Those were nice but I'd rather be outside when I'm at the beack. Also, their outdoor pool and lazy river was pretty small IIRC.

The Long Bay also has a kids play area that is separate from the main outdoor pool but they do have shallow kids pools near the main outdoor pool. And the pool is much bigger than the Dunes Village. Also, the Long Bay has a Starbucks in it (probably the reason my wife picked it in the first place :lmao:).

So, Dunes Village wasn't bad just not quite as good as Long Bay to my family.

This is where we stay, because we use Marriott points. It's nice, but food options are very limited and pricey. I don't know if you have a plan, but we did eat out many meals but also brought snacks, waters, drinks, etc. and breakfast items. We had a medium size cooler and brought milk and some coldcuts for sandwiches and bread for the first day or so, cheese for crackers and some hummus.

You can walk next door to the villas and the poolside restaurant/bar has some good lunch choices not very expensive. They also have a Pizza Hut grab and go. You can't use the pool (they give wristbands) but you can order food and eat there.

Have a nice time, it's a nice resort.

i have not read all the other posts but we just booked at the sea mist resort it has a waterpark onsite some of the rooms/suites are ocean front some are ov. we have at least 12 room booked so far(my dd is playing in a softball tournament in aug down there) we booked the waterpark view/sideview of the ocean family suite has a kitchenette(sp?) so we can cook if we want. it was only $124/night
