Tomorrow my multicultural literature class will be visiting Animal Kingdom for the day. Besides having a lot of fun, they are required to review at least one ride/ride building and one live show for evidences of culture and how that is represented in the ride/show. They are all required to see the Festival of the Lion King show as well as at least walk through the Expedition Everest ride building to experience the culture represented there. They may or may not choose those two attractions as the ones they review. Most of them are seniors, and though we are locals, many of them have never been to Animal Kingdom. Look for their postings here tomorrow night. They look forward to seeing who reads and responds!

Mt. Everest ride is the ride that I'm going to review, because that's the only ride I went on. Take on the treacherous terrain of the towering Forbidden Mountain in this high-altitude, high-speed train adventure. Nail-biting hairpin turns hurl you forward toward the peak and then, just when you think it couldn't get more thrilling - backward! The mountain's full of surprises: Beware the snarling beast who watches over his domain... the Yeti!

You saw the culture in the area you walk through to get to the ride. You see it, by all of the pictures and evidence of the "yeti."

I thought that the ride was a lot of fun. I think the ride itself was just made for fun. But I did like all of the artifacts shown through the walk through.

I saw Pocahontas and Her Forest Friends show. It showed culture of the Indians.

Go on a quest with Pocahontas and her animal friends in this intimate musical stage show. The Native American princess seeks the advice of Grandmother Willow when her forest is threatened. Pocahontas' quest leads her to commune with many live critters on stage in this show that is a delight for young and old.

I thought the show was, to say the least...intersting. I don't think it really showed a good side of the culture. I think this show was more for little kids, and I wouldn't recommend teens to see with other teens.

The pictures of the show is on Kates camera...so maybe she'll post them.

But all in all I had a lot of fun, but I think that mostly had to do with the people I hung out with..."OH MY GOSH LOOK AT THAT!!!!":rotfl:

I rode the ride Expedition Everest and went to The Lion king adventures.
The ride Everest was located in Asia and to get to the lion king was a nice walk all the way across the park . the whole theme park was an exciting adventure and thrill but the rollercoater Everst was just completely off the chain....lol...it descibed the myth of the yettie and how it is believed to live on Mount Everest. Both times i rode on this exhillerating ride i used a fast pass card so i was unable to actually walk through the building but im sure it brings very interesting information to enhance your wait time for the ride which could take five minutes to 120 minutes depending on the day. i would give the ride a 9 out of 10:banana: due to i wish it put me upside down but it is a definite when going to Animal kingdom.

The lion king show was also an amazing performance that is a must see. the acting, singing, and acrobatic performance was intense...keeping me on my feet and leaving me wanting to see more...This show is one that should be watched after a long walk across the park and lunch so you will have time to relax and digest. This show is great for all ages so bring the whole family...

Animal Kingdom was lots of fun.
I went on the Mount Everest ride as did everyone else, and let me tell you.. it was very exhilarating. I must be completley honest that I didnt have time to take pictures inside the Everest ride because we had a fast pass and we just ran to the front of the line so we could get front row seats. The ride has the abominable snowman in a couple of places. I guess he was trying to eat us or something. (we got away).
I also went to see the Lion King Show. That was very exciting to watch. The characters sang beautifully and i enjoyed singing along with them. The culture represented would be African I presume. It shows a lot about their culture by how they would dance about in a wild fashion. I would recommend this show to family and friends of all ages because it is very entertaining to watch even though it goes by so quickly. I took some pictures, it was dark inside so they are hard to see. And i dont know how to upload them onto this page. Dont worry, its just Simba. He's a lion. Oh and another guy on stilts. thats all the pictures I took because I was too excited to watch the show.
oh yah there was one of an elephant too cause we were the elephant side.

I love Mrs. Jackson :-D

The ride I'm going to talk about is The Kali River Rapids
Description: Prepare to get soaked as you go white water rafting down the turbulent waters of the Chakranadi River.
I got a thick asian feel right from the get go. It was more of a Chinese vibe, but either way it was a definite asian vibe. I think it integrated the culture very well. Even though standing in line I got an asian feel, once I boarded the ride and it actually started going, I felt like I was in an african safari. So I'm not quite sure what that means, but the culture of the african safari was everywhere; between the broken down truck that looked like it was going through the rough terrain of Africa, all the way to the mistiness and what have you. I would recommend this ride, however I was quite disapointed because I rode it twice and never really got soaked..and thats the ONLY reason I went on it!

Onto the show, The Festival of the Lion King
Description: Cool off at this high-energy tribal celebration with joyous music, dance and specialty performances. Plus, sing along with your favorite characters from "The Lion King".
This show was very upbeat from the start! I loved how the costumes really fit into the African culture. I also LOVE LOVE LOVE the Lion King so the way the "characters" were built to look so real was amazing! I also LOVED the gymnasts and the fire dude! It was an amazing show and REALLY great for kids, I think it was more of a 3-10 year old kind of show but I found some of it attractive to kids our age. All in all the show was amazing, and it definately showed the African culture with the clothing style.

Amanda

wow...very cool! thanks for the opinions.:thumbsup2 now...how to get my professors to make that a requirement for me....

sounds like you all had fun!

:welcome:

I went on Expedition Everest-Legend of the Forbidden Mountain. I would describe it as a fast ride that goes backwards, forwards and has many twists, turns, and even a big drop. In the area where you wait to enter the ride you could see the asian culture represented. There were also many pictures of the "Yeti" throughout the bulidings. I don't believe the ride showed too much culture at all. I think it was mainly based around the Yeti. I enjoyed this ride a lot and would recomend it to young thrill seekers. :thumbsup2

I saw The Festival of the Lion King. It was an up-beat lively show. There was loud music, dancing, and a variety of diffrent colors everywhere. The show represnted african culture. I think they did a great job in intergrating the culture. I saw african culture represented all throughout the show in the dancing, the clothing, and the music. I enjoyed the show a lot and would definantly recommend it for the entire family. :jumping1:

**Due to the fact that I didn't have a digital camera with me I have no pictures to show you of our exciting trip. Sorry guys:sad:!!**

Awesome feild trip Mrs. Jackson!! :hippie:

Hello there. Today I took a trip to Disney's Animal Kingdom. There was so much to see. First, we went to Expedition Everest. The object is to spot the infamous Yeti and I did. This ride was a lot of fun. Mt. Everest is in Asia so obviously this ride would be in the Asian part of the park. The decor through the waiting rooms was elaborate. I noticed snow equipment which was interesting. I think I got a feel for what the Asian mounts are like. Nest, we saw a show, the Loin King. The costumes were colorful and unique. The stunts were capturing and above all entertaining. I noticed the African theme through the costumes and actors on stage. I feel it portrayed the African culture in a blissful manner. I would definitely recommend this park to everyone who enjoys culture, excitement, and adventure.

when i walked in everest i thought it was so realistic. i actually thought the creature was really. i think it was because of the artifacts that were present. the ride was fun. the only thing i did not like was when we were climbing up i thought it was a big drop but it acually was a really small one. the lion king was really good. i realy like the duet with the dancing birds. obviously the culture presented in the lion king is african. the language they spoke was swahili. of all the features in animal kingdom i highly recommend the lion king

What a fun field trip! I wish we had Animal Kingdom here in Oregon:thumbsup2

I enjoyed reading all of your trip reports! Thanks so much for posting the great descriptions of Mt. Everest and Lion King. I noticed you are getting to be great writers!

Lion King was my favorite when I was there in 2004 - I will be back to ride Mt. Everest in June! Thanks Again!:hippie:

Yesterday was my first time in disney's Animal Kingdom.
Upon our arrival he headed straight for Mt. Everest, which
i opted not to ride, im not one for fast and heart racing rides.
Most of my day was spent with Karen, Aleisa, and brian.
I found that the Lion King show was pretty Spectacular, I was mostly impressed with the singing ability as well as the acrobatics.

AnimalKingdom010.jpg

I found that their choices of food was relitively limited.
My Group ended up eating at a chicked restuaurant that
turned out to be less that what we expected. But, along
the way we managed to sneak a peak at some of the animals
that animal kingdom has to offer: a tortouse, a makaw,
a porcupine, some snowy white birds, and various other types
of birds.

AnimalKingdom018.jpg

We focused mostly on shows, they seemed like they would
be the most interesting. After the Lion King we saw a pocahontas
show ( a little childish, but it was animal involved so we figured it
would be interesting). It ended up being incredibly cheesy and the
message of "let the animals roam the forest" became a little confused
when they had to stop the show to cage the porcupine. Then we saw nemo... i dont know what to say, i liked it but it was wierd.

Overall the trip was fun, a good reason not to be in school.

Expedition Everest is the ride I'll review as well because it was the most interesting.
Description: Take on the treacherous terrain of the towering Forbidden Mountain in this high-altitude, high-speed train adventure. Nail-biting hairpin turns hurl you forward toward the peak and then, just when you think it couldn't get more thrilling - backward! The mountain's full of surprises: Beware the snarling beast who watches over his domain... the Yeti!

-I saw some culture through the area where we walked through to get to the ride. It had a lot of artifacts and pictures of the Yeti.
-I really had fun except for the beginning where they took my little self way too far up so I decided to just close my eyes. I recommend this for ones who are taller than 44 inches(people of my ages wouldn't find that very hard) lol, YESSS I obviously barely made it!!! :cool1:

The Festival of the Lion King is the show I will review.
Description: Cool off at this high-energy tribal celebration with joyous music, dance and specialty performances. Plus, sing along with your favorite characters from "The Lion King".
-Culture was seen throughout the whole show. The clothing and the man with the fire represented the African culture.

-I had a lot of fun at this show except it was kind of weird when one of the guys on the stilts was talking to Simba....hmmm??? I always thought there was a person with sticks inside to manuever Simba, I hope so because a guy talking to a mechanical object is a little tad bit weird. But anyways, I recommend this show to all ages.

Unfortunately I didn't bring my camera so no pictures, sorry!!
But I had fun and i'd def. go again just to take my brother to the show "It's Tough To Be A Bug" to scare him a little. I figured it would because Amanda had a lot of "fun" I may say but then again her eyes were close the whole time lol :goodvibes

Krystle :woohoo:

Bonus question: Did any of you notice the flags all over the Expedition Everest area? What are they for?

It ended up being incredibly cheesy and the
message of "let the animals roam the forest" became a little confused
when they had to stop the show to cage the porcupine.

I love all the reports thus far but this one really cracked me up. Excellent observation! :thumbsup2

The first ride I experienced at Animal Kingdom was Expedition Everest (This was the first time riding it so I requested the front). The ride was pretty cool. There were a lot of things that you would not expect. The ride was fun but I was kind of disappointed in it because there were not any big drops or really sharp turns. Even if you do not like roller coasters this one is a pretty tame coaster. (If you have been on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in the Magic Kingdom you can go on this one) If you want to get the adrenalin pumpin I would suggest The Rock’n’ Roller Coaster in the MGM Studios.

After Everest my group and I went to see some of the shows. The first show we went to was The Lion King. This show was pritty amazing. If The Lion King was one of your favorite Disney’s movies this show is a must. As you listen to all the great songs of The Lion King sung live you watch a lot of preformers walking aroung on stilts, flying throught the air, and dancing around. The show showed a lot of the African Culture through the costumes of the performers.

After The Lion King we went to see the Pocahontas show. This show was good for little kids I guess. The show was kinda cheesey (like some of my other class mates have said..lol) But you get to see some animals and learn a little about them.

After that we went to see Finding Nemo – The Musical. This show was kinda weird. The show was just like the movie but the performers held big puppets of the characters and sang songs about the situations in the movie. The puppets were very cool tho…but it was just hard getting past the prople standing right in front of the puppets. But over all the show was just like the movie….so if you liked the movie you would like the show.

Another cool part of the park was when you walk around you had all types of animals some where by you. There are also alot of street perfomers dancing and playing music of the culture of the area of the park you are in. Over all i had a very fun time there.
