Hi Sally,

We're leaving on June 7th. From your suggestions, Mr. Sanchos sounds great, and it is a definite. Is it possible to spend time that day also at Chankanaab, because we love snorkeling. How long are you allowed to stay there in the evening? What exactly is there "free" to do there in addition to snorkeling? How is the beach there for swimming? How far from Mr. Sanchos? Thanks so much for all of your help.

Chankanaab is actually located closer to the pier than Mr. Sanchos. We were told the concessions (snorkeling, food, etc.) close at 6, but technically the beach is always open. Once you have paid your admission, swimming is free (and snorkeling if you bring your own equipment), and you can wander the grounds and view the ruins. You have to pay for the dolphin encounter, sea lion show, and sea lion encounter. We spent several hours there yesterday and really enjoyed it.

Hi Barb-

Hope you are having a great time. Did you think Chakanab is a good pick for little ones? My boys will be 2.5 and 5 when we sail in October. I plan on taking my snorkeling equipment but want a beach that is sandy with calm water for the boys?

Thanks!
Tiff

My dh and I went to Chankanaab last yr. We both loved it!! Didn't want to leave at all!! Spent most of the time snorkeling. I remember by the restaurant that's right on the beach, was a sandy area where the little ones hung out.
So much to do there for everyone. Everything is pretty close.
Fun to watch the dolphins too. I spent a lot of time doing that. Beautiful grounds to walk around.
Have a great time!! :Pinkbounc

did you take your own snorkel equipment? Do you remember how much the rental is for snorkel equipment there?

Thanks!

Yes, we bought our own equipment. We used it other islands as well. We got our money's worth.
Plus this Fall, we'll be using it again. I don't think it's a huge investment and it's yours! Don't have to worry about those mouth pieces being in someone elses mouth.
Now we just need to get the kids their own before we leave.
We bought ours at a Sporting goods place, but you can also check out Costco.

You'll love Chankanaab! :Pinkbounc
