Do the stores in WDW still have the areas where kids can make a Mr Potato head with all of the fun Disney-themed pieces and parts? If so, will a regular Mr Potato Head (just the base) work with these parts and pieces? Would it be more cost effective to take our Mr Potato Head with us and only buy the parts and pieces? Or is the actual base included in the price of the parts and pieces?
Thanks!

Yes, they still sell the Potato Head parts and bodies...biggest selection is in Downtown Disney at Once Upon a Toy. All the parts they sell will work with any other Potato Head from Hasbro, so it's a cheaper alternative to buy one from Walmart - and then just get the WDW parts when you go.

You can pay per part, but it's more cost effective to take their boxes and jam as much into them as possible.

Warning: You will want more than one potato in the end....so many choices, so few bodies....

I have 7 now...not counting specials and holidays which I finally starting putting away with the holiday decorations. The little guys are addictive...

Last year at AK we went into a store that sold
a large selection of MPH pieces.
We were at a DINOLAND store, either:
"The Dino Institute Shop"
or
"Chester & Hester's Dinosaur Treasures"
I can't remember which carried them but they
were so much fun.

For the most part there were bins of all sorts of pieces for
MPH and you fill up a box that you get from a CM and pay
a flat price

There were also many pre-packed unique themed
pieces that would be great to collect and had there own premarked price.
:goodvibes

Well if you plan on playing with the toys while on vacation, it would be much cheaper to buy the potatoe heads at home and then buy the "fill your own" box at DTD.. that way you are not wasting space in the box for the head and can shove in a bunch of special disney only pieces.

They also have a little pony station too!!

How much is it to fill a box? I found some of the Disney Potato Head pieces online and was considering ordering them for DD2, but maybe I shold wait until we go. And DD4 LOVES her ponies, so I'm sure we'll need to accessorize them as well!

Instead of the box, we filled the big Mr. Potato Head. Since both of our kids were wanting to each do a box, we just let them fill the 1 big head. I believe it was around $50.00. You wouldn't believe all the stuff we fit in that thing. We had the entire Cinderella, Ariel, Mr. Incredible, Buzz Lightyear, etc. this included the princesses hair & shoes (and these pieces are huge!!).

This is a bit OT but, I was sooo upset the other day because I caught our dog chewing up Mr. Potato Head's MICKEY GLASSES:eek:
I wonder if that alone is a good enough reason to start planning our next trip to the world:laughing:

Is the big head thing new? Where did you get it? We were there in Dec 06 and I don't recall seeing it. We did fill a box....I packed it and repacked it, much to the dismay of my husband who wanted to get out of the store! The CM finally told me that I didn't have to have the box closed all the way.

For our next trip, I am taking inventory of all my (I mean, the kids ;)) Potato Head parts so we can get more parts without duplicates!

Oh man, dog ate glasses. I think that's a great reason to start planning another trip!

I was at DL over here in Cali ... they just got the new big MPH you can fill but we don't have that big of a selection like WDW :sad1: ... so I thought it was a waste ... but I do plan on filling a big one at WDW when I go in June :)

They did already have some of these big MPH filled and wrapped for purchase with parts inside ... do they do this at WDW too?

We just returned a week ago and we also got the big Potato Head. It was $49.50 (plus a few cents I think). Because I am a super thrifty person :rotfl: I filled 4 boxes and then spilled everything on the floor and packed and repacked the head until I got the most into it. The way I crammed it full, I think it was just under 4 boxes of pieces (now at $19.00 a box) that I put into the big head. If you are buying alot it is worth it. And I just bought the pieces we didnt have from 2 years ago. And no heads! (brought those from home to play in the resort!)

The arms of the regular potato head (not from WDW) have hands that don't allow putting pieces on it, like autograph book, mickey ice cream bar, and so on. The arms from WDW have hands that will allow this. Definately get a set of them.

We were there the first week of May.

Here is a list of everything we fit into our big Mr. Potato Head:

Buzz Lightyear suit, shoes & laser gun
Ariel hair & mermaid outfit
Cinderella hair & glass slipper feet & glass slipper on pillow attachment (for the hand)
Mr. Incredible eyes, arms, suit & shoes
Mickey Mouse shoes
Minnie Mouse shoes & hair bow
Mickey wizard hat w/ears
Mickey nautical hat w/ears
2 pirate eyes w/eyepatch, pirate hat & 2 pirate ears w/earrings
Minnie Mouse princess hat w/ears
4 Mickey white gloves
Mickey Safari hat w/ears
Maleficent hat and staff
Peter Pan hat
black souvenir Mickey hat w/ears
Mickey Mouse sunglasses
Lots of random arms
2 magic wands
Pin trading lanyard
Lots of random noses & teeth
Folded paper hat
Mickey treat or treat bag
Souvenir camera
Mickey Mouse's suitcase
Large teddy bear

And, the feet, wigs & costumes for the characters are BIG pieces. You just have to keep at it and tamp the container down to get stuff to settle. Arms & face pieces can be shoved into the tiniest of places between stuff.

One thing to be sure of: If you get the white Mickey gloves, be sure that you don't just grab the hands -- make sure you have a right hand and a left hand. I was in such a hurry that I grabbed 3 right hands and 1 left & didn't notice until we got back to Atlanta and unpacked it!!

Also forgot to add that we don't worry about buying the actual MPH body there, we have them at home. You can also buy them for just a couple of dollars at other stores. They take up a lot of room inside your boxes or the big MPH body.

Aha! So I am not the only person who will spend time packing and repacking to get the most bang for my buck! I'm planning on going to DTD myself to Once Upon a Toy so that I don't have an impatient husband or children to worry about. Then, I can spend as long as I need to get the most parts. Its a pet peeve of mine...it would drive me nuts if there were empty spaces in the box where I could've squeezed in more parts! I saw few people putting just a couple things in a box...I had to bite my lip so I wouldn't ask them if I could pack more things in there for them! $19 for four parts? Come on!! I could've fit 20 more in there, easy!

I figured out you can flip the shoes and fill in the bottom with smaller parts :rotfl: We purchased MPH parts at Epcot even though the plan was for DTD. Next time I need to hit DTD for what was not available and by looking at others lists that was alot- waa! Only the small boxes were available to fill but the big one would have a been a waste at epcot cause I fit everything available into one very stuffed small box.
MPH went with us to see Ratatouille today.

My husband and I told the kids to play right around us and we filled the thing ourselves. They would come and say can we get this and we would put it in but we went on what we thought they would love the best & we were right -- they loved it! Played with them today as a matter of fact!

We leave Sat. and have a list of parts we need to get. DD put together a list and I just need to print it off. These suckers are adictive.
