MR January 29 2012- Who's in?

Hi Marc

I second Moomy-san; you need to stay on this sailing! My DH and I did this itinerary on RCI the exact same week in 2010. We loved the ports and never felt unsafe. In Mazatlan we did horseback riding on the beach and in PV we did the zipling adventure. It was awesome! :thumbsup2

My DH and I are also celebrating our 10th anniversary, this June, but we're waiting til the winter to really celebrate so we can escape the cold. We're also going to be spending 5 days pre-cruise at Disneyland.

Since we'd also be nieghbors it would be great to get to know you beforehand.

Disneyland visitors

For those of you coming early o visit the parks Disney just released today all the various ride, show and attraction closures ... Just want you to have a heads up

This week has certainly had it's DCL ups and downs. I had previously declared a moratorium on looking at the main DCL Forum because of negativity and speculation. (The withdrawals were horrendous!!) I returned yesterday to just check in after a bit of an absence... I was worried that maybe something had happened in the DCL world and I wouldn't be among the first to know!!;)

Well, loooong story short...stupid me. I should not ever read about policy changes or new rules. This whole kids programming/daily open house thing is stressing me out. I have no idea why- my youngest, Dannan is 7 and can do both the club and the lab with ease. She is the perfect age for both... but she liked the Club better and is very excited to go back. I just don't think she will be excited to share it with 8-10 year olds. I do realize that she doesn't have to go... but if I want to read my book or spend some time with my husband, she does!!:sad2:

Sorry for the vent.
On the UP side of things, got my FE gifts just about packaged up, DD7's suitcase is 1/2 full and all of her bows are made-to-match her outfits. (I have a hair bow business... it pays for all of our trips!!)
I hope every one else is having a wonderful week!!

What do you mean... They are all together ? They aren't separate anymore .. It actually would work for my boys to hang together ... Hmmm interesting

and your bows are beautiful, love the ones I got for our granddaughter

There is now a big portion of each day that is 'unsecured programming'... meaning that there is no check-in/out for the kids and parents are allowed to play with their kids in the unsecured area. New policy has made it so that adults are not allowed in the club/lab while children are checked in. If one area has the open-house (ie no unaccompanied children but no DCL supervision per se)the other area has ALL the kids that are checked-in. So for @ 3 hours every day the kids will ALL be lumped together in one area or the other. Apparently this is a security issue so I don't fault dCL for implementing new policies to keep my kids safe, but it is a pain if the Lab is crawling with big kids and there is nothing for the littlest ones to do.

This is our first cruise and I had no clue what the club was before this. My DD will be turning 4 shortly after the cruise and seems to do ok with younger and older children. As for the time she has in the club, I don't mind if we go with her and I know she's usually happier if we're around still. DH is wanting to spend more time with her any way, so while DS is napping then then can go hang out at the club.

That being said it sounded like there is still areas that is for Kids and DCL cast members only.

I've been trying to follow along with this kids club stuff. From reading current navigators, I'm just more confused.

I'm sure all will be fine... but I am such a worrier that it bugs me if it even looks like it might be different. Don't let it stress you all out, too. Disney wouldn't set out to make people angry... i am sure that it is all handled quite well. i am sure I am over-reacting and imagining things to be waaaayy worse than they really are!!

On the bright side- my TA is over-nighting my DCL docs to me today. Our Disneyland tickets still hadn't reached her so she called Disney and they were just going to print them today. Since she usually has docs sent to her first, she knew that wasn't going to work. So they will also rush them directly to us. I'm getting anxious to have them in my hands.

A beginner question or questions....where do I find the schedule of what night is Pirate night or formal? Also what are the ages for the kids clubs or where do I find that. I have an almost 14yo who wants to be with the older teens and would be bummed to be with his 11yo brother. Is there a slumber party for the 11yo with cast members? I have no idea where my son heard there was a slumber party on the cruise and not sure I would allow him to go.

Hi - so I've made several calls to DCL asking nearly the same questions, so let me share with you what I have found (and more ;)).

Day - Dress
1 - Cruise Casual
2 - Formal
3 - Cruise Casual
4 - Cruise Casual
5 - Pirate night
6 - Semi-formal
7 - Cruise Casual

(I am pretty sure I got it right for night 4 - that's our Palo so I listed it differently for me, but I'm 99% with night 4 and 100% on the other 6 nights - based on a recent call to DCL)

Lots of the questions you have are not posted, but I had the same ones and called.

My son is 13, and I asked if he could go to the older group, and they said DCL is pretty strict about ages - so I believe your 14 yo will be in the older (high school group) anyway. I've heard that they are pretty open with the younger kids (oceaneer lab/other ocean venue), but I guess not with tweens/teens (which is just as well for me). The younger group is 11 - 13 year olds.

Never heard of the slumber party, but I want to go (not my kids, just me!)!

I can't remember the exact breakdown for the kids clubs but I *think* that it is 11-13 in the Edge and 14-17 in the vibe. Not sure about the slumber party, Mikhaila wasn't all too interested in Edge activities last year.
As for Pirate Party, it should be Thursday night. HTH :)

Not sure if they do this on 7 night cruises. When we were on the Panama Canal cruise (15 days) our grandkiddies went for a sleepover, but I don't believe they had one on our Alaska Cruise (7 day).

DCL does organize a show that the kids star in at the end of the cruise, it is called Friendship rocks, a great show, put on by the kids cruising. We loved going to this.:cheer2::cheer2:

Finishing up the FE today, clothes are all over the house.

Is there going to be a meet and greet???

How do I figure out what day is the character breakfast. Also what time is it at. I booked Palo brunch the second sea day and hope it doesn't interfere

Thanks so much Megglas!!! Great info, I need to see what night I made reservations for Palo. Im such a newbie I forgot to consider other acticvities when I made reservations.

I hope they bend a little with age. My older son will still be 13 on the cruise, a few weeks shy of his bday, he will refuse to be with his 11yo brother for any length of time. They are so completely different! I am sure it will all work out and if it doesn't I will just try to book more time in the spa.

What is the difference between formal and semi formal?

I was very glad to see there are spreadsheet maniacs which I hope get posted or shared somehow. I also had to laugh that others were having nightmares. I thought I was going crazzy! I swear I had one that was somehow in the form of DISboards. Too much scrolling through to find information.

Okay, so we're getting down to the last little bit here . . . and I realize that the boys' passports are expired. Because, of course, they're only good for 5 years and our last Disney cruise was in 2006, so they expired in April. Last time around we were required to have passports, NOT birth certificates, but that was just when they were tightening up security and may also have been tied to our Caribbean destinations. Our travel packet says certified copies of birth certificates are acceptable, but I'm scared to death that we'll get to port and they'll say, "Sorry, no passport, no cruise!" Please reassure me :) I really don't want to take a trip to San Francisco for emergency passports . . .

And in other news, I've begun full-on packing panic LOL Still freaking out about FEs, too. (Awesome, *amazing* job on the list BTW! Thanks again, Roxanne and all our spreadsheet wizards!!)

It's the morning after your first night at AP. Your server should remind you, but it will also be on the ticket with your dining rotation. It will be in your room when you board.

I am not sure about the certified copy, but we only have birth certificates for our kids so that is what we are using.

When in doubt call Disney!

Thanks.

We are starting to get anxiety but packing is calming it.
