Hi everyone,
I need your help on a surprise for my DW. My DW turns 30 in August and I want to take her on a surprise trip to WDW. On her birthday I want to give her a card or a gift of some type that tells her to pack her bags because we leave for WDW the next morning. Here is where I need your help, I would like to come up with something very original to let her know about the trip.
Thanks,
Mr.Disney

What about making it a scavenger hunt? You could leave something by the bed in the morning and she would follow the clues to find where to find the next clue and at the end you could have a mickey cake or balloons or such and a card with the plane tickets.

I like the hunt idea a lot!

Something to kind of spin off from what was already suggested, you could have a ballon boquet delivered to her work with Latex (assuming she isn't allergic) balloons. They could be Red, white and Yellow with the letters printed on them

P A C K Y O U R B A G S W E A R E G O I N G T O D I S N E Y

and then have a mickey mouse mylar balloon in the middle.

It wouldn't have to be a Mickey theme. You could use whatever her favorite character is and go with their color theme.

In a way it still would be a savanger hunt, as all of those letters would be pretty random and she'd have to figure it out.

Like I said, I like the hunt and however you tell her she's sure to go wild!

Your wife is VERY lucky - I wouldn't mind my prince charming springing a trip to Disney on me!!

I am personally into deceptive packaging. Get a HUGE box - appliance sized. Nest a bunch of smaller sized boxes in it with the last box being a small one with the park or airline tickets.

Or maybe put the tix inside a book - something she would never read.

The scavenger hunt idea is always good.

Surprises are so much fun!

That is always good..be sure to add a brick for weight. Maybe even pack some generic item..like a toaster she wanted and then attach your surprise on the plug or something..so she thinks all she got was this lame toaster and then finds out she got disney!

Or you could full around with her and have it writtennin a special place :cool1:

the fun of a Disney theme is super!

Or you could do a mystery trip theme with the scavenger hunt & let her be surprised waiting until she gets to the airport for the big reveal.

Perhaps a stuffed Minnie or Mickey waiting in your car, all strapped into her seat (of course providing you are off to the airport using yr auto--you could arrange for it to be in the airport limo or in the vehicle of whoever drives you there)

Maybe furnish her with a Princess tiara--there are some nice paper or plastic ones available.

Lucky Lady!

How about getting her a Precious Moments Disney Figurine (available via mail order from Disney) or one made by Lenox (usually found at Hallmark Shops)...When she opens the gift you can have a note inserted..."Pack your bags, we are going to celebrate at the real deal." And as a bonus, the figurine will serve as a fun memory long after you return home from the trip...every time she looks at it, she'll remember the awesome surprise you gave her!!!

WOW
These are some great ideas!! My DW is a big time coffee drinker, so one of my ideas was to buy her a new coffee maker with all the features. Then put some kind of Disney related item(plane ticket, or confirmation letter) in the new glass coffee pot.

How about writing a message on the windshield of her vehicle. Say something like, "Don't be long. You've got packing to do!!! We're going to WDW tomorrow!!! Happy Birthday!!!" You could also use letters, poster board, etc., in place of writing, if you don't want to clean off her windshield for her. :teeth: Complete the scene by tying some Disney balloons to her car.

when's her birthday? I'm dying to know how she'll react.

I like the idea of buying her the coffeemaker and putting the tickets in the pot, I also like the idea of wrapping it in a bunch of boxes and having a huge scavenger hunt for her to find it.

So she'll be happy about the coffeemaker but she'll be kinda let down after all the hoopla to get to it .. like oh a coffeemaker. Then totally wait till she opens it up to try it out and let her come across the tickets herself as she is setting it up.

Her birthday isn't until August. I need to plan early because of her job. She books up very quickly, so I talked to her boss and asked her to make some fake bookings for the week of her birthday. She will be so shocked that I planned all of this and kept it a secret for so long.

I love scavenger hunts!!!! You could print off riddles to give her hints as to the next clue..with the final hint leading to the plane tickets!!! You could also call Disney and have a slipper dessert or the chocolate strawberry dessert with Mickey in a tux delivered to your room when you arrive...Disney will write "Happy Birthday" on the plate....just as an added surprise when you arrive!!!

Disney has some terrific coffee cups & there own packaged coffees--Disney Blend, too.

A quick search on /Disney Shopping Online did not bring up what I am refering to, but I know some DISers will let you know how to call WDW to purchase these items.
I saw the coffee & mugs even at HHI & they are all over WDW resort shops & parks

What time is your flight...would she have time to pack. Or do you trust yourself to pack for her?

I say find some way to tell her the AM you are leaving. Taking a drive to go to breakfast and go to the airport.

Why not just "wrap" a piece of your luggage and put the confirmation and tickets in it. My Aunt just surprised her husband with an Alaskan cruise and wrote it in a Birthday card...one minute he was just reading the nice words then "wow"!

Or if her birthday is before you go...thirty balloons or flowers with a card. Personally I would want sweet and romantic instead of something practical.

My husband did the exact for my 30th Birthday last year! He arranged for my time off from work and then had a scavanger hunt around our house and the last one said Pack Your bags -- we're going to DisneyWorld tomorrow! I could not believe it, as we were going on our normal vacation 3 weeks later, a 7 day Disney Cruise. We stayed at the Grand Floridian - lagoon view- it was very magical and I will always remember it! :cloud9: Your wife will love it- Have fun and good luck with the planning!

I surprised DW for our 10th anniversary. A few days before the trip, I gave her three wrapped boxes. Inspired by Let's Make a Deal, the first box contained the "gag" gift. Since we'd be there during the F&WF, I made fake concert tickets--Loverboy was playing on the nights we'd be there. The second box contained a piece of jewelry. The third box was the "we're going to WDW" surprise. I found a picture online of Flying Fish, our favorite WDW restaurant, and put it in an envelope, along with a "see if you can guess where we're having our anniversary dinner?" note. Along with the note, I wrote a few pages about everything I'd been up to behind her back and everything I had planned for our trip.

Mr Disney-
Maybe using fortune cookies?! :thumbsup2 Here is the link to how we used fortune cookies to announce our surprise trip to Disney. Definitely something you could do to surprise your wife!! http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1049847
ps I see you are from Cape Cod. Cool! We are from RI and have many wonderful memories of our lazy days on the Cape! (Yes, my user name suggests I am from PA-but that will be explained if you read our fortune cookie surprise posts. ;) )

I am looking at my copy of the Unoffical guide to Walt Disney World 2006 and why not buy her a copy of that with the tickets inside the cover and a special message written inside about the trip. Its a great souvenier as well as very helpful while you are there. Its a great book.

Whatever you decide to do, I have to say she is very lucky.

I hope you both have a safe and fun trip. We hope to hear all about it.
