Mr. and Mrs. Weak Sauce Go the Distance (a completed Disneymoon TR!)

Hi Rachel :wave2: I'm Katie. I've seen you around on the Dis and the "Disneymoon" in your TR title caught my eye this morning. I'm a big sucker for weddings and all the mushy gooshy stuff that goes along with it so I had to check it out!

I've only gotten through the wedding part of your report but loving it!! thanks for including all the story background, it was jun to read :goodvibes I'm a lot like you in my tastes. Although I loved planning my own wedding, I really tried to stay focused on the reason for it and not get caught up in all the fluff and wanted it to be fun and relaxed. I love the venues you choose (love the light and natural feel of it all!)

Looking forward to your Disney arrival!

(continued from previous post)

and then just a few moments later, howard snapped this picture of me! There was no way we were going to go straight to the magical express just in case that ride and check-in took a while. Like i said earlier, we were starving! We just wanted to eat! We knew we were going to eat at the airport anyway even if we did arrive on time. I got excited because i saw the food court!

video: our first meal in florida - chik-fil-a

if you watched the video, you heard that we were starting our trip in true sarah fashion! Our friend sarah, wdwgirl03 (the only diser we've met with ... Twice!), always starts her trip off with chik-fil-a! I've seen it so many times that i just knew we had to do the same! The closest one to where we live is actually in new jersey, and we don't really make trips to nj just for chik-fil-a. I see it a lot driving down to florida, but we never stop there even though we totally should! I mean, wendy's restaurants are everywhere. Gotta eat what you don't have as often back at home!

65.jpg

i knew that i wanted chicken nuggets because i am a dipper. That's the other thing you need to know about me. I love ride vehicles on their tracks, and i love dipping my food! Seriously, i won't want to eat meat because i'm not that big of a fan, but if you give me something to dip it in, i'm all for it. Case in point? 'ohana. All that meat on skewers? Yuck. Serve it with 3 dipping sauces? Yahoo! Oh man, now i'm in the mood for 'ohana. I digress.

66.jpg

we ordered a sprite to share becaue we decided that any time we were having fried food, we'd have a soda so that i wouldn't get sick. What is it with soda and fried food? It just works so well together! Without it, i'd feel all greasy inside, and then i'd end up having tummy trouble or nausea later on. Ahhh, soda. I can't have coke though, and that's what the person gave us. Whoops! Howard pointed it out, and we got a new one. I was wondering what the guy was going to do with the coke, but he just poured it into his cup or something and drank it. I was happy that it wasn't going to be wasted.

67.jpg

while we were waiting for our food, i took a picture of our carry-on luggage. We put the tag for akl with howard's name on the bag we checked in, and the plan was to save mine for scrapbooking or something since this disneymoon was the first thing that had my maiden and new last name on it! When we about to the board the plane, the lady at the desk said we were going to have to check it in because there wasn't room on the plane, so we asked if we should put the tag on it. It ended up that we put it on because we thought we had to give it in, but the guy taking the strollers and such closer to the entrance of the plane told us that we should see if there was room and to bring it back if not. Thankfully, we were able to fit it in our overhead compartment without a problem. Too bad though; i would've liked to have kept that tag!

68-edit.jpg

it's okay though. Tag or no tag, i was still rachel ninja-weird!

69.jpg

where's my food? I'm hungry!

70.jpg

okay, so you know how i said that i have a thing for ride vehicles on tracks and try to get pictures of it? Howard's thing is light fixtures. I don't quite know why. I guess it's because disney takes the time to have amazing light fixtures that most guests probably don't notice. A lot of the times he just takes them really quickly though since we're on the move. It's not like he stops to compose a certain shot (haha, at least not if i'm waiting for him).

71.jpg

we finally had our food and were ready to nom it all!

72.jpg

howard ordered a chicken sandwich. I wouldn't have minded that as long as i could also get some dip with it too, haha. Even with sandwiches, i like dipping as opposed to putting the sauce on the sandwich itself. I'm the kind of person who dips her cheeseburgers into the ketchup that was poured onto the plate.

73.jpg

look at that goodness! So different than the processed stuff that makes up mcdonald's chicken mcnuggets. Not to say i don't eat that once in a blue moon with plenty of sweet and sour sauce though ...

74.jpg

is it just me or do waffle fries just seem more wholesome? I don't feel as guilty eating them, as if they're a little healthier than normal fries, haha.

75.jpg

and what dip did i choose? Honey mustard! Yum! I don't really stray far from the typical barbecue, honey mustard, or sweet and sour choices. They're just so classic and so delicious! This one was particularly good. It had more of a mustard taste to it as opposed to the wendy's sauce. I like to think myself a sauce connoisseur. And by connoisseur, i mean "weird-girl-who-can-go-on-and-on-about-sauce-in-a-tr-about-wdw." if you read "delicious indeed," you'll remember i purposely ordered a meal from chicken now just because they had a special sauce. Um, should i move on?

76.jpg

a ring picture! My first chik-fil-a meal married!

77.jpg

i like it when restaurants provide reading material. Of course, i didn't read it until just before i typed this sentence.

78.jpg

i didn't finish all my delicious nuggets because i was feeling satisfied. I didn't want to be overstuffed before the magical express experience. Don't worry; i don't like letting food go to waste, so i took those bad boys with me for a snack later on! No more dawdling though! With our stomachs filled, we were ready to move one step closer to our destination!

jafar!!!

I love going to Chick-fil-a! It's one of my favorite restaurants to eat at. Plus I love getting the cookies & cream milkshake too! Yum! Love reading your TR! Can't wait to read more. I have been thinking of starting at PTR for our Disneymoon next month! :) We'll see if that happens.

No more lurking for me. I've finally registered and subscribed to my first thread. Very entertaining reading. It looks like you guys are a lot of fun which is what is all about!

Here's the problem with reading trip reports. How is it that everyone seems to have fun doing things like arriving at the airport, riding the fake monorail and grabbing some food? You TR'ers are really good at either finding fun in the little moments or writing in a way to make the rest of us mere mortals envious that you got delayed at the airport and got to hang out there for 2 hours! :rotfl:

Regardless, I'm very much enjoying your trip report.

So I saw in my subscriptions you updated with the date 7/6 and I'm like it's not the 6th yet...then I remembered you guys are an hour ahead of us. haha

WOO HOO, you made it to Orlando!!! This update was very exciting! I just love that feeling of first arriving at MCO and getting on the fake monorail. :dance3::cool1::goodvibes As for the flight to Disneyland-ugh, that is a long one. Especially since the 2 times we've gone we've had to fly to Minneapolis and THEN to California.

And YAY Chick-Fil-A! You are right, good thing it wasn't a Sunday-that would've been sad. Like you said, you have to eat what you don't have at home on vacation. Aww man, I could really go for some of those nuggets right now. Yum!

Haha, yeah, I've been trying to update close to 12am. I'm sitting here at my computer itching to just post what I already typed so I can go to sleep!

I loved having the WHOLE vacation ahead of us! It was especially awesome since it was our longest trip EVER since our past trips were always only 5 days long (excluding travel time in the car) due to school breaks. I don't know how in the world I'm going to deal with a flight to California, but I REALLY want to go to DLR, and Howard is dying to see Cars Land!

There were so many options at the food court that we don't have as often near me, like Quiznos! But I was so set on getting Chik-Fil-A that there was no need to decide. It was especially great that there was no one on line when we first got there so we could get our yummy food sooner!

Jafar? I need to get out a pencil and paper for these!

I love Chik Fil A, but we don't have any around where I live either. And, I married a dipper, so I understand :thumbsup2

I missed the Gilmore Girls reference before, but I LOVE that show. I watch the reruns on ABC Family all the time. Bunheads is pretty good- not as good as GG -but Kelly Bishop is in it and she's always flawless.

Loved the update, looking forward to more!

YAY, you got another weak sauce point! It was Jafar!

Haha, Howard had to learn what it was like to marry a dipper. When we get ketchup or cheese sauce at WDW, I need a ton of those little cups!

I have all the seasons of Gilmore Girls on DVD. I was obsessed and bought them right away! I actually used to record them on VHS too. I have so much of the dialogue memorized because I have it playing in the background when I'm cleaning and such since the best part of the show is the writing!

Yay for Chic-Fil-A!!! :dance3: I eat it WAY more than I should :scratchin (pretend this is the rolling eyes, whistling smiley that I'm too lazy to click on [More] to find, it used to be on the main list to the right!). By the way, if you like Sweet and Sour sauce you should totally try Polynesian sauce at Chic-Fil-A. It's delicious! It's the only sauce I use there now (and I, too, am a dipper. All of my favorite foods have a lot of hand involvement :lmao:).

Way to have restraint (and the forethought!) not to run to Magical Express! I have no patience and would have run there, only to be dying of starvation for the next two hours before I could get somewhere for food.

HAHA, I loved your little comment about the smiley. I wish I could have Chik-Fil-A a lot more often. It IS healthier than McD's, right? Mmm, I didn't think of any other options. I really want to try the Polynesian sauce now! Mmm, those nuggets seem like they'll work with anything!

I knew that Magical Express could be long depending on the order of the drop-offs, and I just couldn't risk staying hungry for that long! Haha, I was led by my stomach.

I about died laughing reading this! So true! I hate people watching me sleep and I know if someone pulled one of those bad boys out and was facing me while they slept, I would spend the whole flight trying not to stare at him/her.

And you just know we'd have to get PLENTY of pictures of that person too!

I got Jafar.

I LOVE dipping food too! It is THE reason to go to O'Hana...ah so many choices! :upsidedow When we drive down, we try to avoid places that we have back home too, so we do stop at a Chic-fil-a every now and then...it is pretty good! I remember when you wrote about eating at Cracker Barrel in one of your other TRs--it looked so good that we stopped there when we were driving down for our Disneymoon, now we eat breakfast at Cracker Barrel on every trip, so for that, I thank you! :flower3:

Alright, your bellies are full of chicken-y goodness...off to Disney! Looking forward to more, your TR is like my morning paper. :goodvibes

Yay, Jafar is the correct answer!

We went to 'Ohana in Feb 2011, and I decided not to return for a while since there are so many other restaurants to try, but now I'm wishing we scheduled it for our Disneymoon because it was just SO good! I loved the salad, the noodles, the shrimp, and the pork! I dipped EVERYTHING in that sauce!

Mmm, I'm glad you like Cracker Barrel! I'm hoping to get some this weekend on our drive back from our church's retreat site. I can almost taste those dumplins!

Haha, I like that you said the TR is like your morning paper. I purposely post at 12am-ish or so because I want to have just one post per day so I'm sitting here eager to put up my next update!

I totally agree about eating where you don't have at home. (Does that sentence even make sense?). We try to eat at familure, yet unique places while traveling.

My favorite Chick-fil-a dipping sauce is the Polynesian. It is sweet but tastes good with chicken and fries. Plus it reminds be of the Polynesian Resort at WDW!:)

Haha, yes, it makes sense. I think that's why it's so funny when I go to Florida with my parents, and they want to eat at Olive Garden or Checkers! I'm hoping to one day try Bojangles because that's something down south that we don't have up here in NY!

Mmm, you're the second one to mention the Polynesian sauce! This seems like something I really need to try!

Hi Rachel :wave2: I'm Katie. I've seen you around on the Dis and the "Disneymoon" in your TR title caught my eye this morning. I'm a big sucker for weddings and all the mushy gooshy stuff that goes along with it so I had to check it out!

Looking forward to your Disney arrival!

Hi Katie! I think I've read one of your trip reports before, but I was probably just lurking! I'm glad you're here and enjoying what I have so far! Haha, I like how you called the wedding stuff "fluff" because that's really the perfect word for it! I'm just so glad I was able to choose the more natural venues so that I didn't have to deal with as much fluff because the place was pretty enough on its own!

Yup, you got it right!

Mmm, that sounds like a good milkshake! Unfortunately, being lactose intolerant means that we can't enjoy the delightfulness of milkshakes! Your DISNEYMOON is so SOON!!!

No more lurking for me. I've finally registered and subscribed to my first thread. Very entertaining reading. It looks like you guys are a lot of fun which is what is all about!

WOW, that's awesome that you joined and subscribed! You won't regret it; it's so awesome being PART of the DIS community! Happy you jumped on board with my TR!

Here's the problem with reading trip reports. How is it that everyone seems to have fun doing things like arriving at the airport, riding the fake monorail and grabbing some food? HAHA, your comment made me laugh out loud! You too could one day be delayed at the airport! Just keep hoping, haha. I'm so glad you're enjoying the TR!

You can explore an old mine, shoot fake guns, and bounce on a barrel bridge if you're on __ __ __ / __ __ __ __ __ __ / __ __ __ __ __ __.

And the mystery character is ... __ __ __ __!

Mmmm. I could go for some chick-fil-a! Now let's get a move on to WDW already!

My guess for Character Scrambler 6: Troy

Edited to add: Drat! Now I have 'You are the music in me' stuck in my head!

Haha now that I've frantically posted my answer to the game, I'm ready to comment on your updates! :thumbsup2

I've only flown into Orlando a couple of times, so I've only had a few chances to ride the Fakeorail, but it's always really exciting! That is, of course, unless you're leaving Disney. Then it just stinks.

I can't imagine NOT living near a Chik-fil-a! They're all over the place here in NC. I eat there constantly. They have amazing breakfast. They make these little things called chicken minis, that are basically just chicken nuggets on these tiny sweet rolls. YUM. And as far as dipping sauce goes, I LOVE the honey roasted barbecue sauce! It's SO delicious!

Yay! Now that your bellies are full I can't wait to see where you head next!

I get to play! My guess for Character Scrambler #6 is Dory.

Somebody already guessed Edmund for #5, though please enlighten me as to who that is. Color me sheepish.

We eat at Chick-fil-A more often than we should. There is one right next door to the school where I work. You can smell it as soon as you walk outside, it is so hard to resist. It was really hard when the owners son attended my school. He was always bringing in nugget trays and free coupons. I love the honey mustard dip also. My favorite thing to do ,that is really gross if you think about it, is dipping my nuggets into their coleslaw.

I think character 6 is Troy.

I like looking at SkyMall too! There are so many weird things in there. Did you find a YouTube video of someone using those skates? I think that screen was called Arts & Crafts because it could have been made in the "Arts & Crafts" style. I couldn't see a picture of it, so I don't know. I think Frank Lloyd Wright and the Craftsman style are also examples of Arts & Craft style.

I never noticed the cool features of the monorail at the airport. You're right--it does look like Tron!

I love Chik-fil-a too. When I was kid growing up in Alabama, they were only at the mall. Their meals came in a little box that looked like a chicken house. Chik-fil-a had cute little boxes before McDonald's had their Happy Meal boxes. I wish I could open a Chik-fil-a franchise (or a Earl of Sandwich) in the small town where I used to teach. We have one near my home, and they have really made it a community event to go there. Tuesday night is family night. They have a balloon man and arts and crafts for the kids. Each Saturday, they have a car show. It kind of makes me feel like I'm at Arnold's in Happy Days. :) I wish everyone had a Chik-fil-a in their town that does fun stuff.

I can't wait to read to more about your trip and see all the great pics Howard and you take!

Mmmmm I have never been to Chick Fil A as I don't believe we have them in Canada but I always seem them on people's TR"s and it always looks so good.

Yay for finally arriving in Orlando, and for getting to ride the MCO monorail.

Can't wait to hear about your WDW arrival:goodvibes

For Character Scramble #5, I think it's Edmund!

YAY Joni for getting a weak sauce point!

Haha now that I've frantically posted my answer to the game, I'm ready to comment on your updates! :thumbsup2

Haha, I was hoping you'd be able to get a round soon because I know just how much you liked playing the game on the other PTR!

Oh wow, the chicken minis sound really good! I just checked out the website, and they have a picture of the chicken minis. Mmm, I need a stop really soon! Mmm, I didn't know there were that many other sauce options! What's the Chik-Fil-A sauce?!? I just saw that there too! I NEED TO GO BACK!

I get to play! My guess for Character Scrambler #6 is Dory.

Somebody already guessed Edmund for #5, though please enlighten me as to who that is. Color me sheepish.

Good try; you were just off by one letter! Haha, Edmund is from Chronicles of Narnia. He's the younger brother - Edmund Pevensie! He and Peter are two of my favorite live action Disney stars.

Ooo, I'd be thrilled if there was one right next to my school! I could try all those sauces! Haha, that must've been so cool to have the owner's son there with all those free coupons! I wonder if he ever got sick of having so much chicken or relished the fact that he could have it all the time! And I don't think dipping nuggets in coleslaw is weird at all. Coleslaw really works on things! I love it on pulled pork or brisket sandwiches. I eat it with fried fish too. The cool, crunchy aspect of slaw really works!

I think character 6 is Troy.

Yup, it is Troy! I love HSM3, so I had to put it in there!

OHHH, that makes SO MUCH MORE SENSE!!! I just Googled Arts and Crafts style. I didn't even know that existed!!! Haha, learn something new every day! Thanks for enlightening me so that in the future, I don't sound like such a dodo!

That sounds like such a fun Chik-Fil-A! We don't really have anything fun like that where I live. It's so commercialized, and it's clearly city-life even though I'm in the suburbs and not exactly in Manhattan. I don't think many places could have town gatherings because people would just be everywhere. I would very much like to live in an area that is more town centered.

Yeah, the food is really good! I don't know that it's like, life-changing like ... um, Sanaa (greatest meal EVER for us!), but it was super yummy. We're so used to the more processed nuggets and chicken products that to have a much fresher tasting chicken meal was a delight!

Joining in as well! (though not games, because I am wretchedly competitive and not on the Disboards enough to perform ~up to standard).

Your wedding looks lovely! I love the reception part of weddings (because I love throwing parties and when will I get to have such a massive party??) but the ceremony part of weddings always seems so.. public? idk, I'd rather have a private ceremony/public reception (... which is pretty much an elopement. Ooops).

Honey Bunches of Oats are awesome. I feel like they've changed the recipe some but they're still really good!

I like the videos! I saw in a wedding planning journal that, at the end of their disneymoon, one couple recorded a video of them discussing their disney wedding/disney moon and I thought that sounded adorable. And a really great (cheap) souvenir.

The best Chik-Fil-A sauce is totally the special sauce! And it's totally (slightly) healthier there because they use peanut oil. Or at least that's what I tell myself; we go there too often because my boyfriend is always homesick for Southern food. Delicious. If you get a kid's meal, you can get free ice cream!!

Welcome! Haha, I understand the competitive part. When another DISer had a game posted every Saturday, I was obsessively refreshing the page all day long until the round was up!

Thank you! I agree. The ceremony part is way too public for me. I feel like our vows had to be written to be personal but also in a way that would be fitting for the audience that was there.

Hmm, I think you're right about the changed recipe! It used to be different when I was a kid. The flakes were different then too, I think.

If I could edit, I'd like to edit all of the random videos to be one, but I don't know how to do that (nor do I have the creativity to do that). My next splurge in the future will be a video camera. I think the stabilization on a video camera will be better. Plus, my digi camera gets really hot after a while of filming, and it makes the battery blink and then it shuts down. This is when I record long things like Lights, Motor, Action.

Mmm, I JUST saw the special sauce on the website before, and I'm so curious as to what it is! Mmm, so many options. Now I'm really itching to go back! Haha, I like the free ice cream thing too except for the fact that my DH and I are both lactose intolerant (not severely like we can't have food that has dairy in it, but things like ice cream, yogurt, and cream cheese do me in although sometimes I sneak a little!).

Caught up on the Disney start portion of your TR...girl you crack me up!! :lmao:

How did you ever manage a May wedding as a teacher?? Hubby and I were married May 17 and when I told a co-worker when our anniversary was this spring, she asked how 2 teachers ever planned a spring wedding! (still in college, the semester was already over of course)

I thought your comment about the parent at the airport asking their kids if they wanted a smoothie was funny! My parents must have some chinese in them because we would NEVER have been offered something like that (they might have pointed us toward the nearest water fountain). My hubby is actually the first person in my life to tell me it's OK to treat myself if I want, although sometimes it still drives me crazy how quickly he will say yes to treats when the boys ask. This week we stopped at Hobby Lobby because we had a picture that needed to be matted and framed. He sort of hesitated when the guy said it would be $50 (despite the fact HE was the one who insisted we needed it and it can't be hung unframed!!). Then he turns around and spends $10 on candy and couple cheapo...read, will break right away...toys for the kids without thinking twice.

You don't know Big Bang Theory????? You really need to check it out...my favorite show these days!

I'm a dipper too but am a sucker for buffalo sauce when it's an option!

I'm excited for your arrival on Disney property!! (I see I'm going to have to keep on top of you to score any points since I'm joining you late!)

AWESOME TR! Jafar is the character! :)

Yup, one of the rounds was Jafar! New round of Cropped will be posted soon!

I'm happy you're enjoying it so much!

Initially, we were going to do a February wedding so that we could go on our honeymoon during the Presidents' Week vacation. Then my dad said it'd be too cold, so we were going to do the end of March so that we'd have the Easter week vacation to go on our honeymoon. My dad said that based on our location, we should just push it back more so that everything would be in bloom (it would've been cheaper in the winter months since there'd be a severe shortage of green!). There was no way we wanted to have it in the summer because it'd be too hot, and Howard is a furnace. May was the only month that my uncle who works in China could come back for the wedding since he had a trade show during the other times. This was the one uncle I really wanted there (his house in NY is right next to mine), so it was easily determined for us based on availability. Having to plan everything while teaching was another story! We struggled, and I was so stressed because during the weekends, I knew I had to do wedding stuff, but I also had to grade and plan for the following week! I wouldn't recommend it at all, haha.

My husband is the same way! When we go out to eat, I ask him if it's okay to order a salad. Like at Outback, I love the bleu cheese chopped salad. When I was with my family, my mom and I would occasionally split one, or one of us would change our side to the salad. But with Howard, he lets me have that AND the side from my entree! Haha, I know it sounds so silly, but it's such a luxury. We are very big on saving money and being frugal, but there are times that we know it's silly to hold on to money. That's why once in a while, we'll order a soda at a restaurant. Haha, normally we never do; it's usually just water cuz it's free!

Ooo, I wish we had a Hobby Lobby here! We have Michaels, AC Moore, and Joann, but I always hear about fellow crafters going to Hobby Lobby, and I wish I had that option! But anyway, I think I'd be a little upset about the wasted $10. If my kid wanted something for a LONG time that was $10, then I'm all for it. My younger brother was raised so differently than my older brother and me. When he was younger, we had so many dollar stores around, even in the mall. That meant he could get a toy for "just" a $1. I used to say to my mom, "If he gets a toy each time, that's a lot of dollars added up! It still ends up being more than the like, one toy Jonathan [older bro] and I would ask for each year!" We also learned how to save our money for a long time to get what we wanted. When I finally saved up enough money for the $30 Polly Pocket mansion, I didn't want to buy it because it had taken me so long to save it. The thing that took me a while to save for was my flute in 4th grade, which was like, $200. Even though I had my grandparents help me out with like, $50, my mom wanted me to make sure I would stick with the flute throughout elementary + JHS + HS. If I had to buy it myself, it was kind of a guarantee for her, and she didn't have to pay for it! My younger brother is part of a totally different generation! I want to teach our kids to save money for things they really want but to also be able to enjoy spending a little here and there on special occasion snacks or souvenirs like at WDW.

Wow, I totally just rambled on and on ... sorry!

Alas, Big Bang Theory is not on Netflix, which is where I watch my TV shows (that and Hulu if I'm caught up to date). Hopefully, they'll have it there soon!

I really like buffalo sauce stuff too because it works so well with bleu cheese (one of my favorite things, the moldier the better!). Unfortunately, I have something called Barrett's Esophagus along with acid reflux, so I'm supposed to stay away from spicy things.

New rounds posted after this!
