MP3 players? Can you use them?

I was reading the WDW marathon info and it says earphones are not allowed . . . are they serious? Do they allow runners/walkers to wear MP3 players during the races? I can't imagine doing it without mine.

I don't know if they enforce it strictly, but I know that some other races don't allow you to use them either. I guess the concern is that since it's such a crowded race, it might be a safety issue . I know that there is a lot going on during the race...music, activity, etc. I usually run with my Ipod for training but can't wait to experience all that goes on during the Disney marathon , so I personally wouldn't wear them.

I'm sure one of the experienced WDW marathoners can let you know the deal with the headphones. I'm just guessing here LOL!

They discourage them so they are not liable if something happens to you because you didn't hear something important. However, DH and I both used our Ipods during the WDW marathon this year. We either paused them or turned them down when we were in the parks and didn't want to miss anything. There are definitely times, though, when there is nothing, and you'll be glad to have the tunes. It's not like Chicago, and other marathons, when there are literally fans yelling the entire 26.2 miles.

I believe there was a change in policy this year, where Disney went from saying they went "not allowed" to "discouraged." I did see quite a few people using them on course.

My personal experience this year was a bit different. I love my iPod for training runs. It's helps a great deal. For the race, I had it in my beltpack, but never made an appearance. Listening to the crowds, talking with and encouraging your fellow runners along the course was a integral part of the race experience for me.
