MP3 player Apple Itunes question...

DH and I have an ipod, which we love. Out son has a Sears brand MP3 player.

One of the reasons we love our ipod is because of the ease of downloading songs to it. It seems like his cheapo MP3 player is a PITA to transfer and download songs onto, compared to the Ipod shuffle that we have.

We are thinking of getting our son an Apple brand of ipod now.

Would we be able to put purchased songs onto his ipod, as well as our ipod? Or is each song only available for one ipod? And is it hard to juggle Apple accounts with multiple ipods?

I am just looking at an inexpensive $<50 shuffle or something for him, like what DH and I share.

Thanks!

Yes, but iTunes purchased songs can only be put on 5 devices in a lifetime, so plan accordingly.

That's fine!

I think that DS's will be mostly used for his cd's, as he has quite a cd collection. I am only hoping that I can find an inexpensive ipod that can hold a decent amount of songs for him at the price I want to spend.

I'm pretty sure it's 5 per account, so if you all have a different account (like my kids and I do), you should be fine. :)

Might just be your type of MP3 player...I have a Sansa MP3 player (we actually have multiple in the family) and there's nothing easier then dragging and dropping the songs on their by using windows media player.

It take seconds a most to get a song from the PC to player.

I couldn't imagine a more painful way to get songs onto an MP3 player than the nightmare Apple requires you to use. Are you using software for the Sears MP3 player that comes with it, because that may be your problem. It should be as simple as drag and drop to load songs without an extra software required. iTunes is evil.

There was no software.

It was a really cheap mp3 player - I think I paid $20 for it.

Yeah, 'cause hitting "buy it now" and plugging your ipod in takes forever. :rotfl:

What about stuff you've already bought pre-Ipod days? This is the reason I hesitate to get sucked in the the Apple universe. I have tons and tons of music on CD, ripped from CD, purchased through Amazon, copied from vinyl even. Who knows where it all came from. But I want it ALL on whatever MP3 player I'm using. I don't just want stuff that I'm forced to buy from ITunes. Does anyone else have this concern? I'm sticking with my Sansa til I'm sure my music is mine to do with what I please.

There are 3 iPods between my kids and I, and all the music is on my computer. It's no problem at all to separate it out and get everyone's music on the right machine. It's just a matter of creating separate playlists for all of us which took just a few minutes. My kids have some of the same songs on theirs.

We have stuff on our ipod that is from cd's. That's how I got all of the Greenday songs on it.
:)

Right now I am leaning towards this one for DS, can anyone give me the thumbs up??

I asked him earlier and he prefers a non-ipod brand that is fancier rather than a very basic ipod brand (read : ipod shuffle).

Sansas are wonderful! Don't use the software they provide (if they even do) for transferring music. Just plug it in and it shows up as a drive. Drag and drop. Beautiful!

Oh and you can add more memory with a mini-SD card. How cool is that?

I refuse pay music from itunes becasue of the software. I love my sansa mp3 player to death. The drag and drop is awesome. You don't even have to use windows media player either.

I have tons of music on my iPod from CD's. :confused3

With DH's okay, I got him the one I linked to.

I had to get "permission" as I promised DH I was done shopping.

Now, do I upload all of his cd's onto it before I give it to him, or do I give it to him and let him choose the songs/cd's he wants uploaded to it?

Hmmm, tough call. I'd be inclined to put the CD's on you already have (since you know he likes that music LOL) and then let him pick out other songs online to download after he receives it. :)
