Hello!

I'm getting ready to move to Orlando in the 1st of next month, and I'm looking for the most affordable way to get my stuff from where I live (Savannah, GA) to my new home. Most movers I've quoted so far have asked for upwards to $1000... but my budget for this only goes as far up as around $500 :/ do any of you guys know of a mover that will be able to get my stuff there reliably and within budget?

Any other tips that any of you guys can offer would be fantastic. Thanks! :>

Only way I know of to possibly get it down that low would be to rent a U-Haul and move it yourself. We moved using PODS to a location about an hour away and we still spent about $500, and that was with us packing and unloading the POD.

I'd say even renting a U-Haul and doing it all yourself might cost more than $500.

There are very few inexpensive ways to move, and doing a move across state lines with a bargain basement moving company is a NIGHTMARE. I took the lowest bidder when I moved from Delaware to NYC and they showed up 2 days late, lost a bunch of my stuff for over a week, broke some of my furniture, and demanded more money when it was all over. Not worth it at all.

(When I moved from NYC to Florida, I abandoned all my furniture and crammed everything I could carry into my Toyota hatchback, drove it to DC, and put it on the Auto Train for the rest of the trip - and even that whole trip cost me a little over $500.)

Useful information haha thanks... I do have another question for anyone who might know, does anyone know the policy about weight stops in Florida?

Have you priced out ABF U-Pack? They have trailers that you load yourself and also relo-cube thingys you can load. I have not used them-however, I am currently planning to for our move to Fl hopefully this year.

Like people have said, you are going to have to move it yourself to stay in that budget. We paid about $500 to have our stuff moved across town.

The reason a company cannot do it for less than around $1000 or so is because they will have to charge you for the drive time as well. Renting your own U-Haul will probably be the cheapest. You can also hire movers at either end for a couple of hours should you need help moving large items.

I'm in the process of a big move. From California to Georgia. As a previous poster mentioned, the cheapest mover isn't always the best. My guess would be a POD container, which means you pack and unload yourself or a U -haul. How much stuff do you have? A houseful or much less? I can give you the prices we'll be paying to give you an idea, but remember, this is cross country. To de-clutter house we got a POD container. Total cost (including delivery and we increased insurance value) was just over $5000. The rest of our house will cost $9200, the movers are packing large items like bedroom furniture, couches, etc. All other items will be packed by us. If you don't pack anything yourself, your move will be a lot more expensive. I've also been told by our movers prices will increase (at least 10%) after May 10th because schools will be moving out and that's their busy season. Good luck.

Just moved peeps to Florida. Renting a 20 foot U haul. For one way 3 days rental was $295. (2 days same price) Came with 1/2 tank gas. Had to buy 23 gallons to fill it before getting on the interstate. Drive under 4 hours

Fit one studio apartment and a storage apartment. Picked up u haul at 10am started packing quickly ate 10 minute lunch. Maybe stopped for supper at 6pm. And was done at that time for that day.

4 of us packed it. Most of it was already packed in totes. And boxes. Packed most of it in one day. Packed Plants and electronic the next morning and things sensitive to temp. And then Drove.

4 of us Unpacked the boxes into the correct area. Kitchen, dining room, storage room.
And returned the rental. Did not truely unpack the individual boxes into cabinets and such.

I don’t think $500 would work. As we worked for free.
