Moving to JAX

Don't forget to look in the Callahan area. Our schools are great, small town living, close to the big city entertainment.I was born and raised in Jacksonville, but moved to Callahan when my kids were coming out of elementary school. The commute to Cecil would be pretty easy.

We live in Oakleaf and love it. Your husband will love the commute, Cecil fields is just up the road. The schools are all new, and as far as I know all A Rated. Lots of "Kid" things to do, sport wise, and parks. Fleming Island is nice, but I am not sure he'd want that commute everyday, busy back roads, or busy Highway between here and there.

Publix is where we mostly shop, although we do hit the farmer's market, and butcher shops to help out.

One word of warning, no state tax means just means they will get it from you somewhere else. Be ready for sticker shock when you go to the BMV to get your DL and Plates. For DH and I to switch to FL DL and title/plate two vehicles it cost just a bit over $1,000! :scared1:
 They hit you hard up front, don't they. Our two cars were near $800...the tag fee is huge but it's a one time deal, too, providing you don't want new tags.
Yes they tack on a $250 or so first time registration fee if you are out of state...but I think they waive it for the military??

They should, shouldn't they? I don't think you have to register your car if you're military unless your current reg is expiring.

*****
I'm on Fleming Island. We moved here from Charleston, SC this past summer and we all really like it a lot. My kids are in one of the elementary schools and are happy. I've heard really good things about the Jr. High but have yet to experience it first hand. I know there are lots of houses available for rent but the two condo/apartment communities fill up fast. Feel free to PM me if you have specific questions about the area...I'd be happy to help. Oh, and fair warning....the cost of water in the state is outrageous. Wherever you decide to live, be sure to ask ahead of time about CDD fees and if HOAs have the public water usage thrown into your personal bill. My water bill each month will never be less than $78 because of the neighborhood association passing along fees
