Moving To Florida

We'll be moving to Florida in the next year and plan to keep our DVC membership. We'll be living in Mt. Dora (about 40 minutes from WDW) and the thought of just boping over to WDW at anytime is attractive. Not counting the busy weeks (Christmas, Easter, Spring Break...) how possible is it to get a DVC room for a night or so, mid-week, on the spur of the moment? Thanks.

Isn't there a rule that mid-week rentals to nothern transplants could only be secured when an equal or greater value room was booked as a gift to a shivering New Englander?

Congrats! We smartened up 2 years ago, and left NH for FL... I'm not a DVC'er, but had to chime in my congratulations when I saw the title of your post.

Believe it or not, we've been here 2 years (only 60 miles from the Mouse), and haven't had time to get to WDW yet... just got AP's and will be there Sunday... FINALLY!!!!!!

Well, since I am NOT jealous (Florida? Who'd want to move to Florida?!)...



I have in past managed to book OKW and BWV very last minute on either AP rates or by renting points (haven't yet made the plunge to buy DVC, but planning on it shortly!) I usually book 1-3 weeks out, in low season, but sometimes peak season too. My AP rates were often the day before, and once at BWV from the lobby phone for same day arrival.

So I don't know if I am of any help, but it looks like you needed someone to chime in and say that they weren't jealous!

It is VERY possible - especially if you're flexible with your resort choice.

We've called "day of" and been able to get a room!

I'm jealous of you in MT. DORA - antique heaven!! You'll enjoy that area!

Jealousy is such an ugly emotion.

To answer your question...I would imagine it's quite possible as long as you are not super fussy about which resort.I could actually see you having a ball trying out this one and that one...I love spur of the moment.

The most spur of the moment we ever booked was 3 weeks before the trip. But as one of the "shivering New Englanders" I needed a bit of time to make flight arrangement too!

Okay...maybe a little. Mt. Dora is lovely.

The problem is, you will soon learn that there are actually other things to do here in Florida .

I am jealous & i am not jealous

jealous it would be great just to pop in at wdw and stay a few nights here and there, just remember you do it to many times and you will need to ADD ON

not jealous i hate to pack needless to say pack up the whole house and move


i would do it in a minute ( i would sell everything , not my dvc of course ,even the dogs, ok maybe not the dogs and get on a plane and start all over)

We have had no problem calling the week of and getting the resort we wanted. I have never tried it the day of or during premier season. Enjoy your new home.

We live an hour and a half away and when DH asks me what I would like to do for a special date I always tell him, "Jellyrolls!" We have booked nights at the Boardwalk a day before we drove over with no problem. These were Saturday nights, so I would think a week night would be even easier.

Isn't it a crime in the state of FL to not go there within a couple of months of moving there? Kind of like registering your car, getting your license, making the visit as residents.......

This just doesn't sound right........
