Hey everyone! Well, I did it! I got my B.S. in psychology and got a temp job at a good company nearby. DH will be going on deployment next week, but when he gets back in December we'll be moving to Jacksonville, FL.... That's 3 hrs from WDW!

We are planning to drive to WDW sometime next spring. For any Florida residents, do you usually stay on or offsite? And for anyone who lives in our around Jax, tell me how it is! We are on the waiting list for an apartment complex called the Mayfaire off of Hodges Blvd. that's all I really know. Thanks for your help!

I am nowhere near Florida, but I wanted to say "Congratulations" I am sure you're very exited! :)

Best wishes to you, Jenny. Have no doubt you'll enjoy Florida living!

When you come down to WDW for a visit, I would recommend staying on site.

Have a wonderful time. :goodvibes

Congrats Jenny! And and early welcome to my area of the world. I just moved back to Jax 10 mos. ago. Will your DH be stationed at Mayport? I am just down the road from there.
PM me with any questions you may have.

Also, I am fortunate to have a sister that lives 35 minutes from WDW and another that lives approx 1 hr so I can stay with them for spur of the moment trips. But, I still like to stay on site when I can. Fl resident and AP rates really help.

Good luck on your move.

My dream come true! I hope you LOVE it there.

Hi and welcome to FL:D

I've lived in FL since I was 6 and I've never been to Jacksonville.

The best part will be the FL resident rates. You can get rates as low as $50 per night at the value resorts (Pop Century and All Stars). That promo price was actually for FL residents that also had a Disney VISA card. So get one of those.
And for park passes- the FL resident Play 4 for $109 that you could later upgrade to an annual pass. The Play 4 usually first becomes available in Jan. of every year and you have until June to upgrade it. Any 4 days (doesn't have to be consecutive days) and you can park hop!

That is SO awesome! Is there a Navy base there, or will you be a part of MacDill? We're planning on begging for MacDill next assignment - I want to be warm and near Disney!!

Welcome to my hometown. Will he be stationed at Mayport or NAS Jax? PM me for any info that you need. I have lived here all my life. Some parts of town I know well, some parts I don't. I forgot to congratulate you on your B.S. in Psychology.

Nice to see you here on the board again, Jenny. And as we have said back and forth, you do need to get to a Chicago meet before you guys leave, we should have one, maybe two more before then.

Again, congratulations on your degree, I know how dedicated you have been for that, a lot of sacrifice. And so nice to see the three of you here, what a wonderful picture of you all. And Trinity as cute as ever.

Bets wishes for you all in the months ahead.

Congratulations on you BS in psychology and on moving to FL! JAX is the area I would go to during the summers while I was growing up (yes, it was JAX and I didn't get to WDW until I was 12). We always had great times at the beaches and on day trips to St. Augustine. It's a perfect time to move away from Chicago's cold weather.
Best wishes to you and your beautiful family.

congrats on your degree and moving to FL! My DH was stationed in JAX about 8 years ago. We were not stationed at Mayport, but at the other base (forgot the name). I loved JAX and would love to move back there. You can contact the housing dept and they can help you with information and maybe give you a phone number of an ombunsman to help you. Good luck and I know you will love Jax.

Yay! Warm weather for you and three hours from WDW, although it CAN be 2 1/2. My dear friend, who always meets us at WDW lives in Jax and it takes her 2 1/2. She is not a speed demon, lol.

She lives in apartments on Southside Blvd., right by the Avenues. They've been there 8 years and love the community.

Good luck!

Suzanne

Thanks everyone for your kind words! It means a lot :D

DH has been stationed at Mayport for the past 1 1/2 yrs while I've been finishing up school here in Chicago. When he gets back from deployment his ship is supposed to be in Mayport for another 6 months or so, and then we're supposed to move to VA. But that's not for certain, we may get to stay in Jax. (Crossing our fingers!)

I will definitely look into staying onsite, I totally overlooked FL resident rates! I have never heard of the Play 4 park pass, does anyone know where i can get more info on that? And might there be any good military discounts as well? I know i'm planning way ahead, but I can't help it!:p DD is at a very good age for going again.

thanks for your help!

Hi Jenny,

I live just across the river in Clay County (Orange Park) just a few miles from NAS JAX...I can make it to Disney in about 2 hours & 15 minutes...:p The apartments on Hodges are nice most are new, alot of Navy family's do live in that area. So you will have a strong support group. Jacksonville is a great place to live and I'm sure you will love it here.

Congratulations on you BS in psychology, I know your happy to have your schooling done.

Eight years ago we had three Naval Bases...NAS JAX (location on US Hwy 17) NAS Mayport (located at the beach) and NAS Cecil Field (located on the west side of Jacksonville off 103rd Street and Normandy Blvd.) Cecil Field was closed a few years ago.

Congratulations Jenny!!! I have a girlfriend who lived in JAX for over 20 years. She loved it. So enjoy your move to there!:D

Congratulations!

My sister lives in JAX, Baymeadows east exit off 95 ~ it is a nice section, also very near Southside Blvd. and Avenues Mall like another poster mentioned.
