Moving to a warmer climate

Hey DISers!

I have set my mind on (eventually) moving to a warmer climate. I know, I know, any work I get will be rubbish, but the properties are typically cheaper and the weather is gorgeous (and don't get me started on the lovely environment!)

I have settled on one of a few choices - the South of Spain (more accurately, La Manga or Polaris, where I can nab a two bed apartment for €100l) or Cyprus (which may if anything be TOO exotic!

So... opinions? Other suggestions? Is Florida with WDW worth a look?

Ok if the south of Spain is in your line of thinking- forget Florida! I can't imagine moving there if I had the choice of Spain-

Cyprus- hmmm I don't know if I could do that leap.

Don't forget the added expense of the SUNSCREEN!

I was never fortunate enough to visit Spain but I know that the Dutch love it there. I think that Spain would be amazing.

I don't know much about Cyprus.

A lady that I work with has a son that moved the Cyprus, although they have relative there, after high school because he didn't want to go to college and he wasn't happy here anymore. It's been several years now and he is very happy there.

Don't have any specific recommendations, but the idea of moving to a warmer climate sounds good to me.

My parents moved to warmth after 20 years of living at about 9000 feet in COlorado. They moved to Pueto Vallarta Mexico and love it. PV is very pricey now, but little towns near by are not too bad. This area of MExico is far removed from the violence the media likes to talk about (in fact much of the southern US is much closer to that violence). Property iteslf is the big expense with food and ultilities being very small. There is also a large expat community (mostly American and Canandia but more and more Brits and Germans as well) and a very acceptig local population.

Of your listed choices I would think Spain would be nicer. It would take away from the fun of Disney for me if I lived there year round.

Properties in Bellaluz square, La Manga resort are pretty cheap - at least, by UK standards!

I'd look at Puerto Rico and Costa Rica. Both have a sizeable American communities(especially retirees), stable governments, good healthcare, and less expensive cost of living.

I lived in Florida all my life.If I had A chance I would move to Costa Rica tomorrow!!

I was muling over getting a job at WDW, but am shying away from the idea because a) the weather in winter isn't meant to be that good and b) I'd get bored with Disney, something I'd rather not do!

If you're looking for warmth, the southwest portion of the US is pretty darn nice if you're into outdoorsy activities. If you need a disney fix you can drive to DL in a day.

Today its been in the high 60's, with sunshine. Lovely!

Don't move to Disney if you don't want to lose the magic. I love living here, but I definitely don't get butterflies or anything like that when I go anymore. I am kind of excited to move away so I can gain that pre-trip excitement back.

Could you leave Europe? I have talked to people who can imagine moving elsewhere in Europe but they couldn't imagine completely leaving the continent.

I don't know if Florida weather would work for you. It gets murderously hot and humid and there's always the threat of storms.

The intercoastal is beautiful but it's not what it used to be.
The cost of living is absolutely ridiculous-insurance for housing is through the roof-and that's if you can find an insurer willing to write you a policy.
Traffic on I 95, The Fl Turnpike and 869 is really bad-bumper to bumper.

Tons of businesses and restaurants in Ft Lauderdale all along Commercial, Atlantic Blvd, even Hillsborough Rd up near Deerfield Beach have all gone out of business.
Lots of foreclosures on A1A even. Such a shame-

Just wait til you have lived here a few more years. You will eventually get tired of it. I never thought I would, and I have lived all over the United States.
The weather is nice, but I hate $900 electric bills. I miss my gas stovetop.
My children have only seen snow once and my oldest is 23!
Going to Disney, I almost have to beg them to go with me and DH. Even my 10 yr old says he would rather stay home most of the time.

I live in Costa Rica, it is not as "cheap" as many think it is!
