Moving people between staterooms

What is the process if we wanted to move people to other staterooms than when we originally booked? For example: We have two staterooms, one with 2 and the other 3. We want to move a person from the room of 3 to the other for the duration of the cruise. The number of each room would still be the same and they're the same category, so I'm assuming there wouldn't be an extra charge. We called about it a couple months ago and the rep said we could change it when we arrive at the port and check in. I was wondering if anyone else has done this?

Sure. After you go through testing, security, and check-in, you'll head upstairs. To the left, there are more check-in desks. If you go to the last desk (or the one right before it), there will be a manager that can help you out. She can move people around and even print you new keys, if there's time.

Once you complete this process (it took about 15 minutes when I did it last month), you'll be able to use the DCL app with your reconfigured staterooms assignments. There are a few consequences of changing like this, though.

1. The stateroom host won't know, so you'll have to explain it.
2. You'll still have the old keys waiting in your fish, so you'll want to have those removed by the host.
3. If moving people changes your Castaway Club status for any rooms, then you'll have to ask Guest Services to fix the rewards.
4. Your Castaway Club page will still have the original room number for everyone.
5. When you check in for your muster drill, the crew members will have the old assignments on their lists. If moving causes someone's muster station to change, then that person should go to both the old and new stations to let the crew members know what happened.

And of course, you'll have to go through Covid-19 testing with your original reservations since that happens before the change.

DCL doesn't care where you sleep. Why not just switch it unofficially when you board?
We want to make sure the keys work for the rooms they're sleeping in. We're actually having a lot of rooms because we're having a wedding and had some last minute guests that we squeezed into a room so we want to make sure everyone is comfortable with whom they're sharing a room with.

Thank you! This is really helpful. Would it save all that trouble with the old keys if we called and fixed it over the phone? Or would that be more difficult because I'm assuming we'd need the people the reservations are under for both rooms to confirm the change.

Sounds like it would be easier to do things before arriving at the port. Is that not possible?

You can probably change it over the phone, but if you're past the paid in full date, then DCL will probably try to charge you change fees. You might be able to argue your way out of them, but that's up to you.

I've heard of it done. It shouldn't be an issue. They will redo the cards for you. Covid has changed a lot so I'm not sure if you'd do that at check-in or Guest Services once on board.

When we were on the Dream in 2019, we had a similar situation, and we were able to request extra room keys. We never switched rooms officially, but the extra keys let us be able to have a key for the room we were sleeping in.

I wonder what that Covid protocol would if a passenger tested postive while on board.. Who quarantines, the official or unofficial persons in that room and how would they know?

If they're all from one party and they're eating together and having a wedding together, they'd probably all be close contacts.

Anyway, after moving people around in February, everything on the ship followed the new arrangement and nobody even knew about the original one. I'd expect close contacts to work the same way.
