Moving Issues

I am really happy about moving, but getting there may do me in! We have our house in Kansas City on the market. It seems like all I do is clean. I want the house to look perfect when someone comes to see it. No matter how hard I try, when do they call to see the house? As soon as I start something. Every time I start to bake something, I get a call saying they want to show the house in 10 minutes! I never get any notice!

I'm trying to find a reputable mover. We've received all kinds of postcards from movers. It is very hard trying to decide who we should go with. I've checked with the BBB, but there is not much to go on. It makes me very nervous.

I'm trying to separate things to sell from those we want to keep. There is no room to put the things I want to sell. You can hardly walk through the garage anymore because there is so much stuff there.

I am trying to set up appointments to get DD registered in her new school in Florida. We will be in Orlando in a couple of weeks. I'm having a hard time getting response from the people at the school. I want to register her now so that she will get the classes she wants. I'm afraid that if we wait until we actually move, those classes will all be filled. No cooperation!

In the meantime, my sister had to have unexpected surgery and I am running back and forth all the time doing things for her and taking her places. I don't mind helping her, it just makes things very hectic.

Sorry for the rant. I'm just feeling frustrated today! Once we are finally moved, it will be wonderful!

Wow, sending hugs your way. I'm military so I understand your concerns aboput the move. Don't fret!! But I would definatley get a quote from the moving company IN WRITING before you move. This way they can't add any extras! As far as school, are you registering fror next year? Keep at em. It may take you bugging them daily to get a response. Good luck!!

Hang in there...the end will justify the means.:) I think those are issues you would be dealing with no matter how "big" of a move you would make...unless maybe the school wasn't changing. Take lots of deep breaths and remind yourself you are in control. As far as the house being perfect...I was the same for all 3 of our moves, however, I have found the BEST trick is to clean it, and take off for 4-5 days. I know so many people who have sold that way. I have even had 2 neighbors go to a local hotel for the week and both their places went in 48 hours. Plus they had a nice indoor pool to enjoy! Add $300 to your asking price and take a week off. I know it sounds completely unessesary and hard when trying to save $...but keep in mind it may be totally worth it. 5 years ago my neighbor sold her place while they were in WDW. She was literally walking down Main Street when her agent called and said they had an offer. Now THAT'S Disney magic!

My house sold while I was at Disney. I was not no Main Street, but it was still pretty magical! LOL.

Have your agent put a MINIMUM time in the listing. Mine did and it worked for the most part. It required 2 hour notice. Now since I travel that normally meant I never even knew they came, but....

As for movers, I would make sure and go with a national company.

Regarding Movers, we used Mayflower once & Bekins another time. While there were things we didn't like that happened or "didn't happen" with both companies, our furniture made it. It is a great expense though.

From NJ to FL we used American Van Lines...NOT ONE PROBLEM! :Pinkbounc

I used United on my move from FL to VA and stuff got lost. Then they gave me a hard time when I claimed it! Grrrrrrrrrrrrr... Won't be using them again. I'm tempted to just call American and go with them on my future move!! I was happy with them.

Thanks for the advice. I will definately look into American Van Lines.

I hope you guys are right. DD and I will be in Florida for 6 days. Maybe the house will sell while we are gone. Let's hope!

Good luck with the move. It's a lot of work keeping a house ready to show. I hope you find a reputable moving company. That part would be very scary for me.
