Hi All,

I do know that Ireland is not in the UK, but I couldn't find the DIS Ireland board! ;)

There is a possibility that we may move to Kinsale with my husband's company, for a few year stay. (But I hear we might not want to come back to the US!)

Kinsale looks amazing, our kids are 3 & 5 now, I would love for them to live in a "different" culture (I would really like to live in Japan, but that's probably not going to happen!). DH still has family in Ireland, we have an O' name, and DH has red hair and freckles! So, we might be able to blend it! ;)

Any advice, etc?

THANKS!

How exciting for you! I've been to Kinsale only once, and I live five miles from one of Kinsale's 'twinned' towns :)

I thought Kinsale was very pretty, and it has (or had, at least) a reputation for gastronomy, especially sea-food. It isn't a very large community so, depending on the kind of environment you're used to in the US, you might find it quiet.

The Irish are such a welcoming nation that I am sure you'll feel right at home very quickly!

I've been to the Cork area a number of times on business (mainly Pharmaceutical companies) and it's a lovely area of the world :)

I live in the top of Ireland but if you have any questions please feel free to pm me

Hi,have you ever visited Kinsale? Its a really lovely little town that is a haven for sailing and good eating(try the bar food at the Trident Hotel)Like most saeside towns its a bit bleak in the winter but you will only be 20 miles away from Irelands second city Cork which has most things nowadays.Kinsale is steaped in history and on one side of the harbour is Charlesfort a napolionic fortress that is rumoured to be haunted and on the other side within a stones thow is a great beach at Garretstown. the scenery is lovely and the further west you go the better it gets You will only be 25 miles from Blarney and 60 miles from Killarney. The people are very friendly and as an Englishman who has lived in Ireland for 35 years I can say this with my hand on heart.I am sure you will love the laid back way of life here ( sounds like i work for the tourist office )best of luck and if you need to ask any other questions feel free :wave2:

My wife and I traveled around the south and southwest of Ireland last year.

Our intention was to stay only the one night where ever we ended up.

On the second day we visited Kinsale. We loved it so much we decided to spend a second night there.

We spent 8 days traveling around and wished we had spent all the time in Kinsale as it was so nice.

Because we liked Kinsale so much we have decided to return there for a few days this year. Last year we stayed at the Acton Hotel but this year we have booked to stay at the Trident Hotel.

There are a few very nice restaurants there. One of them is only open for lunch and is so popular that people queue up outside waiting for it to open as it isn't possible to book. We went there for lunch and can highly recommend it. It is just along from the Acton Hotel behind the green where the fountain is. I think it is called Fishy, Fishy cafe. Don't let the name put you off as it is far more than just a cafe.

My husband works for a pharaceutical company, that's how we would get there!

I work for a large control system and instrumentation manufacturer :)

Most of the companies I've done work for are around Ringaskiddy & Loughbeg.

If you want a good meal in a nice pub/restaurant head towards the Bosun at Monkstown (just across the river from Cobh. They do great bar meals and some lovly seafood dished in the restaurant :)

I've eaten at the Bosun :) I was a representative for our village when we twinned with Monkstown/Passage West and we were taken to the Bosun one evening. It's a great area and the friendliness of the people has to be experienced to be believed :grouphug:
