Moving from NYC to Boca Raton, FL...

Will you live in East Boca or West Boca? The Boca Raton city limits end at Powerline Rd.

That's great! You'll receive good services from the city, they also have their own police force. West Boca is really unincorporated Palm Beach county and their services are provided by the county.

That's good to know. We looked out west, but the zero lot lines that we found in many of the communities out there, like Mission Bay, were far too small. We found what we were looking for (big backyards) in east Boca Raton.

We lived in Boca Raton back in 1989 (until 1993), Mission Bay was just starting to develop. 441 was a two lane road, it's now 6 lanes. Mizner Park didn't exist. You get the idea. :teeth:

BTW, you'll have Boca Raton Community Hospital close to your house. They have a really good reputation, especially among doctors.

Good luck with the move!

We just moved north to Michigan....we had a place in Deerfield Beach, right next to Boca. And we have another place in Delray Beach, where my dad lives.

We really enjoy South Florida...there's lots to do there, if you look. But you'll need a car! It's not the walking place NYC is.

If you log on to sun-sentinel.com, and look at the left-hand side, you'll see a visitor's guide. It will give you lots of ideas about things to do down there! Have fun!

I am from Vero beach -- having moved to the ATL almost 10 yrs ago--

we use to call our town ZERO beach!! We always had to travel to do things--concerts, etc--

I hope that you can make the adjustment from NY to FL -- it is a big difference--and make sure you get state farm insurance--

my whole family was born and raised in FL and only my mom still lives there--everyone has relocated--my mom coming from a family of 11

good luck to you

I think Boca is known as Little New York so you should feel right at home.
I moved from Palm Beach County a year ago and don't miss it at all. Wasn't any more exciting than where I am now.

Exactly what came to mind, Legs...Little New York! I've heard it before.

I moved from NJ to Boca Raton and was there 15 years. Left 1.5 years ago. Boca is not slow, and it's not cheap! Of course, coming from NY, it might be cheaper for you. I was recently talking to someone on the phone down there for my job, and she was mentioning the unbelievable prices of homes. I can tell you that I owned my most recent home there 8 years and sold it for more than double what I paid. GREAT for the sellers!

I have to disagree with Rita on the hospital. It all depends on your personal experience with them. I had surgery done there and would never go back to even have them toss out the garbage. Bad experience! I'll take West Boca Medical Center any day. Of course, I may be partial to them since they were my former employer. :)

East of 95 and South of Palmetto. Around 12th Street area? Single family homes for the most part. Could be anywhere between there and the beach.

Good luck! Making a move with your employer is definitely the way to go. It's your chance. :)

We moved from south of Boston just about a year ago. I got homesickness really bad when we had been down here about 2 or 3 months. Like others have said, it takes a while to get use to being here.

I know we did the right thing by moving but it doesn't take the sting out of being away from everything I knew for my whole life. What helps is:

The endless days of sun and warm weather.... especially in the winter!

Growing vegetables in December.

The fantastic wildlife.

Getting weather reports from Boston that look like this! :p

Overnight: cloudy with a 30 percent chance of showers. Patchy fog. Lows in the upper 30s. West winds 10 to 15 mph. Gusts up to 25 mph toward dawn.

Friday: mostly cloudy. A chance of snow showers in the morning. Little or no snow accumulation. Highs in the lower 40s. West winds 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph. Chance of snow 30 percent.

Friday Night: mostly cloudy with a chance of flurries in the evening, then partly cloudy after midnight. Cold with lows in the mid 20s. West winds 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph.

Saturday: mostly sunny in the morning, then becoming partly cloudy. Highs in the upper 30s. West winds 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.
Saturday Night: partly cloudy. Cold with lows in the lower 30s. West winds 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.

Sunday Night: mostly cloudy. A 30 percent chance of snow after midnight. Cold with lows in the mid 20s.

Monday: mostly cloudy with a chance of snow in the morning, then a chance of rain in the afternoon. Highs in the upper 30s. Chance of precipitation 50 percent.

Monday Night: mostly cloudy with a chance of rain and snow in the evening, then a chance of snow after midnight. Cold with lows in the upper 20s. Chance of precipitation 40 percent.

Tuesday: mostly cloudy with a 30 percent chance of snow showers in the morning, then partly cloudy in the afternoon. Cold with highs in the mid 30s.

Tuesday Night Through Thursday: partly cloudy. A chance of flurries in the evening. Cold. Lows in the mid 20s. Highs in the mid 30s.

Good grief! :cold:

Being able to go to WDW and Cypress Gardens whenever I feel like it.

I will never move back to Massachusetts but it will always be my "home". That seems like an oxymoron but when you spend 50+ years in the same place, that's just the way it is.

Hang in there. :)
