Movies to Watch Before SWGE

I’ve only seen two Star Wars moves, one waaay back in 1977 and the other when chaperoning my 13 year old son and his friends back in 1999.

I was thinking DH and I might like to watch a few of the movies before I go to the AP preview so I went online to see which ones and in what order. That only confused me more, I swear I had no idea that this was such a thing!

Which films would you recommend to a very casual viewer if they wanted a good grounding before SWGE? I’m not a fan of space or adventure movies in general, I just want to know what I’m looking at during the AP preview.

Thanks!

In that case, I'd just watch the 2 new movies (The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi).

I’d watch them all of course but the land has a lot of the new trilogy as well as pieces of Solo and Rogue One. In addition to that they even have references to the television series Star Wars Rebels and Clone Wars.

Short on time? I’d just watch The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. Then you’ll be able to recognise the characters that walk around (except Vi Moradi but she hasn’t appeared in any film)

Thanks everyone!

The 1977 film (IV?) was on (Free!) last night so we started with that one. Where is the best place to stream them from? We have Netflix, Amazon Prime and Direct TV.

Netflix has Solo and Last Jedi but that's about it. I don't have Amazon Prime or Direct TV so not sure

They're not streaming anywhere else. However they are on TV often.

If you don't care about catching up with the whole series and just want to know some stuff for the land, focus on the The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi.

Hulu has most of them available to watch in some form or the other (I checked last week we have live TV through them so maybe that makes a difference). The Last Jedi and Solo are on Netflix

Just interjecting to say I'm pleasantly surprised at the number of references to SW Rebels: Hondo, Loth Cats, Puffer Pigs, Meiloorun Juice - oh, and can we count Vanessa Marshall aka Hera doing the post-ride voice on MFSR? :thumbsup2

If you have time and want to junp in...

Go 4, 5, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8
This starts the saga out the way George intended, and gives the a flash back feel watching 2 & 3 after 5. It tells the story of Anakin Skywalker (Darth Vader) nicely this way.

If you want a shorter experience I would go 6, 7, 8. Feel for the trilogy and catches u up on the recent saga.

Your mileage may vary on Machete order. I tried it last watch and frankly hated it.

Interesting... I introduced my son to star wars this way and we both loved it. It's all preference. I had only watched the original 3 as a kid and was not a SW fan by any means. Walked out of watching it that way as a big fan.

As with most, personal preference I guess.

Question, were you familiar with the films prior to trying this order?

Watch the new movies (Force awakens, Rogue One and last Jedi) I am not a huge SW fan (but all of the men in my family are) and I really liked those movies (way better than the old ones) and some of them are on Netflix right now.

Yes, I had seen them before, though I am not a huge Star Wars fan. I don't consider any of the prequels to be very good. It's a major drag stopping to watch 2 and 3 after the big cliffhanger on 5, slowing down to watch films that aren't as good by any means. By the time you get back around to 6 it's a breath of fresh air, but the momentum has been lost.

Thanks for sharing. Makes a difference. I would not suggest that order for someone who has seen them and familiar with them... Think it's best for someone who never watched or doesn't really recall.

All preference. If one doesn't like 2/3...no order changes that.

To be fair, I thought I did like 2 and 3 before that most recent viewing. I think I would fit in your category of not remembering that well. I think I had only seen them all once, maybe twice. I didn't grow up with Star Wars.
