So we’re looking at going November 2020. We are leaning towards a standard room at movies, I think both my (will be) 14 year old and my (also will be) 6 year old. Both will recognize the toy story characters and Fantasia but will be kind of clueless to love bug and mighty ducks (but my husband surly will be happy to see mighty ducks. We stayed at pop in Jan this year and both my parents (in a separate room) and our family liked the rooms and resort all together, but my son asked to stay at a different resort this time. We stayed in a standard room in the 80s section which my son requested because of the rubix cube and Pac-Man. Well also rent a van (it just works so much better for our family).

So I know movies is a larger resort, is it a long walk from the standard room to the dining hall? My parents will be coming along and stay in a separate room from us. They really liked the renovated rooms of pop, are the movies room the same? Should we request an upper level room? At pop we were at the top level which we found to be quiet but some nights when we were dragging after the park thought it’d be nice to be on the lowest level closest to the parking lot 😆 we loved the close proximity of pop to the parks and surrounding areas, is movies similar? Finally I read that Disney was going to start charging a fee (something like a few hundred dollars a day) does anyone know if they did that? It was in regards to charging things to the room and the fee was to cover that..when it was introduced people had a thousand charged to their cards that was supposed to fall off after a week but idk if dis is still doing that or not. We also know about the parking fee, but I can’t remember how much it was per night at the value.

When should I book!? Lol

It can be a long walk depending on what building you're in.

No, they aren't the same as POP

The same at Movies - with no one above you the top floor rooms are more quiet, but it sure is nice being on a lower floor near the parking lot after a long day. I appreciate the balancing you need to go through.

I am looking at staying at a value resort for the first time. In the past, I stayed at three of the mods. So, I am following along to see what feedback the OP gets on POP versus Movies

Movies has 900+ less rooms than Pop. The layout makes it so it’s not that bad, and I think it has the best layout of the All-Stars.

I’ve been in both the renovated rooms at Pop and Movies and I didn’t notice any major differences.

Proximity wise, the All-Stars are really close to the Animal Kingdom.

If you don't think your kids will know the characters featured at ASMo then have them watch the movies.

The way Movies is set up its not a long walk to anything.

I do believe all of the rooms have been renovated and are set up like POP's rooms.

Personally I preferred ground floor for not having to walk up a bunch of stairs of wait for the elevator.

The All Star resorts are not as "centrally located" to the parks. POP and AOA are the best located value reosrts with short trips to HS and EPCOT and a pretty direct bus route to MK.

Yes in January Disney started putting holds on CC's for charging to your room reservation.

Personally I just don't charge to my room reservation because its no harder to pull out my CC especially since I have a Disney Visa and have to show it to get the discount anyways.

Parking fee at value resorts is $15 per night.

We just stayed at Pop for the first time last month and I really liked it for the following reasons:
1. Proximity to all of the parks and DS.
2. AoA is just across the bridge, so you can go over there for additional dining options.
3. Gondola transportation to HS and EP. Even if you are driving this might be a better option for those park days, especially HS.
4. The bus transportation was some of the best that we've experienced. When coming back from the parks, if the Pop bus wasn't there, and the AoA bus was, we would just hop on that bus and then walk back over the bridge from AoA to Pop.
5. The rooms were pretty great. Though, once the All Stars are finished with their renovations, I'm sure they will be pretty great too.

Have you thought about giving AoA a try? That might be more theming than you want, but it might be a option. If your parents don't want that much theming, they could stay at Pop and you guys could stay at AoA and just meet up when you are ready to journey out for the day.

Have a great trip!

I have somewhat of social anxiety and being on crowded buses is really a bad expirience for me. Sometimes the monorail Is overwhelming for me (it spikes when I’m in confined areas with a lot of people) in the parks it’s not as bad since I’m not sandwiched in with a lot of people/more open air. It doesn’t help that I have a couple medical conditions which I need to be able to get out of the car (or area) quickly.

Unfortunately AoA isn’t truly an option for us due to its pricing for the standard rooms and being blocked out of possible discounts. My son wanted to stay at AoA but not in the mermaid rooms, those rooms are to much for him. He wanted to stay in a family suite which is way to much price wise for us. My parents want to stay in the same resort as us, they want their own space but they also want to be close enough that when we all get ready to go we can knock on each other’s doors and go. We’d like to stay there at some point but we won’t be able to this trip.

I guess the main thing is well loose the close proximity to some of the parks but hopefully it’ll still be a pretty short drive. My husband doesn’t mind the drive and now that my dad doesn’t have to drive he doesn’t mind it either. He likes yelling at my husband when he makes a wrong turn instead of everyone yell at him.

If you stay at Movies you can always walk to the other to All Star resorts. They are all easily within walking distance. You also can use all of the cafeteria's there too. None of the drives are that bad.
