Mental health experts here are advising the viewing of movies about road trips are helpful at this time. We have seen Easy Rider, Thelma & Louise, they recommended Nebraska, but it's not available ie Netfix here.

Any recent reommendations would be appreciated.

Any movies I can think of that Bernando Bertolucci directed. He had a strong regard for cinematography.
I really want to see "The Last Emperor" again. Same for John Ford.

National Lampoon Vacation movies
The Guilt Trip with Seth Rogan and Barbara Streisand
Blues Brother (is that really about a road trip??) Do you need excuse to watch this movie? No!
Are We There Yet?
Little Miss Sunshine

I googles Road Trip movies and there was a ton choices like Little Miss Sunshine (great movie!) and Beavis and Butthead does America..my husband personal favorite..

not recent ones but at least happier endings than the 2 you've mentioned-

the original muppett movie

pee wee's big adventure

lots of old bing crosby/bob hope movies

it happened one night

Not a road trip, but cross-country races and looking for buried money!

Cannonball Run

It's a Mad, Mad, Mad World!

Two very entertaining, take your mind off of everything movies!

And Rat Race too.

Planes, Trains and Automobiles is another, though perhaps not strictly a road trip film.

There are others, like Duel and Mad Max types, which are far from soothing, scenic type movies, if that was the original intent of the recommendation.

Thanks all. The one movie that the Mental Health experts used as an example was Bonnie & Clyde, so I assume a movie's end result isn't as important as was the journey.

It might be helpful to say where/if the movie is available for streaming.

‘Kodachrome’ on Netflix

The Straight Story is currently on Disney+. A man uses his riding lawnmower to take a trip to visit his brother. This is an amazing film and a rather surprising one from David Lynch. It’s stars Richard Farnsworth and Sissy Spacek. One of my all-time faves

My favorites were all mentioned but I'll just second them --

Planes, Trains and Automobiles
Tommy Boy
Pee-wee's Big Adventure
The Muppet Movie
Vacation
