I understand that there is a snack stand by the movie theatre on the magic where they sell candy, popcorn, etc. Is the candy very expensive? Would it be worth it to bring some candy for the kids when they go or are the prices of the treats reasonable? ( I was also thinking of having candy put in a gift basket for them on board). Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thankyou!

We paid $4.50 for a big bag of M&M's onboard outside the Buena Vista Theatre....they had a rolling cart set up.

Compared to prices in land movie theatres I thought it was cheap because the size of the bags were much larger than what you would get in a land based theatre. They do add a 15% gratuity to it which I didn't really understand and it fell under "room service" on the print out of onboard account statement.

That bag lasted through 2 different movies during the week and then some!!!

Two terrific and VITAL suggestions I learned from this board relate to this very topic

get candy from scoops for free - that's right just ask for a bowl of toppings - they have m&ms and other candy items - then bring the bowl to the theater or put the items in a ziploc

order room service cookies or the cheese platter and bring these in ziplocs

My kids discovered the candy for sale and it was AMAZINg how much could easily be spent

That is a cool idea about Scoops but I can see DCL nixing it as soon as all the DIS'ers start asking for bowls for toppings!!! You know how word travels like wildfire around here!!!

Same thing as the pillowcase deal...too many wanted to do it and then nixed it.

Yeah-- I can see how something that's not a big deal to do for a few people could quickly become a big deal if the entire ship were to start doing it. :(

Lots of people have suggested having Shirley from the perfect gift put together a gift package. I plan to do just that. I like the idea of putting it all in a pail w/shovel for CC, and the candy for the movies or other times.

DD3 wanted jelly bellies before Disney Dreams so we bought some. She had a great time trying all the different flavors. Kept all of us occupied until the show started.

We started trying to guess the flavor by smellng each bean. We would close our eyes, put the bean up to our noses, and smell. I turned just in time to see DD3 putting a bean UP her hose!

We got a good laugh out of it.

Snacks during the shows/movies sound like a great idea, but I've been too stuffed from dinner to even think about food!::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes::

Just in case you didnt know, the pilowcases can still be done at guest services.

I too wondered why there was a gratuity added to the snacks you get outside the movie theatre, and than realized that the CM probably is not getting anything to get everything together, set it up, and sell everything. They probably are also used in other area's like selling cocktails, and therefore would mostly rely on tips for the majority of their pay. I may be wrong, but it's a thought.

THANK GOODNESS!! I was worried for a minute there~ my kids are looking forward to this! :) Good idea about bringing the cookies and cheese and crackers! I have my ziplocs ready to go!

For our cruise last 11/15 I put a bunch of the kid's Halloween candy into zip lock bags & that is what they brought to the theater when we went. This year since we don't go until 12/4 I am going to pull some candy out early so there is some left. LOL!

Note about the pillowcases.....some reported that they were still being done on the Wonder, but not the Magic....then some reported that they were able to get it done on the Magic.

I would not EXPECT to get them done, I think it depends on the CM you talk to at guest services....it is not an offical DCL policy to do the pillowcases so just go and ask and if they say no, they say no....if they yes...then great!! But just don't think it is a given that it will be done.

We are traveling after Easter 2005. I plan on buying leftover Easter candy and taking it along for the Movies. I wouldn't let the dd's buy any candy outside the theatre.....couldn't stomach the price. I will be a better mom and plan ahead this time! :teeth:

We had Shirley prepare the sand pail 'basket' for each of our DD's. DD6 has specific tastes, and Shirley accomodated. She (DD6) thought it was so neat that her bucket only had lemonade, while DD8 had different drinks.

A minor warning, the buckets are big! Either have a big suitcase to bring it home, or plan on leaving it for a future guest.

I plan on donating the sand toys to the kids club at the end of our cruise, then future little cruisers can use them.

I would definitely bring your own snacks. We went to see a movie while we were in port and they were not selling any snacks. We asked a CM where we could buy some and she said that all of the shops and the snack carts were closed while we were in port....for some reason they could not sell goods while we were in port. However they could sell prepared food and drinks. Also, a note about the cookies from room service....they are not "free". You will see a charge for them on your stateroom account. However you can grab a few cookies at the desert bar at Topsiders during lunch, wrap them up and take them with you.

I would have questioned the charge for the cookies....we have never been charged before for cookies from room service. Either it was a mistake are they are now charging.

We ordered cookies from rooms service every night and they were indeed free...never a charge for a plate of cookies. Either they changed it which I had not heard about or they made a mistake by charging for them.
