How does the movie theater work? Do you reserve tickets online? Is it first come first Serve? The Last Jedi will probably be showing and I’d like to see it.

It can get pretty full, but I've never had a problem getting a good seat. I usually get there a little early though.

Well for some of the new releases i have been when there is an earlier showing and a late showing. The late showings(for example 10 or 11pm) haven't been nearly as crowded.

For the big movie releases they will show it in the Walt Disney Theater sometimes which holds many more.

Yes, the theater is first come, first served. It feels a bit weird to just walk in and sit down. There will be multiple showings throughout the cruise and there is enough going on all over the ship, there is usually seating available. If you are picky about your seat or have a large party that should sit together, do arrive early. You can bring food into the theater but please remember to take out the trash with you if you do.

We went to the opening of Beauty and the Beast. We were standing in line when the doors opened, so we got seats with no problems. Some people complained about the "saving seats" thing, but the only people 'saving' were just in the bathroom, after having sat in the seat. And it was one person in a party, not several vacant seats. We waited for about a half hour for the show to start and the theatre did fill up.

We were sailing when the last Pirates of the Caribbean movie came out. There was a LINE to get into both theaters, both the Walt Disney and the Buena Vista theater. The Walt Disney theater was showing it in 3-D, which we took a hard pass on. We got a good seat, but they were enforcing a no saving seats rule.

So if you have a preference and the movie is going to be popular (like the Last Jedi is sure to be) you may want to consider being there early to ensure a good seat and that your entire party will be there at the same time.

Our ship disembarks the 8th and returns to Galveston on the 15th, which is technically the release date of The Last Jedi; curious for previous cruisers in similar scenarios - have they played the movie prior to the official release? My husband would be FLOORED if we got to see it while on board.

Are you on the Dec 8-15th cruise?

We have found it hit or miss. We went to Moana earlier this year and the movie had been out for two months but when we got to the movie around showing start time, there was not one seat available. People standing in the back and sitting on the stairs due to no more seating.

@Mama_MeBow There is a good chance they will play it at midnight on the 15th. It will make debarkation morning stink and make for very tired travelers, but they have done it before.

on a previous cruise we were on they did the premiEAR at midnight the last night. It made for a very tired disembarking but was fun.

We were on the Dream when Beauty and the Beast released. We disembarked Friday, March 16, which is the day the movie was released. They showed it in the big theater starting at 10:45 the night before.

Yes they will probably show it the last night.

However, I would like to make a small rant. We were on the Fantasy the week AFTER one of the Avengers movies was released, I expected to be able to see the movie the first day in the theater, but DCL decided to wait until later in the week to show it as a special show, which limited the viewing to later in the week. I was pretty annoyed.

Also don't let them fool you, they will not mention the premEAR until a day or 2 before, they like to keep people in suspense as to if they will show it "Oh if the film made the boat we will show it", etc.

If they keep the same release date for Han Solo, then it opens the day we board the Dream. Suuuuuuuuuure mommy wants to go to the sail away party, just drop me off at the theatre on your way there. :cool2:

Inside Out was shown at 11:00 pm the night before the release. And as mentioned, it was not announced until just a couple days before. Very fun for my kids!

Awesome! Worth a sleepy DH and I if it falls on the last night. Besides Dec 14th is my birthday! :D extra special reason to have an adult night movie & pj party

I was on the Fantasy when Rogue One had its debut at midnight (12:01? Maybe 12:30? It was late) on the Thursday night/Friday morning of release day. The cruise director came out dressed as Leia, R2D2 made an appearance... the theatre was being patrolled by Storm Troopers who posed for guests taking selfies. It was one of my favourite cruise experiences EVER.

It's good to note, though, that this only happened during the premiere. The rest of the showings didn't have any of the glamour or glitz (that I'm aware of), so I'm super happy that I took the time to head to the premiere. It wasn't that crowded, either. It was busy, but there were lots of seats available.
