UNITED-STATES-OF-MOVIES.jpg

I really think there is a better one for NC, but I can't think right now.

Robocop? Really? There has got to be something better than that for Michigan!

I don't know about something better than Bull Durham, though. That's a classic.

Bull Durham is classic - nothing wrong with that one :) I knew what Iowa's would be before I opened the thread... not that there are a lot of other options.

Fargo, in Minnesota? I haven't seen it, but the only Fargo I know is in N. Dakota so I always assumed that's where it took place.

:rotfl:

I was thinking the same thing (granted, parts of that movie take place in MN)

and what's with "Jesus Camp" for both ND and MO? That's just plain lazy.... at least pick a Jesse James movie for MO (The Long Riders?) or something.

I pulled it from The Huffington Post who pulled it from reddit.com and this is what HuffPo states:

You probably have a movie in mind that sums up your point of view, your childhood, or your first love, but did you ever think about which movie best represents your state? Redditer Subtonix did, and made this awesome map of the the nation with a movie assigned to all 50 states. Some are more obvious - Kansas gets "The Wizard Of Oz" and Nevada gets "Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas" - but others are more of a stretch. Do you agree with the movie your state is paired with? Tell us what you think in the comments! (Via Blame It On The Voices)

UPDATE: Several readers have brought to our attention that the movie "Fargo" is misplaced in Minnesota. The city of Fargo is actually in North Dakota. While we don't know if this is a mistake or Subtonix's intent, we hope you can still enjoy the map!

I've never actually seen Bull Durham! We have had a lot of movies filmed here (or at least parts of movies). Forrest Gump, The Hunt for Red October, Dirty Dancing, The Color Purple.

I just love movies and thought it would be neat to see what everyone thinks about their state's pick.

Wiki has all the answers: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Films_set_in_Michigan

I would have gone with Gran Torino or The Crow. Not sure where they get some of the info in Wiki though. . . . (apparently Beverly Hills Cop is a Michigan film as well!)

For MO, I think Meet Me in St Louis is a better choice.

(Oddly enough, Blues Brothers does not make the list for Illinois. But Adventures in Babysitting, and both Wayne's World do.)

LOVE Bull Durham! It's a keeper!

I would have figure that "Forrest Gump" would have been Alabama's (even though some of it was filmed in SC & NC).

"Glory" for S.C.? Never seen it....

Even though the name of the movie is Fargo, it mostly takes place in Minnesota, so that's why it's placed there.

Twister for Oklahoma...figures... I think Oklahoma! is a much better representation.

Can't really argue with the choice for Indiana.....

I was thinking the same thing. Only other one I could come up with was also sports: "A League Of Their Own" A League of their Own was based & filmed in Southern Indiana.

Regardless where the movie takes place, having a big old "FARGO" in MN makes the map designer look like he doesn't know anything :lmao:. There are PLENTY of other movies made in MN that would be better. :lmao:

Wayne's World is wrong. The movie took place in Aurora Illinois.

I get it! Do you remember the part of the movie where they do the "blue screen" joke where they come up with jokes for the places they put behind them on the blue screen. They start like in Hawaii and they Hula and surf, then New York and they come up with iconic jokes, then it's... "Delaware, Hi we're in Delaware."

I assume that the movies are listed where they take place and not where they were filmed? Although most of the movies I've never seen, it's an interesting idea.

I think Bull Durham is actually a pretty good one for North Carolina -- it's set here and they actually used the old Durham Athletic Park. A lot of movies are filmed here but they aren't generally set here. Others set here include Days of Thunder and Cold Mountain -- couldn't do the latter b/c they filmed it in Romania even though they could have used the real Cold Mountain.:confused3

Southern Comfort for Louisiana is stupid. How about choosing A Streetcar Named Desire? Whoever did this is a maroon.
