My DH and I will be moving in 3 weeks. We have looked into several moving companies and gotten quotes from quite a few. We are now trying to decide which company to use.

We are currently between Cousins Moving and American Van Lines. Through all my google skills it is still difficult for me to find reviews on these companies. Has anyone on the DIS used either of these companies for a move? How was the experience? Both people I talk to at the company were up front and pleasant. Estimates are within $30 of each other.:confused3

I've never heard of Cousins, but have heard of the other company. One thing to ask however is whether they sub-contract their work out. Good luck!

Check them out on bbb.org. If i have the right american van lines, they got a C- where as cousins has a A-

With the recent news about how the BBB awards its ratings, I wouldn't put much stock in them.

Did each come to your house to give you an estimate? That's where we ran into trouble when we moved - truck was too small because they estimated over the phone.

My sister-in-law used American for a cross country move from Arizona to Ohio. They subcontracted out her move to Sirena Movers. It was 29 days before her furniture and other belongings were delivered. Her stuff sat at a crossdock in Oklahoma for over two weeks. They kept promising her delivery "tomorrow," "tomorrow," and on and on, knowing full well it wasn't going to be "tomorrow." She sat in her new house with only a few pieces of furniture that we left for her (she bought our house) with her severely handicapped adult son who had no idea where he was because his bed and everything else he was familiar with was sitting on a truck for a month. It was a hideous experience. If you Google Sirena Movers, the reviews are pretty much horrible. I may be wrong, but I think American subcontracts all of its business to other moving companies.

Where are you moving?

We were quite confused on how to hire a mover. My husband asked someone at work who to use and we ended up using a local company in our new location that frequently did moves to and from VA/FL.

They were awesome. But you would have to be moving somewhere along I-95 for it to be useful. They took longer to load than we expected--but we severely underestimated how much I had actually packed (thought I packed much more than I did!) So that was not their fault. We had a lot of crap.

And I wouldn't bother with the BBB. Their ratings aren't worth much to be trusted.
