Ok....throwing in the towel... no motivation!!!

I really need to loose some weight before going to Disney in June....not looking for a miracle, but maybe 15 lbs??? I need to loose about 30 total. :scared1:

Who is the best, and most affordable weight loss companies like Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, Nutrasystem, etc????

Never tried anything like this before.....I need sucess!! :)

Also any codes/discounts out there for these places???? :thumbsup2

TIA!!!:goodvibes

I am in the same boat as you. I want to lose at least 15lbs by our June trip. Years ago, I lost about 50 lbs on Weight Watchers. I have gained about 10 back, simply because I haven't been watching what I eat and not exercising. So, I just started WW again. I am doing it myself at home since I still have the old point books, etc. I think they have changed their plans a bit, but the fundamentals are probably the same. It is a really doable program. They often have free trial memberships on their website, check it out. But, I am confident I can lose the weight in the next 12 weeks. Good luck!

Amy

I have done weight watchers in the past and still have their stuff and started doing it at home in the middle of January and I have lost 20 pounds so far.I like the program and feel that it works. I just wish I could lose another 5 before my trip but do not think that will happen. :sad1:

for motivation may I suggest www.sparkpeople.com. It is free to sign up and they have great advice and wonderful tools. check it out. I joined a few weeks ago. It has really helped me stay on track and be accountable.

I really like ediets.com. They have a number of plans to choose from including low carb, heart healthy, Zone and low cal/low fat (ediets plan - similar to WW).

What I really like about them is that they give you a week's worth of menus and a shopping list. The menus list all the ingredients for 1 meal, so you eat everything you cook. Unlike WW where you have to figure out your own points, ediets does it for you. You can change a meal if you don't like a particular ingredient. Or I change my meals a lot to match what is on sale at the grocery store that week.

With Jenny Craig or Nutrisystem, they give you everything to eat but you don't really learn how to cook for yourself. Plus their food is really expensive, you're looking at about $125 per wook for their food, then you have to supplement fresh fruit and veggies.

I pay $10 per month, but I've been there for years so I don't know what new users are charged.

There are also message boards and online meetings to participate in for motivation. But these are not required. You just need to check in each week to update your progress and generate a new weekly plan.

I'm doing WW right now, have lost just about 10 lbs since 2/16 when I started & plan to lose 22-25 total by June. I love the program, I like having the choice to eat anything I want as long as I count the points for it.

The trick that has worked best for me is to eat something every 2-3 hours so I don't get starving - That's usually when I go into feeding frenzy mode! Things like granola bar, yogurt - 1-2 pts between meals, really help me.

Good luck!!

How about low carb? You will be able to reach your goal and wont have to pay all of that money.

Most worthwhile plans have the same basic concepts

Eat less calories and burn off more.

I have lost close to 50lbs on WW and found it very doable without an ongoing expense. BUT would also highly recommend attending meetings (aka expense) if motivation is an issue for you.

I returned to WW this Jan as I had regained about 20lbs and even started running. I wish I could report huge losses, but in the 12 weeks back - I have lost 12lbs exactly. It was like I started on a plateau.

I believe in constant eating - I pre plan my next day's meals so I am not window shopping when I am hungry cause I never pick the right choices then. I also do 5 small meals throughout the day.

Exercise is almost a must - walking is a great place to start.

Good Luck

Oh and I have a dress I am determined to wear to my dinner at V&A with my DH in June - so that is my visual motivation

OP please go onto the W.I.S.H link here on the dis boards the thread has plenty of tips food and excerise ideas as well...i also belong to sparkpeople and do ww as well both are great here is the link:

good luck you can do it!!! I have been on ww now for 11 weeks as of yesterday i lost 15 lbs during that time i went on a cruise for a week and did disney trip (long weekend) and still lost weight, ww is great I never starved during either trip I did eat the foods I wanted BUT at the same time
did make some smarter choices :thumbsup2

Of the ones you mentioned, Weight Watchers is definitely the most affordable. It's also a sensible program.

Saw this on tv the other night: go to weightwatchers.com/free for a one week free trial. I just tested the link and it works.

Best thing I ever did was see a registered dietician that helped me set up a long term healthy eating plan.
One of the things that she suggested to help me be more accountable was to photograph everything I ate and drank during the the day. Keeping a visual food diary let the dietician check on my portion sizes and it was easy to keep the camera on the kitchen bench and take a quick snap.

Good luck with whatever you choose and make sure it is something that will work for you in the long term.

I am doing weight watchers right now and I am VERY happy with the program. I do recommend doing the online tools as well as the meetings. I love tracking the food I eat and my weight on their website, seeing the weight graph going down is really motivating.

The points system is great because you can still treat yourself to food you want you just have to budget you points. I have 2 slices of pizza (one of my favorite foods!) once a week for dinner and still loose weight. I have lost 16 1/2 pounds in 7 weeks and have been eating food that I like.

Good luck!!

Another vote for WW - My sister lost 60lbs and has kept it off for over 2.5 years, my hubby lost 45lbs, I lost 30 (but gained back about 10 because I've gotten back into my bad habits...), and my parents and his mom have each lost 25lbs.

It's a good, proven, safe way to lose weight - and if you stick with it, you WILL keep it off.

DH and i started WW about 2 weeks ago, I had lost about 4 lbs in the 1st week and DH over 5, and while we both need to lose weight we are neither one hugely overweight, so it seems to be coming off pretty easy is my point in that. I signed up online and it tracks your points, weight and lots of other stuff. you should look into it, they give you a week free trial and charge your card after the first week if you don't cancel before. Good Luck!

As long as you have it in your mind that you WANT to lose weight and eat better...it's easy!! Just cut your calories and exercise. I have lost 60lbs and that is all I did! I first had to want it bad enough because I found that whenever I tried before I wasn't ready and always failed. This time I was excited and motivated and told myself that this didn't mean I could never eat my favorite things again....that helps!! I just can't eat as much or as often:thumbsup2My workout routine is pretty simple and works!! I do in home walking with Leslie Sansone which can be found on exercise tv if you have digital cable. I add some arm and ab work and I'm good. I'm sure the programs work but it comes down to eating less and working out...you don't have to pay to do that;)

Although definately more expensive than WW, Jenny Craig is the only thing that has ever worked for me. You use their food to loose weight and learn portion control. Then you wean yourself off of their food and you learn how to maintain your weight. I lost 35 pounds! One key I learned is that I was eating way too much protein. You only need 6 ounces total for the day.

WW had too much freedom for me and I was totally obsessed with points. I do like when point are listed on a food.

Everyone is different and what works for one, may not work for another. Previous poster said it right: reduce calories in and increase calories burned. The simplest way to do this is to add lots of fruits and veggies. Don't forget to get your calcium too.

Actually, the most cost effective, is basic common sense. Less calories in, more calories spent.

PM me, I work for a "diet food" manufacturer.

I too am on a "diet" for Disney, Sept/Oct. I have probably 25-30 pounds to lose. I purchased P90X workout with Tony Horton (committ to exercise 90 days) and Sunday will be 2 weeks, and I'm already down 2 sizes. You increase your water, I'm drinking close to a gallon a day now. Cardio...NOT high impact, you want LOW, FAT BURNING IMPACT (high burns calories, low burns fat) and weight training. He says wgt training every other day, but I do it everyday, along with the 100 ab ripper routine.

Meals: replacing my 3 meals per day to 5...hard! Eat within the 1st hour of waking up to burn the most calories per day. Breakfast for me is typically, 1 cup fresh berries, 1 banana, 1 cup fat free plain Stoneyfield yogurt and ice in the blender. NO added sugar, only what's naturally in the fruit. I drink it on the way to daycare/work.

Snack #1 (about 2 hours after your breakfast). Anything to crunch on. A handful of raw almonds, or 6 celery sticks with NATURAL peanut butter, (you'll need to keep it in the fridge, it's runny and since no pres. can go rancid).

Lunch: Whole wheat pita with organic dijon mustard, spinach and tuna-hard boiled egg white moisted with olive oil. Stuff pita and finish with an apple (you can add the Nat. PB for added protein).

Snack # 2 - same as above for me.

Dinner: Zucch./yellow squash, mushrooms, tomatoes, spinach and 1/2 a serving (1/2 a deck of cards) of chicken, then I put it all in a veggie wrap with FF cheese and pop it in the George Foreman.

His rule is to stop eating 3 hours before you'd go to bed, so for me, I need something fast and done by 6pm (EST). There are many varieties of snacks and meals, but this is what I can make from memory in 2 weeks.

Protein is really important when wgt. training too, it helps with your muscle recovery. Try to limit your sugar and carbs, you know the "white" carbs, whole grain is good, and I hate veggies, but have grown to like them in 2 weeks. It took my taste buds some getting used to, but it's doable. How weight? I'm down about 14 pounds now, and it's not water because my H20 intake has increased 100 fold!

Good luck!

I have done Jenny Craig LONG ago.....it did help me lose weight and I actually kept it off until I started having babies.....

BUT, back then I was all about the calories and not nutrition.

Eating pre-made meals that have preservatives, sugar, and bleached flour are not healthy no matter what weight loss programs tell you about them being low fat.

I do best when I eat only WHOLE/REAL foods.....nothing pre-made, nothing with foods that have been altered from their natural state.

I like "You: On a Diet" by Dr. Oz.

Now if I could just stick to the plan again!!!!

:hippie:

Just speaking from years of experience here-losing weight for an event won't keep it off. You are more likely to keep weight off if you make a lifestyle change instead- for your health not because you are want to change how you look quickly. That's why I like WW. It is not pre-packaged and very flexible. You have wiggle room for weekends and special occasions built in with flex points. And it gives you a loss of 1-2 lbs a week which is more likely to stay off than if you get a quick fix and then go back to your old habits. Check with your health insurance company to see if they offer any discounts for WW- mine offers 12 weeks for $25.

I use http://www.livestrong.com -- totally free.

They have a "daily plate" database that has the calorie counts and nutritional information of almost anything you can think of to eat -- including most restaurants. You track your food and it tells you how many calories you have left for the day.

There's also differing groups and challenges called Dares, Dare to Lose Weight, Dare Exercise Daily etc, that you can post on and get support from other members.
