We will be camping at FW for our first time in October. We had a reservation for 9 nights in a partial hookup loop. We called yesterday to switch a day (arrive one day later and stay one day longer), but we were told that there is no availability in the partial hookup loops, but there is availabilty in the preferred loop. Needless to say, we have switched our loops. For some reason, I am upset that we won't be in the partial hookup loops with the other tenters. Are there many tenters in the preferred loops? What does the preferred loops mean (with the exception of more money)?

You will be much closer to the action and yes i have tent camped there before! The other site you had is removed and a heck of a hike to the action....well not that bad but a hike...or you could wait on a bus.I think you will be happy:banana:
Don

The preferred sites are closer to the meadow or trading post. They also have cable hookup I also think internet might be available, but what I like the most is being closer to the marina. I will second that I think you will be happier! :wizard: Hope so anyway!

A preferred site isnt a bad thing! Yes, you pay more , but the convienence of being closer to the main areas is well worth the price. Bring along a small TV and enjoy the "Disney" cable. There are usually a few tent campers in the preferred loops......dont worry if your neighbors have a TT, fiver, or a coach......all are there for the same reason....to having fun at Disney!

Don't forget, if you are addicted to the DIS boards, internet is $10 a day. I dont agree with them charging the preferred sites, but that is how it is.

We will be camping in a tent in a few more days!!!
And yes, we are in the preferred loop. They told us on the phone that we will not have a problem putting two large tents on a preferred site. I hope that is true. I have been to the Fort before but that was years ago in my parents motorhome. This time the grandchild thinks a tent will be fun and his dad has spent time in Iraq in a tent so he thinks going to the Fort in July/August is no problem in a tent....I am not so sure! At least I can still get my tip for today as we will have a small tv and cable...lol

I think next year we will be back in a nice comfortable, climate controlled, dry room!!!

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that camping at FW is going to be a 'day at the park' for him after Iraq! Tell him thanks for serving and double thanks for his time in Iraq. If it gets too unbearable for anyone else, there's always Shades of Green, sleeps 5, AC, lots of space, fridge in the room, about $100 a night. It almost sounds like I'm trying to talk someone out of staying at Fort Wilderness, this is a first!

Have a good trip!

You won't find many tenters in the preferred loops (at least that was my experience when we stayed there and when I think about our walks through the loops I don't remember seeing many tenters in the 100, 200, and 300 loops. When we stayed in the 800 loop I believe we were the only family in a tent at that time too. If you get that loop, you're just as close to things as the 1500 loop in my opinion. The 1500 loop is pretty close to 'stuff' and the 2000 loop is one bus ride (with no stops between) from the marina and buses to some parks and the boat to the MK. Going in the other direction from the 2000 loop, the bus stop at the outpost and buses to other parks is only 3 or 4 bus stops away. (Do you have a link to a map of FW? It would make more sense to see what I'm talking about: http://www.allearsnet.com/acc/fortwmap1.jpg)

If you think you'd rather have a partial, call back and see if they have anything available, no matter how many days in your week, and switch it back. You can always add on as you get closer, people cancel. Good luck, whichever way you decide to go.

We just came back a few weeks ago, we were in the 1400 loop (which is preferred) and there were at least 7 different sites with tent campers at any given time during the 9 days we were there, some of them came for the weekend and then left and then another tent camper would come in to the same site and stay 3 days.
