Move your motor home!!!!

UGH!! Last year, when we had our house on the market, the home next to us sold first. We had already moved into our new house but lived nearby so we were constantly checking/maintaining the other house.

I remember the sinking feeling I had when I saw this honkin' monstrosity in the driveway of the house next to us on a day we had an Open House scheduled. It was an old bus that someone had painted drab brown and maroon. What an eyesore!

I sympathize with you. Regardless if it's a top notch motor home or a Partridge family reject, these things can impact the sale of your house.

In our case, it was only there for a few days. I wish you the best of luck in selling your house.

Do the parents live in the moter home all summer while visiting, or is it just parked there? What a pain to have that thing your driveway. Where are the rest of their cars during all of this?

As far as I can tell, they don't live out of it. The other cars are all parked in the driveway (they have 3) because their garage is so full of junk and a boat, they cannot fit any cars in it.:sad2: So they have 3 cars and a motor home in their driveway.

Thanks!

Yeah it is not what I wanted to deal with but I guess there is nothing I can do. If it were me looking at a house and I saw that would be my neighbor, I would think twice.

Kristine

Well, here we call them trailers or motor homes. They are one in the same. So to be clear, it is a very large motor home. I would say pretty close to the size of a tour bus.

Kristine

Just as someone posted above. If the rules are not enforced then in reality you have no rules. I do empathize with you but I don't think you have any options at this point. Many developments that have these rules are HOA's that have dues and they enforce the rules and regulations by putting leins on someone's house. That is part of the reason that they have dues.

I am sorry

A Moter Home is not a trailer, if the "rules" say no trailers then that does not exclude a moter home, which is a self contained moterized vehicle.

Also, agree with the second point quoted, since nothing has been done in the past, then tacit approval has been given for this behaviour to occure, even if you took them to court you would lose since you made no effort to stop it when it happened the first time.

I am sorry it is a pain for you, but the "rules" are no longer worth the paper they are writen on.

How would you like to trade? Our neighbor a few houses down has his white-trash race car and trailer in his driveway. Its a real beauty:sad2:

When I see these neighbor posts, the only thing I can think of is the saying about those in glass houses should not throw stones.

See I am sure everyone else is perfect about putting away a shovel, cleaning all their clippings, repairing broken fences and the rest....

Oh, we're pretty much the Clampets in my neighborhood.

But if I knew that one of my neighbors was attempting to sell his or her house, I would do my best to ensure that my house did nothing to hinder the sale.

No, I am not a perfect neighbor. But I try to respect my neighbors as much as I can and I would never let my driveway look like the local KOA. Nor would I leave a shovel in my yard for months at a time or my tree outside until July. That is just hillbilly behavior (IMO) and I did not move into this neighborhood to look at that kind of crap everyday. I moved out of that kind of neighborhood and moved into my current one because it was a more upscale one. I expected the people to behave as such.

Are these rules made up by the neighbors based on what they do/don't want to see? If so, there really isn't anything you can do about it as far as enforcing rules.

No, they are rules (a covenant?) that were made by the developer and we all had to sign them and we all got a copy of them. Maybe I will contact the developer and see what they say.

Why though? You said there is no way to enforce "rules". I know you are moving so at least you have your answer (which is great!).

I guess I struggle to understand why so many people spend so much time worrying about what their neighbors are up to. The have that much time on their hands that they can spend all their time posting vents, taking pictures, writing letters etc etc (note, I did not say you did all this). Just more of what you see as a common issue with the neighbor vents here.

The problem that you might have is like a PP said. If it is a self contained motorhome, that is licensed by a state agency, they they are only "guilty" of parking a vehicle in their driveway.

You might have some problems getting that enforced, assuming that you get a homeowners association going.

If it was parked on the street, a lot of cities are going the route of making parking laws that only allow a 24 hour to 48 hour paring in a residential area for "RV's".

The problem is that its on their property. Now if it extended PAST the sidewalk, blocking the use of it, then you might have a complaint.

We have a neighbor across the street who has a beautiful, large motor home. They have it on our street for the few days before they leave and a few days when they get back from a trip. If they kept it parked out there all the time, I would hate it! But since I know it's only there for a few days at a time, we put up with it.

But, yeah, in some neighborhoods, a big motor home parked all the time in a driveway would be an eyesore. My son & FDIL bought a home in a neighborhood where several homes have their recreational vehicle parked in their driveways, and it doesn't appear to bother people.

A motor home has a motor and can move on it's own.

A trailer is something that has no motor and has to be attached to a vehicle to move.

If the "agreement" states trailers, technically, there is not one thing you can do. Of course, if there is no way to enforce those "rules", then you really have no rules and no course of action.

Because it is directly across the street from me and if you look out my front window, all you see is that motor home.

Kristine

So? It's on their property. If you have no way to enforce any rules, it's not falling apart, not a rust bucket and has current plates, then there's nothing you can do except live with it.

In our town, there are town zoning regulations prohibiting a motor home to be on a piece of property for more than a certain # of days...I want to say it's 2 weeks.

My BIL's DF used to have a huge motor home, about the size of a tour bus, and when he came to visit them and it was parked in their yard, one of their neighbors always made sure to call the Zoning office and have someone come out and tell them the rules.

And then the Zoning office watched to make sure the rules were followed.

I don't get that. How can a town prohibit you from having a motorhome?

If it's something that you use for your vacations, then where would you put it when you're not on vacation? You're supposed to sell it and buy a new one everytime you go on vacation? Or junk it outside of town?

Who made the rules if there is no HOA? How frustrating! Someone might not think anything of it the first time they look at your house, but in this market, people are coming back 2-3 times, and they will definitely notice if it never moves.

Our house is on the market too- I feel your pain. Good luck! :)

A lot of those motorhomes cost as more than a house! Maybe it will bring your property value up!!

LOL, JK...I'm sorry you have to look at that, I wouldn't want to see it either. In our community, we are not even allowed to have a garden trailer..we got caught with one (out of sight, they had to come up our driveway to see it!) and had to move it. Travel trailers, motor homes, trucks, vans, or cars with writing (business logos) on them.. all of them are banned!!

Just goes to show you money can't buy class.

Things could always be worse, the neighbors in your upscale neighborhood could be drug addicts cooking meth in their basement. Or pedophiles with money.

The motor home is just a temp problem that will be gone soon. Your house will sell. I wouldn't worry that much about it but that's just me.
