Move to San Antonio or Phoenix

If you could choose between a company transfer of these two locations, which would you prefer? Opinions on why appreciated as well.

We are familiar with San Antonio, Texas already and have family there but curious on location opinions. If I asked on Facebook I would have all relatives say San Antonio.

I have never been to Phoenix, Arizona but my coworkers speak as if they enjoyed living there.

We have lived in Tampa, Florida for the last 15 years.

My in-laws made the move to Phoenix 23 years ago from MD and have never regretted the decision. My MIL loves that she no longer has to deal with snow or the cold. We have been out there to visit at all times of the year including this past summer in July when it was a 120 degrees outside which meant lots of pool time. Please don't let people fool you when they say it is "only dry heat". 120 degrees is brazing with or without humidity. Phoenix saw a drastic decline in the price of housing at one point but it looks as though it is on the rebound now. There is a lot to do and you can easily drive to CA to get to the ocean, fly to Vegas or drive, head north to Flagstaff if you have a desire to see snow in the winter. Sales tax is high (compared to MD). I don't know if you have children but ASU and UA have fantastic college programs. We are looking to move in about 6 years and might consider it if we weren't looking for an oceanview without having to make the ddrive.

Any chance you visit Phoenix for an extended weekend or something to get a lay of the land before you have to decide? That's what I would try to do.

Do you have kids? If you have kids and the family is decent/good intentions etc., even if you don't care about living by family, I'd still say San Antonio and be close to family. We're military and have been for all 16 years of my oldest sons life and I can't tell you how often I wish we lived near family, not just for me, but for my kids also. If you could have the same basic life in either, I'd 100% choose the one with family, assuming they're not toxic, ill-willed type ppl.

We live a couple hours from San Antonio and have family there as well. It gets hot in the summer, but rarely over 100 like Phoenix. If you like to travel, it's about half way between FL and CA, but CA is definitely easier from Phoenix, so is Vegas and skiing. San Antonio is an easy 2 hour drive from the beach, and lots of lake cabins, river getaways, etc. nearby. They have quite a few good colleges in the area and some of the local school district's have good public schools K-12. Mid range between a major metropolis and small town, but a nice cross-section of industry, shopping, culture, and a couple decent theme parks!
