Also since we bought everything through Disney we don't have an individual receipt from Delta. I am getting very confused on our possible options.

You can call or e-mail Delta and request an e-mail receipt. I did this last month when I had an unrelated question. I got e-mail receipts within a few hours.

The biggest issue is probably gate leases. If RIC for example has "open" gates then it's pretty easy. Atlanta has NO open gates.... So somehow the airport has to void the DL leases....
That's a good point, I am sure there are different termination requirements at each airport, some may be 30 days notice or longer, and some may be as soon as the airline fails to fly. Another thing is that not all airports give airlines "exclusive" gates, they can give them "preferred" gates, which means the airline will always have use of the gate during a scheduled flight time, but if that airline does not have a flight using that gate at the time it can be used by another carrier.

As for getting an Air Carrier Agreement into place...that can be done rather quickly, I'd say in a day if you got the lawyers together so it can be reviewed as it is drafted. The time constraint would be moving equipment. Of course this is assuming that there is any extra equipment out there for the airlines to use to pick up the void. Most don't have any extra aircraft.

Exactly, even LCC, can't survive with high jet fuel costs and deeply discounted fares.
Yeah, didn't JetBlue just post a loss?

Yes. JetBlue is now operating in the red, just like almost every other airline.

To the OP, thanks for posting the link. I'm flying next weekend and I want to be prepared!

I could kick myself for not using up my FF miles before! I used half of them for my flight next week but I still have two more free flights worth of points

You might want to think about transferring them to a hotels frequent guest program. I'm not sure who has exchanges with Delta--Hilton? Marriott? Sheraton? Either way...

ok so let me get this all straight.
If delta goes on strike,i cant do anything with my tickets till 24-48 hrs before i go on vacation?Ok so what is this $50.00 deal everyone is talking about other airlines charging? Is this the fee for standby? What are my chances of getting all 4 persons on 1 flight i dont care if we sit together just want to get to Disney.I am trying to come up with a plan B but honestly it is stressing me big time as i have kids involved!I was going to rent a car & drop off in Orlando well they want to charge me $650 for that!!I cant drive it home because i am coming home by myself w/3 kids.My hubby is driving his motorcycle out to Florida then returning to Ok after week 1,me and my kids was staying for week 2 at disney and we are all flying.Does anyone have any suggestions as to what you all are doing about your vacations now?I really hate to book other tickets due to the price they are now,i am racking my brain here & dont know what to do or think at this point. It is very upsetting!!

If the union strikes against the airline, you'll need to wait until the airline changes or cancels the flight. Then, you'll have a choice between what alternative they offer you or a full refund. That is, of course, only if the airline is still in business.

The $50 doesn't have anything to do with the case when the union strikes against the airline. Rather, it has to do with the case where the airline ceases operations permanently. If that occurs, other airlines are compelled to offer you seats that are still available on their flights just prior to flight time. If they do still have empty seats at that time, they must offer them to folks holding tickets on the airline that has ceased operations, for $50 each way.

What are my chances of getting all 4 persons on 1 flight
It depends on how many displaced passengers are waiting for seats on that one flight. Just like the single-rider line works at WDW, the more people traveling together, the harder it will be to get everyone on the same flight, given how packed flights are already, a situation that would be exasperated by a major airline ceasing operations.

It is very upsetting!!:sad2:
It is, and I wish there were better options. What I can re-emphasize is that I believe it is very unlikey that the pilots will strike against the airline, and therefore very unlikely that the airline we cease operating.

thank you so much for that help.I wish i had as much faith as you have.LOL>
I am just nervous!!I watch the news daily and it looks worse every day so that is why im trying to decide a plan B.But i do thank you for clarifying things,as i have no clue as to how all this plays out or goes.Thanks. ;)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but would the gate leases not be part of the airline's assets? If that is the case breaking the leases would require the approval of the bankruptcy court, AND the secured creditors. I'd be quite surprised if that was a quick thing.

Those leases (especially the ones at ATL) are worth some serious money, even to airlines that don't want to use them; I don't think anyone is going to get them at firesale prices.

Well, there are some conditions on most of them...One you have to PAY them or they lapse. So while they are assets if DL doesn't pay the bill all bets are off.

I will say that when AA pulled out of Nashville getting them to give up the leases was a battle. (They weren't ever going to use them, but they were NOT going to let SW either if they could help it) They finally lost....

I think the courts will move fairly quickly on this if it ever happens...In ATL actually the volume of gates would probably keep the price down. No one else wants that many gates!!!!

But with the BK, actions against the debtor are stayed (taking the gates) even if they do'nt continue to make payment until the court approves any sale of assets. Generally the primary secured creditors would have a say in the matter as well, with the court acting in a mediator capacity between them.

It is possible that the leases require active use. That would allow the airport to break the leases and sell them to others sooner than later. It is rather unlikely that that is the case though.

When the bankruptcy judge threw out the USAir leases at PIT, the airport was able to sell the first 2 or 3 gates on the A concourse to Southwest.
