Mousesavers "BASH" DVC!!

I don't understand why anyone here needs to rationalize their financial situation to a message board. I truly don't understand why anyone would care if I had $300,000 in the bank or 3 cents.

I am glad you don't Divamom and wish more people could be more duckish and let more stuff roll off their backs. I agree with you that no one needs to rationalize decisions, etc, but I also think that others need to back off on the judging of others. 90% of the things that people find "hurtful" or "attacking" here would not be said to someone to their face in the real world and that bugs me most. There are people here that only come here to attack. I don't get it and I also try not to rise to the "bait" but I can see how others feel the need to rationalize sometimes.

Seems like better things in life to worry about.

Yes its great to be American, and you say its bad to insult, well, her post was insulting. I am done with my rants, on to happier things :cool1:

You are so right. And I see from your ticker that you do indeed have much more important things! Congratulations! And here's to many more happy memories with your new Disney Prince or Princess! :wizard:

Thank you! Which brings us back around to the point of this thread....at what point to I take the leap and add more points since we will be needed a 2 bedroom in a few more years  Or should I just rent...buy resale...laugh at myself loudly because this was one of the first things that crossed my mind when I saw the positive pregnancy test. :rotfl:

lllovell and Divamom,
I never listed any specific dollar amount that I had in the bank or anywhere else. I don't feel the need to "rationalize" my reasons for buying DVC to a message board. Rather I thought this was just a give and take sort of discussion based on Mousesaver saying it wasn't a good investment or whatever. Instead, I think the post Daitcher made should be questioned....not mine ? From the OP :
DVC membership generally is not worth considering unless you have the upfront cost in the bank (in other words, you don't have to borrow it) and you plan to vacation at Walt Disney World every year.
Sure there's better things in life to worry about......I was never worried about this to begin with. Just joining in on what I thought was a mere discussion ?
I simply was commenting on the statement made by Daitcher. I didn't find anything they said hurtful or attacking, btw. I simply found it curious and suprising that such a generalized statement could be made about people (who they know nothing about) who finance DVC. To me, it's the same as one buying an expensive new car. Sure we all need a vehicle .....but do so many people need such new and expensive ones ? No, they choose to. Same with homes......I know alot of people who buy huge homes when a small one would do just fine and save lots of money. People choose what's important in their lives and to some this means DVC to others it means getting a new car every 3 years. The reasons are vast and varied.

I didn't mean to seem like I was criticizing your post. I'm just saying that no one here needs to justify why they bought DVC and how much extra money they have. Frankly, and I've said this a dozen times before, the happiest DVC'ers are the ones that don't read message boards. They finance their DVC right through Disney, they go on vacation innocently thinking they can book any of the resorts at the 7 month window, they trade into II without guilt, they know nothing about point rental amounts, all they do is go on vacation every year. I envy them!!!!!!! LOL

I am with Divamom here Mia. Your post was there, but it wasn't yours that I was referring to. My comment about people rationalizing was a general one (more made to the person that came back and spelled out her spending habits after being questioned about them).

Sorry for any confussion. :flower3:

You didn't attack or post negatively. Sorry if you thought we were saying otherwise!

Hey, Thanks for that positive thinking! The old expression "Don't judge a book by its cover" can be applied here. Never judge a person by their post. I never said I financed my purchase, did I? You just assumed. You also have assumed that I have no retirement savings. You also assumed I will end up in the poor house. Just to set the record straight. My money, every paycheck, goes into multiple accounts: 401K, stock account, mutual fund account, college savings plan, money money account and a savings account for my DD. The bills are paid with the remaining and we then live "paycheck to paycheck" as I refuse to take money out of the other accounts unless it is an emergency. I make a 6 figure salary that is accompanied by a 5 figure annual bonus. My DH is a stay at home dad. My DD will be attending private school in the fall, tuition is already paid in full for next year in case you were worried.

As you can tell from this post, I am a saver and am sickened by the rack rates that keep increasing. However, as I lost colleagues in the collapse of the WTC I know how important it is to develop memories with your children. I have therefore bought into DVC so that I do not have to shell out over $2000 for a hotel that I consider inferior. Did I mention that I usually stay at the Four Seasons on other vacations. I do not tell you any of this information to rub it in. I have been blessed with many wonderful opportunities and am truly aware of that. However, when I am slammed by someone that wants to assume the worst of me without any knowledge I feel I must reply.

And as for someone that is living paycheck to paycheck, consider yourself lucky that you are not. If they want to purchase DVC that is their business, not mine or yours.

Thanks for the rip. Your post clearly stated that you couldn't afford to pay rack rates every year. This led me, and I'm sure others, to believe that money was tight for your family. Many people in this country finance everything. As long as they can make the monthly payments they think everything is fine. I assumed, incorrectly I guess, that you were on the verge on making this huge mistake. Enjoy DVC and all your future travels. We've never regretted our purchase for a second.

I don't know how you can make such a blanketed, generalized statement such as this. You don't know any of us and what our financial situations are ? Can't afford disney trips without buying into DVC ? We bought into DVC because #1) we knew we could afford it. We purchased what was comfortable for us, not necessarily the amount we actually wanted. We also put 50% down payment so our monthly payments would be less. We only have 1 major credit card and only 1 car loan payment. We're not overextended by any means #2)we travel with generally 5 or 6 people. Stuffing into 2 hotel rooms for a week or even more was just a pain. We weren't always getting connecting rooms either which didn't work well at all with kids. Dh and I would have to split up and sleep in different rooms some vacations. We really wanted/needed 2 bedroom vill accomodations. So I don't feel timeshares don't work at all ? We're able to stay in a 2 bedroom villa for 7 nights (at our offsite timeshare) every year for $550 in dues. Two rooms at the All Stars would cost us much more than that for the same amount of time. And with our villa we get washer/dryer, full kitchen, jacuzzi, full balcony. #3)we have mutual funds and 401K's for retirement.
I agree with Eeyoresthebest.........
I respect your opinion Daitcher, but I don't agree because there's just no way to know everyone's financial portfolio and starting judging based on facts you don't know ?

Thanks for the post. My post was directed at Eeyore'sthebest only. I certainly wasn't speculating about others on this board. The statement that she couldn't afford yearly trips to WDW so lets run out and buy into DVC struck me a little odd. Sorry if I ruffled any feathers here. The logic of not being able to afford vacations so lets buy into a Vacation Club is just so strange.

The whole POINT of a vacation club is to save money over time. For our typical DVC vacation we spend 6 nights at WL and 5 at BCV in a one bedroom unit. Before DVC we typically stayed in water view rooms.

JUST the standard rooms (as we used to stay in) would cost over $5400 this year at rack rate. Even if we COULD get a 25% discount, its still over $4000, then add on the 11.5% tax and WOW! No, I could NOT afford that every year. I'll budget my $1500 in dues thank you very much! ;)

With DVC we spent more up front. I've LOST more on my 401K in the last few years than I spent on DVC! I consider it money VERY well spent, and yes, invested. Invested in my family and our time together. The fact that I could sell right now and make a profit is gravy!

We get a WONDERFUL 1 bedroom unit instead of just a room. Full kitchen, washer/dryer, Jacuzzi tub - a REAL vacation where we can relax. We currently save almost $400 a year on AP's, free valet parking, have the option to pool hop, various tour and restaurant discounts, etc. etc... I no longer have to go crazy waiting for AP rates, I can cancel 30 days out, and rework my vacations any way I like without needing to pay a non-refundable fee or change fees (on DVC resorts at least!) to guarantee that 'best rate'.
