Did anyone see the Notes from the World on www.mouseplanet.com on Monday? Somebody wrote in saying the rent/trade board on the DISBOARDS was useless basically...I was shocked...I have always had the impression that the boards have a pretty decent track record and the letter sounded bogus to me....anybody else see this or have any thoughts?

Personally I found the rent trade board here VERY USEFUL!! I rented some points through it for a trip, and that trip pushed us over the edge and we joined.

I don't think it's fair to say "MousePlanet disses the DISBOARDS!"

A reader named Julie asked MousePlanet's Brian Bennett for advice regarding expiring DVC points that she and her husband cannot use. Brian pointed her to DISboards' DVC Rent/Trade Board, but Brian could not speak from personal experience.

In response, a reader named Glenn wrote in with his experience offering points on the Rent/Trade Board. Glenn had tried the board twice -- once to offer points for rental, and once to try to rent points for a Saturday night. I have no idea how Glenn worded his posts on the Rent/Trade board, or why he wasn't succesful, considering that he claims he only wanted $4 per point when he offering points. Glenn's advice, "If she does use the board, expect a lot of emails from people expecting something for free," is probably good advice. Yes, I'm sure that happens.

The letter sounded bogus to PKS44, but it sounds legitimate to me. I really don't think that MousePlanet is fabricating bogus letters to make DISboards look bad. Actually, MousePlanet suggested DISboards in the first place. That's respect, not disrespect.

LIkely a case of poor planning on his part. Too inflexible, too short notice or the like. I can't imagine one not getting $4 pp if that's all that was being asked. There has to be more to the story than written.

Also,

If this guy comes from nowhere with his 1st post on the board being to rent points at 4$... I would personaly be a little affraid to rent them !!

That is a shame that Glen had a problem renting his points, but I agree Mouseplanet was not dissing the DIS boards. Brian is a wonderful person, I have corresponded with him several times and he is one of the nicest, most mannerly people I have ever come across. Even when he has something negative to say he does so in a very diplomatic, fair way, a lesson many could learn from him, myself included.

Well, the "MousePlanet" disses comment was just an attention grabbing headline, I did explain that it was a letter written in to Mouseplanet that was "dissing" the DVC rent trade board...I never suggested that Mouseplanet fabricated the letter, I think the letter writer is not telling the whole story, as Dean says in his post...I guess Brian, who seems like a nice guy, was in no position to disagree with Glenn's assertions, but it would have been nice if someone had been able to offer a balanced view, rather than seemingly giving Glenn's letter a tacit stamp of authenticity to those who may not know better...I believe Doc has said that there has never been a complaint or serious renting problem on those boards....I have responded to rent/trade posts, and I have friends who have rented from them and watched how the points tend to go and his story did not jibe with anything I have ever witnessed on those boards. Lots of people offer to pay for points with the original poster often reposting a "sorry the points are all rented" very quickly after the original post...

Thank you for the explanation. I'm sorry that misrepresented what you wrote. (It's because I misunderstood what you wrote.)

You wrote, "the letter sounded bogus" -- and the definition of bogus is "Counterfeit or fake; not genuine: bogus money; bogus tasks." So I read your line as, "the letter sounded fake," meaning that it has been fabricated by someone at MousePlanet.

Now here's a suggestion: Some DIS participants who have had a good expereinces with the DISboards' DVC Rent/Trade Board should write to Brian Bennett. I'm sure he would share those opinions too. That way, Glenn's opinion won't be the only one that MousePlanet's readers see.
