Monday 3/12: Managed to arrive at Animal Kingdom at 8:00 shart. We saw Timon first thing, who DD loved. She was wearing a shirt with a ladybug on it, and he kept pointing to the ladybug and then his mouth, and rubbing his tummy. Rafiki was also there, but she was scared of him as well as an ape and a bear (Jungle book?). We also visited with Dale, and Mickey, but didn't wait in the loooooong line for Minnie. We went straight to the Safari ride (15-20min wait). We saw lots of animals, closeups of giraffes and lions. After that, we walked around the Tree of Life, looking at the carvings. These were really remarkable IMHO--very detailed and beautiful. We saw "It's Tough to be a Bug" (10min). This show is terrific--DD is still talking about the stink bug. Following that we went to the Festival of the Lion King (25min), which we all thought was great. Then we met Tigger, Pooh, & Eeyore at 100-acre wood trails. We decided to save Tarzan for another time and left, and ate lunch at McDonald's, which was showing "A Bug's Life" on its big-screen. Then we went to Epcot and got right on Spaceship Earth with no wait. Afterward we went to Universe of Energy (5min), got FP for Test Track, went to Living Seas and then it was time for our Ice Cream Social at the Garden Grill. We were seated promptly at 3:00 and served about 3:15. Mickey, Pluto, Chip, & Dale were all there. The ice cream was very good, and the character interaction was wonderful. All came around multiple times. Chip helped DD color and do the wordsearch on her placemat; Pluto sniffed her face and her ice cream, and played clapping games with her; Mickey fed her some ice cream and pulled up a chair and held her on his lap. Good quality time spent with DD-- the bite of ice cream Mickey fed her is the only bite she ate. She was too busy smiling from ear to ear and letting the characters kiss her head, and hug her, and rub her hair, etc. We did not feel rushed at all here. Afterward, we went to Journey into Imagination (5min)and "Honey I Shrunk the Audience"(5min). By now, DD's feet were hurting, so we rented a stroller at International Gateway and walked around World Showcase. We met Mary Poppins at Britain. We didn't go into the countries' attractions, but watched part of some of the outside shows and the living statues. We were going to see the American Adventure, but we missed it by 15 minutes and didn't want to wait for the next show. We used our Fast Passes for Test Track and ate supper at Pasta Piazza (chicken parmesean $7 and pasta with sauce $6). We got a great seat for Illuminations and then called it a day. Weather today was warm again. We were very tired, with aching backs & feet. We had planned to go to Islands of Adventure on Tuesday, but decided to skip it this trip and have a "down day."

Tuesday 3/13: Slept in until nearly 8:30! Drove to Cape Canaveral to tour the "free" part of Kennedy Space Center, which we discovered no longer exists. We opted not to pay $24.50 each to visit the center, since we had done it before, and left. The Space Shuttle Explorer was on display at the entrance. We saw 3 different alligators in the roadway canals nearby. We drove to Cocoa Beach. Since this was an unplanned trip, we had no swimsuits or towels with us, but were lucky we had a quilt in the van. The weather was warm, but the water was pretty cold, though people were swimming and surfing there. DD got to wade in the water, and soon waves had knocked her down and she was covered in wet sand, so we stripped her clothes off and let her run around in her panties. We were only there 30-40 minutes, when a thunderstorm suddenly rolled in. We were soaked before we made it to our vehicle. (same day tornado struck Daytona Beach). After stopping at a roadside fruit/veg. stand, and McDonald's for lunch (this is getting old), we headed back to our hotel for showers and a much-needed nap. Upon waking, we went to Pirate's Cove Mini-Golf ($35 for 4adults,1child, with coupon for $1 off each). It was very humid. After this we went to Joe's Crab Shack for supper. This is one of my favorite places to eat, as the atmosphere is casual and the food is reasonably priced and very tasty, and we don't have one near our home. DH had Fisherman's platter $11, I had steak & shrimp $12. It was all very good. We all shared with DD, who ate very little, but enjoyed herself nonetheless, especially when the waitstaff all danced to Mambo#5. While we were here, DH insisted the young man at the table was golfer, Sergio Garcia. He asked as we were leaving, and the young man denied it, but Dh is still insistent. The man did look like him, and he was wearing golf hat, and there was some golf thing going on nearby. After supper, we went to Wal-Mart to restock snacks/drinks and get some detergent so we could do laundry.

Thanks for the informative trip reports. I enjoyed reading them. Can you tell me about the Ice cream Social????? Do I need PS? What is the cost? I've never heard of it before and would love to do something like that on my next trip in Aug. Thanks again.

Hi. The ice cream social was a wonderful experience. It is held daily at the Garden Grill Restaurant (at the Land in Epcot). Seatings are at 3:00 and 3:30, I believe. You do need PS. The cost is $6.75 per person, adult/child. No characters are guaranteed anywhere, but Mickey, Chip, & Dale are scheduled. We had the added bonus that Pluto was there as well, and I have heard others who went and Minnie showed up. Each person gets a very large ice cream in a homemade waffle cone, set into a large, thick cookie. Ice cream is covered with candy-coated chocolate chips, and has some chocolate with gold Mickeys stamped on it, and plate is drizzled with chocolate sauce and sliced strawberries. The kids ice cream is upside down on a cookie, decorated to look like a clown. It is a good-size portion (I couldn't eat all of mine, but DH did). The character interaction really couldn't have been better-- it was just terrific! My daughter is 4 and really enjoyed herself. If you do a search on the restaurants board you may find out more information on it. Someone used to have some great pictures of the ice cream posted, but I haven't seen them in a while. I highly recommend this experience!! :D

Thanks for the quick response. I'm trying to get all the details set in my mind so I can make PS when the time is right for our Aug. trip. We will be celebrating my DD 9th birthday during our visit and I'm trying to plan all sorts of special things for her. Thanks again! :D

I think I might try the social as a surprise next time. We've never done a character meal (DH doesn't want to) but this way I'll get to see what its like without forking over big$$$. Sounds like your daughter is having a ball.
