I agree with others rule of thumb is $1 per person to leave each day or more of you choose. We have had them leave tip so it is smart to leave a little note so they know it is for them and not just change laying around.

I tip $2/day for myself and 2 kids - but add a dollar or two more if asking for something extra (e.g. towels, blankets, pillows). We are extremely neat - nothing left on the floor except shoes lined up near the door, table, nightstands, and bathroom counters kept clear, all used towels piled up on sink, etc.

We only have mousekeeping every third day - there is only 2 of us and we make our beds and keep the room clean because I can't stand clutter and general untidiness. When we do require Mousekeeping I leave $5 clearly marked for them.

I usually tip $5 per day and it's just me and my grandson. we are neat but these people really have what I call a "thankless" job....

Definitely agree.

If they were making big money,it may be different,but they are not.

VERY hard job and the $5.00 I leave isn't going to "break" me,but I know if I was working that job,a 5 dollar bill left for me would make all the difference.

We usually do $5 a day, and I try to remember to set aside a bunch of $5 for housekeeping and bell service.
I use the little pad of paper, write a thank you, and leave it by the shampoo tray.

We don't tip anything since housekeeping isn't a tipped position and we don't ask anything other than normal service from Housekeeping. The only tipped positions are valet parking, food and beverage servers and Bell Services.

Looks like we're in the minority here! There's a reason Disney doesn't consider this a tippable position.

I have read that the DVC Villas housekeepers are paid on salary, so no tipping required, but regular Disney rooms are different so tipping appreciated. Is that correct?

Wow... now I'm feeling cheap.
I typically leave $3/day for 2 or 3 of us...
Perhaps I'm behind the times since it seems most are at $5...

Nothing to do with way I leave the room.. which is generally beds made and everything neat n clean..
my habit, it's just the way we live at home... drives the dh crazy that I make the bed on vacation lol

I wouldn't worry about it! I'm from NYC, but my closest two friends live in the midwest, and they're always saying, "Girl, you tip everyone, and you tip well!" But who and how much I tip really is just standard for where I live.

Btw, I don't make the bed, but I do straighten it out, because if I don't, DD is sure to be crying that the bed swallowed her undies or some other silliness.

I did not leave any tips on my last trip. They also only "cleaned" my room twice during our 12 night stay, despite us NOT having our Do Not Disturb sign out (and no we are not DVC). The two times they did show up, they made the beds and put out new towels. They did not replenish the toilet paper (nearly empty) or shampoo (completely empty), nor did they empty the trash. We called a few times for extra toilet paper, towels, and shampoo, and only received it once. The other times we either grabbed some off of a random cart or took pool towels back to our room to shower. I'm hoping this trip will be better.

On a side note, is there a particular time you must be out of your room by each morning or else they won't come in to clean? We left for the parks every morning between 9-11 am. The 2 days they did show up, we left the room before 9. So do you have to be out of your room before 9 or they won't clean???

Next time call Housekeeping from your room and ask them to come back to clean it. Or at least leave you the supplies you need.

I tip $1 per person per day. Before our trip DD7 will decorate a bunch of envelopes with drawings and "thank you's" to mousekeeping. It's just a cute thing she likes to do and they seem to really like it, sometimes they'll leave little thank you notes for us.

Sorry for your terrible experience-I very much think it is the exception to the rule.

In over 300 nights at WDW,I have only been "forgotten" twice.

I just called Housekeeping and they were very responsive.

Sometimes items we don't have enough room for like FE gifts. Once I saw a mousekeeper using an item on her rounds. It was great to see!

I doubt it. I believe they are all hourly...and only those just starting out make minimum wage. I know there are a lot of housekeepers making more, an hour, than my 43 dd who works in a preschool/day care center.
I've had some less than stellar experiences with housekeeping. And some of the worst were at DVC. I was told my villa was finally ready, at 4:15, Kidani. A one bedroom unit. So, up we went. We found a sign on the door, saying the room was being serviced! And the door was closed, which is odd. So, dh knocked and then opened the door. There was the housekeeper, seated on the sofa, watching tv!! Broom on the floor, feet up on the coffee table. She jumped up, saying, and this is a direct quote that I will never, ever forget 'Oh, thanks so much for knocking. I was just killing time until my shift ends. Have a nice day' and off she scurried. Now...as if that weren't bad enough. There was a used paper coffee cup on the table between the wall and the sofa, there were used tissues on the master bedroom floor, and the toilet didn't flush (and hadn't been flushed recently). I stopped at the front desk, explained my issues, and got this response 'Well, I'll let the manager know. Is there anything else I can do for you?'. No one seemed very upset about it.

I now tip if I've received out of the ordinary service....not to ensure decent service. If I have received less than decent service, I'm saying something about it.

We also don't tip. It's not a tipped position so I don't feel the need to tip. And before anyone gets ugly, I'm the first to offer exceptional tips for exception service - I'm almost always tipping 20% + on the POST TAX amount of any bill we receive at a table service meal.

There is a time and a place for tips - I don't think this is one of them. The tipping culture in this country has really gotten out of control. I shouldn't be tipping people who work at a restaurant where I order at a counter, pick up my own food, get my own drink, and bus my own table, but there is regularly a tip jar placed out there for such establishments. In turn, I expect to pay an extra 20% at a restaurant where I know tipping is expected. Housekeeping is not an area where tips are needed/should be expected. If this makes me a bad guest, then so be it.

I would guess housekeeping is expected to clean at least 4 rooms an hour on average. 4 rooms at a $5/room tip ($20) + minimum wage ($7.25)= $27.25/hr. Not too shabby considering the going rate for in home child care for multiple children is half that where I live.

I tip $5/day at all hotels. I know it shouldn't be necessary but to be honest, I think it usually helps to ensure good service. I usually don't need anything above and beyond but if I do I leave a note with the tip and it's pretty much guaranteed.

Beyond that it also seems to be truly appreciated. I've had housekeepers thank me personally and it's almost embarrassing they can be so happy about an extra $5.

Exactly my thoughts exactly. Why can't we spread a little Disney cheer ourselves! I count myself lucky that I do not have to clean rooms for a living.

We left $3 per night the first time we went to wdw. It was us and just one child then.
On most recent trip we left $5 per day. There were 4 of us (two adults, one child, one infant) in our value room, we had an air mattress this time (which we stood up before leaving for the day, and we generally just took up more space
Two of the days, mousekeeping left a note saying thank you, which was very nice.
