I need some advice about mousekeeping. My DH and I are taking my 2 dd's (3 and 1) and my parents to VWL in 2 weeks for the first time as DVC members. I am not sure how to handle mousekeeping. We have always stayed in the WL hotel, with full mousekeeping everyday. I need opinions on how it is not having the room cleaned every day, and if I should pay to have the room cleaned a few times during the week. Since we are taking my parents with us, I want to make sure it is nice for them. Thanks!!

Most member prefers not having housekeeping daily. My advise would be to go a day or two without it, and if you feel you need full cleaning, order it then. Assuming, with that many people, you will be in a 2 bedroom unit, you can though your towels in the washer/dryer in your room.

My husband makes the bed and does dishes, so he still does this while renting a DVC studio. We thought it might be odd the first time we stayed, but actually like not having to worry about someone coming in. My daugther is staying at a DVC studio for the first time next week and didn't like the idea of someone not cleaning for her. I told her she was welcome to pay to get her room cleaned if she wanted--afterall she's getting her room for free from mom.

I think it really depends on how much you "live" in the villa. I know some people actually cook in the room :confused3 , while the only cooking we do is making a pot of coffee. So see how it goes. You could always add it later.

We wondered about this issue when we were newbies but now actually prefer not having someone coming in our room. We just put dishes in the dishwasher and :ssst: don't make the bed. We don't make any other messes, so no need to worry about vacuuming, etc.
Chuck's idea is great. Wait and see how it goes. You can always order cleaning if you decide you want it.

It sounds like you are staying in a 2 bedroom. It will feel so much like home, you will be glad not to have to worry about housekeeping coming in when it isn't convenient for you. We make our beds at home the minute we get out of them...We do the same on vacation. We hang up our towels after a shower so they will be ready for the next one...we do the same on vacation. We clean up our breakfast dishes and put them in the dishwasher at home... so we do that on vacation too. Really, the only time we NEED housekeeping is for trash and towel or the full cleaning when we are staying more than a week. If we need to have fresh towels inbetween, we just thrown them in the washer and dryer, like we do at home. I really prefer not to have someone poking around my "home" when I'm not there.

Well my wife would prefer not to have anyone in to clean. She does a great job on her own and likes her privacy. There is a washer and dryer and dishwasher. She makes the beds and besides that not much else needs attention.Don't worry it will be fine and your parents will love it.

We were concerned about this before buying DVC. We actually find that we like not having to be disturbed by mousekeeping. It always seemed that just as we wanted to change to go to the pool, mousekeeping was there. Not anymore! We never have to worry about being disturbed, or staying out of the room to let mousekeeping finish.

As far as the clean up is concerned, I just make the bed as we get up in the morning. We do cook breakfast in the room, but that's what the dishwasher is for. Just stick the dishes in there and run it while you're in the park. Unloading is no big deal - not that many dishes in there to begin with.

The towel thing is not a problem for us - just 2 of us, so there are plenty of towels. Haven't had DD in there with us yet, she may require an extra towel or two.

What we think is neat is the fact that you really do feel like you're home without the usual disturbances from mousekeeping - but no one has to dust or vacuum!
