Where do you leave the Mousekeeping envelopes and do they usually take the tips? I am staying at AoA right now and left a tip envelope out yesterday and the mousekeeper did not take it. Same thing happened to me on our last trip when we stayed at ASMu. I left a tip envelope out every day (that said on it FOR MOUSEKEEPING) and even moved it to different spots each day, and it never was touched by the mousekeeper. Has this happened to anyone else?

I have never had this issue - very strange!
I always leave the money out in the open (no envelope). Generally I leave it around (or on) the phone or sometimes I'll put it on a bed pillow.

The same thing happened to us in July 2011 at Coronado Springs. My DD had decorated the envelopes and labeled them Mousekeeping, but they never took them.

It is possible that you have a housekeeper who doesn't read English. Just leave the cash out somewhere obvious, like on the bed.

I usually leave my tip for mousekeeping by the bathroom sink and it's always been picked up.;)

They usually leave a card with their name on it. I put my tip under the card which is usually by the bathroom vanity.

Exactly what I do. The first few days of this trip, I left a little note that said "Thank You, Mousekeeping!" with it, but the last couple of days I just left the tip under her card and she took it.

Good point. I always just leave cash on a bed pillow. Anything left elsewhere could be construed as the guest personal property.

My kids just use the hotel stationery and write a quick thanks. We put the note and money on the bottom corner of a bed.

That happened to me once at a Disney resort. The tip was never picked up. I generally leave it next to the sink.

I always write "housekeeping - thanks!" on my envelopes and they have been taken. They may not understand what the made up word "mousekeeping" means.

Tried a couple of different places last stay at BC - finally chased her down in the room next to ours (right after she finished ours and did not take the tip left under her name on the counter above the sink), shook her hand, thanked her and discretely handed her the cash.

Makes me think that tipping mousekeeping is not common and therefore they are more afraid of being accused of stealing than accepting a thanks for a job well done (and putting in a good word for Stella, our mousekeeper club level BC - she was VERY good, delighted my wife with a new, more ornate and imaginative towel/washcloth figure every day).

From now on I'm going to do the same - find a way to meet the mousekeeper in the hall and thank them directly - verbally and with cash.

Here's the thing....Disney has made it perfectly clear that they do not feel that housekeeping, at WDW resorts, is considered to be a tipped position. Yes, many, many people disagree. And they tip accordingly.
BUT....many of us have run into housekeepers that will refuse a tip. They know, full well, what Disney tells it's guests (if asked!), and I think they can be somewhat nervous to take something that their 'boss' has said isn't appropriate.

Or, it could be that they don't speak English. You can always write 'gracias' on the envelope with the tip in it.

But I have had housekeepers who spoke perfect English tell me that they do NOT accept tips..thanks for the thought, but no thanks. I do mention such attitudes at the front desk. I think that Disney should hear about those employees that refuse tips even when offered!!! It may look good in their employment files!!

I left a tip on the dresser every day, and no one took it. Finally on day 5, we happened to come back to the room when she was in there, and she said they never pick up money that just appears to be lying around, in case a child left it there. Gave her 20 dollars right then. We got really good towel animals for the rest of our trip.

This is what I do- put the cash under or beside the card, along with a small note that just says Thanks. The one time I did make Mousekeeping envelopes, I also wrote 'thanks' on the front and left them beside their card.

In spanish you say/write "la propina".

I've been in the room while they work and they are moving fast. If they don't take your tip its limely because they don't want any doubt about whether it was a tip or misplaced money.

They make a decent wage compared to housekeepers in other hotels and they really don't want to risk losing it over a 5 dollar bill. That said, they work really hard for that $10/hr (starting wage), harder than any job I ever worked at. We count on tipping $20 a day when we plan our vacation.

I commented in another thread about 'why' but I always give the tip directly.
