Mousekeeping--Let's encourage WDW to bring it back!

Why is it that some posters think it's "funny" with the laughing emoji when someone is relating their unsatisfactory experiences with housekeeping?
It seems that when a poster states how unhappy they are with having trash and wet towels, etc around, and the difficulty getting help, they get the laugh emoji.
Just seems rude to me, that's all.
If you don't agree, then don't read it, IMO. And feel free to use the rude laugh emoji on this post, real classy:)
I totally agree! It's such a ridiculous thing to do: Imagine spending time in a community of folks who love and care for WDW--who help each other plan and problem solve and organize and even try to get positive changes made like the option of housekeeping-- and you just scroll through to mock them?? But hey, I guess it's the equivalent of the grumpy person walking around the park talking about how terrible everything is. Why bother?

I think the longest vacation I have taken was about 6 days. In those six days the floors were fine and we kept our clothes either in our luggage or in a drawer. Trash was always put in a bin or a bag. How filthy are y'all? Where you need a vaccume everyday and someone to come pick up your clutter?.

6 days with the same sheets? No big deal to me. We always shower before bed on vacation. And I was never a make the bed type person even at home.

Sure it's nice to come back to a clean room but just don't mess it up? I always see a maid as someone who deep cleans the toilet/shower/sink ,changes the bedding between guests and get me fresh towels every few days. It's up to me to be respectful and not destroy the place to make there job harder.

I hope they bring this back for folks who want it but can we all agree that maybe they want a better jobs where they don't have to pick up other people's trash?

I love it. You pay many hundreds of dollars per night for a hotel room. You pay the same you paid before with housekeeping but now you don't have it. And the response is "how filthy are y'all?"

Crazy times.
Guess we just think different. I always saw housekeeping as a extra bonus. Like I said I hope it comes back for folks who want it.

I'm also the type of person who will clean plates and organize them before the waitress comes to get then so she can just grab and go and only have to dump one plate.

Do you travel with small children? Little boys who may not "aim well?" Are you ever in a big hurry to get out of the room? Have you known kids who were just too exhausted at the end of the Disney park day to do anything but pass out in the bed? Maybe even before they get to the room in the stroller? This isn't a "one size fits all" situation. I am not a "filthy" person. My home is very clean because I take the time to do it. For a vacation I have spent thousands of dollars on, I want to spend my time enjoying the resorts and parks. Of course I pick up trash I see in my room floor. Of course I rinse out the sinks when I see they need it. Too old to get down on my titanium knees to clean the tubs-at home I have a cleaning wand. And I do make my bed every day at home! We will be spending 6 nights/7days in the parks with a four year old and eight year old whom we adore. But again, I am not going to be drill sargeant grandmother in our hotel room on vacation! This seems to be the majority opinion on here, just saying. And I do appreciate housekeeping! I have left written compliments for their supervisor and tip generously because they have been valuable to me. I certainly don't look down on anyone doing an honest days work-this is not their fault, its management's!

Yes I have traveled with children. But if they made a mess we cleaned it. Leaving pee on a seat for a stranger to clean just seems rude to me. Now if they dump there cheetos on the floor and walk over them and I have zero means to a vaccume I will do my best and be thankfull for the maid. But I will never say "maid will get it no big deal". Maids need to be payed way more than a cashier imo to make up for what they put up with.

I think it's an honest question. Do you trash your own home at a level that requires professional cleaning services EVERY DAY? I get the cost factor. If they removed a service they should lower the cost. I DO NOT GET people who are so messy their rooms need cleaning every single day. We typically do 7-8 night DVC stays without a single house cleaning and we just pick up after ourselves like we do at home. Of course those without washer and drier need fresh towels, and everyone needs the trash emptied, but outside of that. I guess I have a pet peeve about "Im on vacation just throw our crap everywhere the chamber maid will pick it up" attitudes.

You really have no idea how much anyone trashes their room. The degree to which one misses housekeeping has zero correlation with how clean they keep their home or their hotel room. It's about a service that's paid for that they enjoy actually receiving. It's not even so much about cleaning as it's about having the trash taken out and the towels replenished without needing to think about it, call someone, and wait for them (hopefully) to arrive. Because I'm on, you know, vacation.

I keep my home clean every day of the year. I do the dishes, I clean the toilets, I vacuum the carpets. I do it all. Vacation is the one time of the year when I come in and someone else has done it for me.

We only stay DVC. For cash rooms do they not empty the trash every day even without a cleaning during the "security check"? And of course you can request linens at any time. So you can basically have both of these things without the traditional return of Mousekeeping. Which Im not opposed to at all. I just think daily housekeeping in general may die off across the board at hotels and resorts due to the pandemic.

I am a small businesses owner struggling in Florida. I have 12 open positions at an average of $20@hour. The average housekeeper at Disney starts at about $10.00 an hour. Currently in the state of Florida unemployment benefits are $275 @ week plus an additional $300@ week from the federal government. Even with 40 hours a week why would anyone take the job?
Because as a mouse keeper on avg I can do 2-3 rooms an hour if I’m hauling butt. Let’s say just one of the 3 rooms leaves me $10, then someone in the hallway stops and asks for towels and hands me couple dollars repeat.

that’s $22 an hr easily. With only $10 of it being taxable

But that's relying on tips. Most people will want a for sure paycheck.

I can see how the perspective of someone staying DVC would be different from someone getting a room the traditional way. But in essence, you haven't been paying for housekeeping all along. That's been the deal. Those paying full freight have paid for the service. And continue to now. But now they don't get the service. To criticize those not happy with losing a service they've been paying for just strikes me the wrong way.

I agree though. It will probably end with the pandemic.

Depends are they married to a person that has a higher income. Why would they want to declare the extra money in taxes.

trust me when I say most tipping jobs don’t want to go to the flat $15 wage thing.

Typically I have my own room so it's just me but without daily housekeeping it doesn't give off the vibe of being on vacation and at a nice resort. I hardly create a mess but it's nice to come back to a room where the bed is made, the trash removed (from the trash can) and the bathroom given a quick freshen up with restocked towels and everything in it's place. It's part of the "welcome back" when you return from the parks. I would feel this way at any resort though, not just Disney. At $500 plus a night, no daily housekeeping is quite lame. Sure, I know Disney deluxe resorts aren't truly luxury experiences but i'm not asking for turn-down service (although I think GF used that have that) but this will be hard to overlook once we can no longer say it's because of the pandemic.

I haven't been away since the pandemic so i'm not sure what other resorts are doing but I am now scheduled to return to Disney in 2022.

I totally agree with this! It's not that our rooms get filthy dirty (but my youngest DD is 17 now and definitely won't be playing on the floor like small children often do), but coming back from a sweltering hot park to a clean smelling room with freshly made beds just adds to the vacation! I don't do any of those things daily at home and it isn't necessary, but on vacation, it's really nice to feel pampered lol! Next weekend will be our first trip back since the week before the shutdown, and I'm tiptoeing back in by a shorter Disney trip split with a stay at Ritz Carlton to enjoy their lazy river. It will be interesting to compare the GF to the Ritz since Ritz still says twice a day maid service lol! Not sure if the Ritz will have turndown or not, but it will definitely be missed at the GF! Again, not a necessary luxury but used to be included and was such a nice little extra special something!

This is how we feel. I travel with my own bed sheets anyway and don't want them touching the bed. I also hate how they tuck it in on all sides. What little garbage we make, we just take with us out if the room and call for fresh towels every few days. I think it's more of an "I want to be pampered" mindset for some, which is fine. Just like it's fine for people to not want anyone in their room. But I do wonder how some get their rooms so dirty that they need cleaning on a daily basis.
