Just thought I would ask for opinions.

We are less than a week till we leave and I was contemplating making special envelopes for housekeeping. Last year (our first time staying on property) I decorated envelopes to leave tips in. In my opinion they were very cute. Disney scrapbooking paper, some stamped adornments, some ribbon...etc. The housekeeping never gave any indication it was appreciated. (we did not even receive a single towel animal in the week stay)

I am wondering if they get their fill of disney since they work there and would prefer just a simple thank-you rather than all the disney fluff. I just hate to go to the trouble if it is more of a nuisance for them. I will leave a tip regardless...but..again..plain envie or decorated?

TIA

You will probably get more responses on this thread if it is on the Resorts board.

In my opinion, the housekeepers probably don't care very much about the envelopes because 1. many many people provide decorated envelopes and 2. they really just want to have the cash. It's just my opinion, but if I were a housekeeper the envelopes would get thrown immediately away and I would keep the money in my wallet or whatever. I can't imagine carrying around ten (more?) envelopes in a day for any reason. I am sure most people appreciate that someone else took some effort to brighten my day. But, in the end, I see it as akin to mailing in my electric bill in a decorated envelope. I am sure those folks don't care if I've put stamps of lightning bolts all over it.

I think you're right about them having their fill of Disney. I'm sure most housekeepers are working there because it is fairly well paid unskilled labor. I doubt that most of them are excited about seeing another sticker of Tink or Mickey. My husband manages a Toys R Us, and believe me he'd care less if a thank you from a guest (which he sometimes gets, not tips...but a small note for good service) comes in an enevelope with a giraffe on it.

All that said, we have done decorated envelopes in the past, but mostly because it's been fun for US and not because I expected any results from it (towel animals, etc.). When DD10 was younger it was also a way to begin building some excitment for the trip as she would plan and decorate envenlopes. My vision, though, was that once it was opened it'd be immediately tossed in the trash.

I think that Mousekeeping appreciates the thoughfulness that goes into a nicer one.
Just remember to label it so they will take it.
If it's not labeled for them to take, they won't.

I assume they get thrown away immediately. I just didn't know if it was looked at as more of a "omg, another disney envelope" or a "gee that was sweet".

I don't expect anything extra for doing the envelopes. I just wondered if perhaps it may have been an irritation enough last year that they chose not to do towel animals.

So all this being said, maybe it really isn't necessary for me to go to the trouble. Really, that is probably best for me since I am short on time before we leave. I will make sure to at least label the envelope so they know the tip is for them.

Thanks for some helpful feedback...

If I were mousekeeping, I would personally get a kick out of the decorated envelopes and really appreciate that someone took the time to make something special for "me"!! How awesome is that? Maybe they do get "disney burnout", but for just that one mousekeeper that can appreciate the gesture.....that would be worth it.

As far as the towel animals, I had read on a previous post that someone had a mousekeeper that didn't know how to make them, finally, on their last day, the mousekeeper found someone else to make her one to leave in their room. Something like that. So I wouldn't take it personally, I think the decorated envelopes are wonderful. You may just make someones day!!

We put Disney characters on them with the day's date to keep them in order. however, they only get them if they do a good job on the room. They need to earn it!:surfweb:
