Hi guys,

still in planning mode! We're travelling Oct half term as a party of 16 as DD and her tap troupe are dancing in DLP. My aunt is coming with us and has Chronic Airways Disease, which is similar to asthma in that she can't walk very far without suffering breathing difiiculties. As we all know a visit to Disney means lots of footwork, I was wondering if its possible to hire motorised wheelchairs either in the parks, or for use also around the village and hotel - we're staying at the Newport.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Lynn, click here then on Special Requirements for info. Not sure if they do motorised wheelchairs or whether they are talking about push ones. It might be best to send them an email. :)

This page has a bit more information than the one already posted. (I think it might be a direct link to the information page that you end up on with the other link).
Click on this link , then scroll all the way to the bottom of the page and click on the link that says "Important Advice and Restrictions." That link opens a page of information about accessing and boarding rides/attractions. (It looks like the text from the DLP Guidebook for Guests with Disabilities.)
I don't see any icon or information about ECVs (in the US, the name for the motorized vehicles for people with disabilities - they are a bit different than "power" or "motorized" wheelchairs). In the US parks, there are some different icons - the wheelchair symbol means it is accessible to both wheelchairs and ECVs; an icon of a person standing up from the ECV and getting into a wheelchair means it is wheelchair accessible, but not ECV accessible. It looks to me like all they rent at the parks are wheelchairs that you push, but an email to them would tell for sure.

Thanks guys,

Ive sent for the disabilities leaflet so I'll see what it says. My Aunt can walk but not far, and I know she'll want to do as much independantly as possible, but if we had a chair it would take the worry away for her - she starts to panic about getting back to her room if she has a breathing attack. I know she wouldn't like a wheelchair for one of us to push, she'd feel she was being a nuisance. I'd really like her to see as much of the parks as possible without worry.

I've seen the chairs in WDW where quite a lot of people drive themselves around but are able to walk onto rides, and this is what I had in mind.

Thanks again, will post what I find out.

Will be keen to see what you find out as I'm sure others will be interested :)

Sue, thank you for posting that link. :goodvibes I have put it in our Useful Info thread, I am sure it will be very helpful.

you're welcome. glad I could help.
I think you had already found an indirect link to it. I just posted a more direct one.

Hi guys,

Got the brochure and disabilites leaflet, it only mentions push wheelchairs which can be hired at your hotel or in the parks. I think I'll email them for further info on where we can hire a motorised one. I know my aunt won't get one if she's to rely on one of us to push her around.

Thanks again,

Lynn
