Motion Sickness?

Sounds like I won't be doing the Mission Space unless I take something. I get motion sick with spinning and darting. Did the Star Wars ride one time and felt pretty bad for several hours. The roller costers won't bother me. How about the Hang Glidding ride? Any thoughts on motion sickness for this one?

Absolutely....laugh away! I love telling that one to my military friends. It's the least I can do for my country! Yep, it was right there at the fancy restaurant! Tossed my cookies! OK, enough of that! :rotfl2:

What about Soarin' ???

A special tip for those of you with motion sickness from my pilot husband: be sure to keep your head still to keep nausea symptoms at bay. For instance, the only way I survived MS without having Gooofy-Blade's result was to hold my head really still through the whole ride. I felt ill when I got off but it eased after 30 mins to an hour. I also did not eat before AND I don't have to ride it again, Yea :teeth:

Soarin' is much tamer than any of the rides we've been discussing, I would give it a 3 maybe. If you feel it bothering you to look around at the film, just hold your head still and let your eyes move instead. I plan to ride Soarin' every time we visit :sunny:

Oh, in October, I rode Space Mtn and loved it. When we visited earlier this month, it was rough, jerky and painful. It went from a 3 to a 6 or 7 between those two trips. I am worried about riding again as it def made me feel sick :confused3

HTH

Interesting to hear about Soaring. Since I do not do well at movie rides ( and even O'Canada make me sick.) I am not sure if I should do soaring.

BTW- I laughed out loud at tossing it in France. :rotfl2:

Ditto with the Space Mnt experience. Previous trips it was not a problem and the next trip it was so jerky and rough. I was really caught off guard...I didn't feel well for a short amount of time. I wonder what could make the ride experiences seem so different?

Overall, I did fairly well with Soarin. We rode it three times (not in a row) we liked it so much (California). One time DH and I both felt a little light headed after. I'm not sure if it was the ride or maybe that we were getting hungry. Sometimes it works well to have something in your stomach (not a huge meal)...kind of like a nausea during pregnancy. I like the tip to keep you head very still. Bonine couldn't hurt unless it makes you sleepy. I've seen others post a whole list of motion sicknees meds (some prescription). It really is a not to missed...but one would hate to ruin thier whole day (ie mission space).

I get motion sickness easily.

Body Wars - I did it once and will NEVER do it again. Almost lost it.

Test Track - love it. No problem.

Soarin - no motion sickness whatsoever - and that was after a large meal at Le Cellier.

Space Mountain - no problem but what is with all the herky jerky on that. Just went on it 2 weeks ago and I don't remember the ride being so rough. My husband thinks he won't ride it anymore. Don't ride it if you have a bad back.

Dinosaur - no motion sickness just a jerky ride. It's too jerky , I almost don't even enjoy it.

My pharmacist recommends Bonine. You only need to take one a day and there is no drowsiness, supposedly.

The site Allearsnet has a motion sickness rating for all attractions. Hope this helps!

I get motion sickness also. I take a Bonine every morning before heading out to the parks. If not, I would get sick on the monorail. I do not like coaster rides so I can't comment on them.

The absolute worst ride I experienced at Disney was Body Wars. Something was out of sync on this thing and I had to be carried off of it. Usually I can close my eyes if I start feeling bad and let my body take the motion if I don't see what is going on. Not on this one.

I rode Soarin' over Califoria one time at CA, so have not experienced Epcot's, but I did not feel ill. It was AWESOME! There was a place where it looks like you are skimming over the water and I did have to close my eyes during that part. I do get sick at the IMAX type of films (someone mentioned the Canada film). I will not try MS. I'd like to, but don't want to be sick. Star Tours is not as bad as Body Wars, but it can make me feel slightly nausiated. The problem is that the film and the ride vehicle must be in total sync. Since multiple ride vehicles are used on these rides, it is possible that some vehicles could be out of sync, but others are not. You could ride one time and be fine, another time and be "visiting France." To me these rides are a crap shoot.

I know Disney is pretty tame but I'm a big chicken.
I can do everything execpt the following:
Mission space, star tours , body wars
Don't laugh... I'm scared to ride Tower of terror. I hate the "getting dropped" feeling. I have sttod in line each time with my family and each time I have chickened out. I have vowed that 2006 will be the year I grow a backbone and ride TOT. Now...soarin'.. I am going to try. I have decided that I will go for the last row as it stays the lowest to the ground. My family is all about the front row to be way up high.
What do you guys think about TOT?

Janet Paddock

It really depends on the number of times you get dropped :earseek: The last time I went on it was in October and we were dropped 7 times :bitelip:

I have to admit I was a little sick, maybe give it a 4, sometimes a 5

If you take Bonine in the morning, can you drink a couple of beers in the afternoon/evening?

I believe so. At least, that has been my experience. I always take one Bonine each AM, and I usually have 1-2 glasses of wine with my dinner with no problems at all. And If I'm onboard a cruise ship, I also will usually have 1-2 froo-froo or "umbrella drinks" during the afternoon or evening or a glass or two of champagne. Each person may be different, and it is certainly adviseable to watch/monitor any alcohol intake if also taking medication, but my experience with Bonine has been problem-free in that area.

we hadn't been to wdw for about 6 yrs and went in 04 and i thought space mt was way more rough than before...i thought i was just getting old( and scared since as i posted before, my restraint bar unlocked mid ride) nice to know i'm not totally crazy..

Ms: husband was pretty sick after MS and i had a messed up back( had to go back to the room and rest the next day cause i couldn't walk but i have back problems) after RNR because i did not keep my head back at take off...if you have back problems keep your head back against the head rest on RNR...did that a few days later( ok I am a total fool for trying it again i know) and it was fine

I swear by Less Drowsy Dramamine. I take it at night before going to bed. One dose works for 24 hours, so by taking it before bed (and I start the night before going to WDW) You do not feel any affects of drowsiness. I also drink plenty and have absolutely no side affects....except no hangover.

It is a great hangover remedy too!

I am very sensitive to all kinds of motion, and this really works for me.

i think it is less scarey than most high amusement park rides since you see the park for asecond thorugh a door that opens but then drop in an enclosed area...there is a ride called Demon drop by us where you drop in a similar way but outside which was a one time ride for me...i don't mind the stomach in throat kind of feeling( in fact in a sick twisted way i think it's fun :confused3 ) but hate seeing the ground rush up at you which you don't see at TOT.
