motion sickness

I've always been a chicken when it comes to rides due to my motion sickness. I can ride collar coasters so I'm excited to try EVEREST, TT, 7DMT, and RRC. I have never done ToT, Soarin, or Dinosaur but I think I may want to. Any thoughts? Should I try medication prior too?? I don't want to ruin my day or afternoon feeling sick, but I'd hate to hear that these rides are not that bad. Has anyone else had these experiences or stay away from certain rides?

None of the rides you mention cause motion sickness for me, but the Tea Cups ( of course), Star Tours, and Mission Space orange turn me into a green, whimpering mess. I use Bonine (I take it at night). I started using it when we cruise and it worked without making me drowsy. Try it at home to see how it affects you.

I'm also pretty prone to motion sickness and have no problems on the rides you mentioned - ToT, maybe a little tiny bit, but the ride/drop portion is short enough that it's never been a big issue.

I second the PP's "avoid" list: I skipped Star Tours altogether this time (February) after a bad time in May 2015 and I wanted to die the only time I ever rode MS. It was horrific.

I am not prone to motion sickness and I barely make it through star tours. Definitely skip.

I am prone to motion sickness: the only rides I skip are the spinning ones like Tea Cups, Astro Orbiter, and Primeval Whirl.
ETA: I also can't do rides like Star Tours. So I send my husband with the kids while I enjoy some quiet time.

The old Body wars ride at epcot really had that motion sickness thing pretty strong. I rode it 3 or 4 times but one of the times, It was very bad and many others had similar experiences. The Harry Potter ride at Islands can also be a problem as can Mission Space.
Of the Disney Rides you mention, I would think the Tower of terror might be the hardest one there. I have had zero problems with Soarin' or Dinosaur or Star Tours.

I can't do simulators. The perceived motion with the eyes clashes with my inner ear, that registers that I'm not really moving like what I'm seeing. Body Wars made me so sick that I had to go out to my car and lie down for a while until I recovered. I have a hard time with thrill rides that have some portions in the dark where I can't see where I'm going. I'm becoming a puss, as I have a hard time with Space Mountain and Expedition Everest. I didn't even like the Dino Ride at AK. The part on Everest that gave me trouble was going backwards in the dark, and some of the turns in the dark. I do great with Big Thunder Mountain, Matterhorn Bobsleds and Test Track. I did OK with the big coasters at Six Flags Magic Mountain and those at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay.

I have terrible motion sickness. DH convinced me that Star Tours wouldn't bother me so I tried it. NEVER AGAIN! I was instantly sick and just prayed for it to be over. The upside is that he felt so guilty and worried about me so much during the ride that he didn't enjoy it either. LOL

I've ridden TOT, Soarin and Dinosaur with no issues whatsoever. No way I'm trying MS!

I am prone to motion sickness too. Drops do not make me sick at all, though. Tower of Terror is fine, Splash is fine, and Soarin' does not even register on my queasy scale. One ride on Star Tours is about a half a ride too many so I skip (fortunately daughter is old enough now that I can just walk through the pass-thru on our girls' trips). Mission Space when there was only what is now orange? Don't do it. Sickest I have ever felt in my life. Took two hours of head down on table at Sunshine Seasons to continue walking and a day to feel normal again.

Everest makes me sick on the backwards part and the strong, fast turn right after the big drop, but I live for that drop so I do it!

No Tea Cups. Dinosaur is fine-ish. One important thing for me is to space any of these (except Soarin or Splash) a good two+ hours after a meal.

You can also take Bonine (much better than Dramamine for me) but you must start it a day before you're riding and continue daily. It's the only way I survived a cruise on the Fantasy but most times at the park I just go without meds and pace myself accordingly.

Good luck!

I can do most simulators most of the time but occasionally one will get me. The WORST that I ever had was also Body wars but I wasn't as bad as you. Not sure why I rode it a few times on previous trips but the last time was so much worse for me. But many of the simulators never give me any problems at all so I'll try them at least once. Universal FL seems to have many simulators now but the only that gets me a little is the harry potter one at islands.

p.s. Even Mission Space Green (which I tried once) made me ill, though not at death's door like orange.

Joannamet-- the feeling that made me queasy in Mission Space Green felt exactly the same as when Darth Vader "holds" you in Star Tours. Barf city. Good call avoiding Mission Space! It can be hard to tell sometimes because similar warnings are on rides that don't make me sick at all!

Thanks everyone!!! So no SW or Mission space, I don't think either will be major loses. Has anyone started to have an issue on Soarin? Other than close your eyes is there another strategies just in case???

Another vote for Mission Space. Puke worthy!!

Test Track, Soarin', and 7D are fun and I have no issues. ToT is a no go for me. Did a similar ride years ago and was puking in a garbage can afterward. No way.

I can't ride Tea Cups or the full Mission Space. I like Everest but once it goes in reverse I feel slightly ill for about a half an hour. I have not tried Dramamine though.

My DH has motion sickness and none of those rides you mentioned cause a problem for him.

The only ride at Disney that he refuses to do is the Teacups. He loves Star Tours, so he will ride that at least once, but that gives him some problems too.

I don't know about WDW Soarin but in Disneyland, I felt "quick" dizzy but was okay for rest of the ride. I have ridden Star Wars over 50 times in Disneyland and never got sick.

I asked about Mission Space on another thread and was warned against "orange" side so I'm going to try out "green" side. Since this is my first trip and who knows when I'll be back at WDW so I am going to brave it out. BUT I am prepared with Bonine and also got patch from my Doctor the other day.

Out of the rides you mentioned, I get nauseous from Everest, RRC, and a tiny bit on Soarin. On Everest I think what does it is when it goes backwards. For RRC I get sick when it turns...it doesnt go upside down, but it twists. That gets to me.

With soarin, i suffer from simulation sickness so any motion simulator ride gets me a bit nauseous. Soarin isnt too bad but it still makes me a bit sick.

RRC & Everest are the worst for me. Ive only been on dinosaur once, i cant remember if ive felt sick from that one?

Mission Space....i've only ever done green, and it always makes me nauseous!

Yes! That one makes me nauseous as well!
